Staples Mill location is convenient so I stopped in to request alterations. Robinette , the seamstress stated that they no longer provide zipper replacement. I found it strange as a zipper replacement is an alteration a seamstress is capable of making. Several reviews indicate bias towards POC (Blacks). Poor state of affairs in 2025 that service continues to be denied based on race. Clearly, a coaching and development session is in order. DEI is essential! read more

I've had several times that I used fluff & fold services. The first time I brought a huge bag into the Staples Mill store. It was $35. I began using delivery service. First time less clothes than the first, same price. Last time even less $41. Yesterday my credit card was charged over $108.00, I haven't sent anything in. I got home and there is dry cleaning hanging all around my porch. I'd been calling several of their numbers about the charge all day and no answer, even corporate. I texted the route manager, no response. They finally sent me an email that they missed my call and had scanned my bag in error. I didn't send one in. They only partially refunded me. read more

Love this company! They are courteous, convenient, careful, and competitively priced. We've had down comforters laundered, a wedding dress and handmade veil cleaned and boxed for preservation, and more routine dry cleaning of blazers, coats, etc. When a stain couldn't be fully removed, they let us know and even marked the spot so we could find it and see for ourselves. I've been coming to Puritan Cleaners for well over two years. Recently, their service has gotten ridiculous and prices out of control. To have a men's button up dry cleaned is $3.30!?!? The THIRD price increase they have had in less than a year. To dry clean a men's suit... over $17! Outrageous for dry cleaning. For those prices you do NOT get the service you would expect. Oh well... guess I'm going to start looking for a new dry cleaners now because Puritan does not respect their customers enough to even inform them of their price increases. I've been waiting to find peace with my experience at this dry cleaner, so I don't write this review out of anger.  I started using with Puritan Cleaners on September 8 and ended my relationship with them on September 29, and have been processing it till today, October 17th. I cannot speak for all races, so I will phare my claim: please do not use this dry cleaner if you are black(poc). The first time I started to use this company, Dave, at the counter made me feel like I was inconveniencing him. They were going as far as saying that I was to other customers and offering them free dry cleaning as a consolation for me taking up their time. After Dave had lost quite a few articles of my clothing, his micro-aggressive abuse got worse. I was asked multiple times to "understand" or make space for white mediocrity and incompetence. He would imply that I was demanding and impatient when checking in the thousands of dollars of rare designer closes I was trying to collect from them. He went as far as yelling at me in front of other white patrons for attempting to collect my resurfaced garments before he gave me a call to let me know he had found them and white saved my black day.  This is after receiving an email from their system saying my clothes are ready and an email from his associate Juliette (who I do not fault for any of this and was terrific to work it the entire time) with a picture confirming those where in fact, my missing garments. He flies into a rage, insulting in the store in front of other white patrons, getting frustrated as I refused to engage him. He still made me pay for my missing pieces and offered the (white) people behind free dry cleaning for having to witness me standing there quietly as he chastised me for his own incompetence. As I left the store, I could hear him call me names and watched, and he and the clients continued to disparage me as I drove off. I should have known that a place called Puritan cleaners was essentially for whites only. I will never be set for in that establishment again, and I hope never to have the displeasure of interacting with Dave, the manager ever again. read more

