Pure bread so much variety!!! You'll feel like you're cutting in line but really, you're just trying to decide whether or not you want the scone, cookie, loaf or a croissant! While there are MANY different baked goods to choose from, most of them are just OK. I try to get something different every time I go but nothing has been memorable! I think it's a great place for coffee with a friend as the choices are endless, however, I haven't actually had one that I really liked! read more

The Butter Tart at Purebread is arguably one of the best pastries I've ever had, and I eat quite a bit of pastries! I wanted to try a Butter Tart ($4) while I was visiting Vancouver after seeing it on a Canadian food list. I love tart pastries, especially when they're super buttery and flaky, and Purebread delivered on both of these elements and more. While this was a really sweet pastry due to the addition of dates, I enjoyed and savored every bite of it. I wish I got a cup of coffee to accompany it, as the ooey gooey brown sugary filling and buttery flakiness of the pastry shell would have gone well with a black cup of joe. I was laser focused on trying a Butter Tart that I unfortunately didn't try anything else from here, but everything looked fantastic. There's a wide variety of both savory and sweet pastries that I will absolutely try when I pick up my Butter Tart from here next time I'm in Vancouver! A+. read more

Great service and lots of varieties of bread and pastries to meet your craving. I got crack bar, lemon crumble bar, flourless chocolate cake, and the creme brule bun to go. The creme brule bun taste great and the custard melt in your mouth and taste so light it meets SO's approval (and he doesn't like sweets!) Definite rebuy. Lemon crumble bar is good; I'll get it again once I try out other pastries (and can't find better ones). Crack bar is a bit overrated (might only be good for a couple small bites?) and probably won't get it again since it's just too much. Flourless chocolate cake is great; it's a bit pricey at $12 but considering we were satisfied with a couple bites (and they go to fridge for the next 2-3 days nibbling), will say it's worth it. I hate that I love this place so much. I've been here several times now and tried their chocolate cake, hummingbird cake, sticky bun, bread pudding, rhubarb buttermilk, almond croissant, brownies,.... okay I've been here a lot! Everything has been delicious and there have been no misses so far. It's really cute inside and I love how they display all the goods. It's definitely overwhelming though and even if you go in thinking you know what you want, be prepared to change your mind or leave with more than one item. read more

I made a special walk over here on my day off because I saw the photo somebody posted of the salted caramel brownie pieand it's been haunting my mind for days. Couldn't resist any longer! Simple, clean decor. Friendly staff. Amazing display for baked good junkies, although incredibly overwhelming. Everything is clearly labeled and priced though! Very well crafted goods, for sure. I purchased this salted caramel brownie pie. It's kinda like a cookie sandwich. Not a pie, not a brownie. It was very good. The salt-factor was not overwhelming which was nice. I also bought a chocolate coconut bar thingy; it resembles a super thick nanaimo bar meets no-bake cookie. Also yummy. Enjoyed the base and center. I sliced the chocolate layer off the top and tossed it. Good chocolate but excessive for me. I do this with nanaimo bars, too. My only complaint (with bakeries, in general) is I think sugar is a monstrous pandemic and society has grown (waistbands literally!) to expect and enjoy high sugar and fatty goods. You could point out - Why the heck did you go to a bakery then? Geez! Well, I have a sweet tooth, unfortunately. I'm trying to curb this to the best of my abilities. I loved the treats from this shop but they are too sweet. Their latte was decent, but I did not remember to order it extra hot; this meant drinking a rather tepid coffee drink. Probably the best North American bakery experience. Truly, everything I had there was incredible. I had a creme brulee croissant that was off the charts. Crispy outside, luscious inside, creamy filling. I also had many different pastries. Chinatown has turned into a fancy location with cafes and gourmet restaurants... It's $$$ but this place definitely deserves 5 star. Prosciutto and egg brioche was heavenly. The seasoning, egg, butter(lots) and bread were harmonized, and everything about it was good. The quality of bread, was especially good - which is very important! Having a good bread makes everything awesome. I don't understand why some other places disregard the quality of bread even if they