This is going to be a bit of a mixed review, because I am still figuring out how I feel about Puritan. On the one hand, I love it because THEY DELIVER for FREE. Yes indeed, they will pick up your drycleaning, clean it, and then return it to you, with no delivery charge! You don't have to be home- just sign up through their website, and they will drop off a package that includes a door hanger, two drycleaning bags to put soiled clothes in, etc. You will also probably get a call from your local route manager, just to introduce himself. I did. He was very pleasant, and he does a great job. AND, you don't have to even call them when you need a pickup- your route manager will tell you the two days a week he will be driving by, as well as the approximate time he will be driving by... anytime you have something to be picked up, just hang it on the door! And to top it all off, they keep your credit card on file, and just charge it automatically when you get your clothing cleaned. No hassle, no bills to pay... it's AWESOME. Ok, now for the other hand... Puritan is expensive. Like, $7 to clean a shirt expensive. They do do a nice job (they check for stains and do collars automatically, I've never found a missed spot on anything they've cleaned), but it's a bit costly. AND, their seamstress at this Staples Mill location isn't that great- I had to send a sweater-dress back to be re-hemmed, and the hem fell out again after that! Plus, she hemmed it wrong, so that it is lower in the back than it is in the front. So overall, Puritan is super-convenient, and they do a nice job drycleaning clothing, but they are expensive and I wouldn't recommend their seamstress. read more

When I explained my situation, she was very understanding and offered to help. Rhagda and Shanna were also great and made same-day pickup and delivery just about effortless. Absolutely the worst service I've ever received, in any industry. Had a 2 week projection time to change a zipper (dropped off January 4th, to be done by the 18th) and it had been almost a week past that date (22nd) Then I received an email saying that it was ready, but when I called the store was told that it had been transferred to another location-however upon going to that location, was told they are not in possession of the jacket. I was told that it was likely due to the jacket being on their next shipment of transfers and I would receive a text/email when it arrived- I received no such email. Then called back today (23rd) at the location it was supposed to be transferred to, and no one picked up the phone despite calling multiple times over the course of an hour. So I called the original store, and the (very rude) employee who answered told me that the jacket was in fact still not ready, and that it wouldn't be done until the 25th. When asked as to why I was told that the jacket was done and being transferred, the employee flippantly responded that she didn't know who I talked to or why they would tell me that. I should have read the reviews on other sites because apparently this is a pretty common occurrence for this company. Do yourself a favor and go LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE to have your dry cleaning/alterations done, because this business is terrible read more

I took my work pants and shirt to get fixed here at this store. they didn't do any of the work I had requested them to to they charged me $16.50 for the repairs. I'm mad and I damned a refund I had a button that came off the shirt and I gave it to them to sew back on. Now the button is gone I would not recommend them to anyone. 0/10 for me read more

So I'm lucky enough that my apt complex does dry cleaning with free delivery through Puritan Cleaners. I haven't used it super often, as I normally wear scrubs for work, but lately I've had to dress in normal professional wear. I love being able to put my clothes on a bag on my door Monday am and have them back Thurs. They have been very good with communication during holidays and snow days and I think the prices are competitive with other cleaners. Would definitely recommend! read more

Brought my queen-size feather bed topper here on December 22, put it right on the counter and asked if they handled items of this type. Was told by two gals working the counter that yes, they sure did, and that it would cost me $48. Now, December 26, I get a call that I need to come pick it up, they don't handle feather bed toppers. Actually, the gal calling didn't even know what to call it...."some sort of feather thing, bed thing, I don't know...". I'm sure I'll find another place that does clean these, but in the meantime, was an inconvenience and waste of time taking it to Puritan. Really great. Not cheap but overall worth it. In particular I love the Staples Mill location and the Boulevard location as the folks there are always so nice (for those 2 locations I would say 5 stars, for the company as a whole probably 4). I often drive slightly out of the way to go to Staples Mill because of the later drop off time (10am instead of 9am) for same-day service and because the staff members there are generally fantastic. Manuel and Sterlen greet me by name and the alterations folks are quick and know what they are doing! :) I also appreciate the Saturday same day cleaning since I often travel during the week and only have one day of turnaround! PS I just went into the Staples Mill location and had no idea until I left that I had shown up 5 minutes after close. It is difficult to get the upper leg against a local firm that has the only local newspaper in its pocket with its ads and sponsorship, as well as city administrators, local firms, and many others. They have built a local cleaning empire with two dozen shops. But that does not change the fact that even though I ordered "special treatment" for two brand new dress shirts (which runs you at almost 5 bucks a piece and is supposedly the best manual treatment) I got them returned like two old rags. Full of short (animal?) hair, lost their shine, and poorly ironed. A complaint in the store was met with ignorance. An email was answered in a cynical tone, even though I told them that many coworkers are dissatisfied as well. This is what happens when one local firm in a provincial town becomes too cozy with city officials and local dignitaries. read more

I've used Puritan Cleaners several times now and I've been satisfied, despite the fact that they're somewhat expensive. The last time I dropped off a wool skirt, a short wool jacket and a sweater. I was not so happy with the results. I requested that a pleat be ironed back into the skirt. I brought special attention to this to the clerk. She said it wouldn't be a problem and even pinned the pleat with a safety pin so they would know what to do. The jacket was bought second and and had some cat or dog hair in it. I thought it would come out during the dry cleaning process. When I examined the items at home, I found the the skirt hadn't been ironed nor had any hair been removed from the jacket. In fact, I'm not sure they did anything at all to either of these garments except to hang them on a nice hanger with the Puritan name on it! The sweater turned out O.K. as far as I can tell. I should mention that I didn't bother to complain about these things, so I don't know how willing they would've been to correct them. I'll give them one more chance, but if they f*#ck up my clothes again, I'll find another dry cleaner. To Puritan's credit, they will have your clothes ready the same day if you drop them off before 10:00 a.m. and the staff is courteous and pleasant. read more

I've been using Puritan for a few years now. I get their home delivery and the gentleman that handles my account has been more then friendly, accomodating and all-around dependable. I hang my bag outside, he picks up the dirty laundry and then delivers back fresh, clean clothes. One time I sent them a sweater with a belt and I didn't notice immediately that the belt did not come back with it. I left a message for my delivery guy and he got back to me immediately. Not only did he deliver my belt within the week but he sent a personal note of apology. One time I sent a pleated skirt to be cleaned and I wasn't totally happy with how it was ironed, so I sent it back for a re-do. They re-did it, no questions asked!! These few things happened in the course of the years I've been with them, which is understandable. No one company can be 100% perfect all of the time. But I've found them to be appreciative of my business, willing to fix the "few" errors that have occurred and I've gotten all around great service. I finally got it back after a month and it was covered with hair. I do not recommend this store or this chain. Brought in a pair of suit pants to be hemmed because I was in a wedding and was told they would be ready the Thursday before the wedding. Thursday they were not ready, came back Friday and was told to call back after 5. After five they were still not ready and was told to call first thing Saturday morning..the day of the wedding I was in. I called Saturday morning and was told my pants had been lost. It was hours before a wedding I was supposed to be in and they had lost my pants. I was told they would pay for the cost of the suit and the replacements that I had to buy but I would have to wait until Monday when the manager was there. I called Monday and the manager had no idea what was happening and told me to come in Tuesday, days after the wedding to get a check. Tuesday morning I got a message that my pants had finally been found. I went to pick them up and was still charged $17 without even an apology. I will never bring anything to Puritan again and would recommend that no one else ever trust them. read more

I don't usually write reviews but I couldn't let this go. I took my bedding to the location in Short Pump. A comforter and four pillow shams. Imagine my shock when I picked them up to the tune of $78!! This is more than I paid for the set originally and if they hadn't been silk, I'd have washed them myself. In conversation with the "on-duty" manager, I expressed my outrage and was told that I could just have bought new bedding. Seriously? I asked why I wasn't told the cost when I dropped off the articles. No answer. I am still waiting for a phone call from the General Manager to discuss my options which I am guessing are non-exsistent. The best part of all is that there was a little tag on the hanger of the pillow shams telling me that they tried and tried to but there were stains on the articles that just wouldn't come out. And they look worse than they did when I dropped them off. Don't waste your money or time taking things here. Next time, I'll stick with the cleaners in Goochland who charge reasonable prices and actually clean things. read more
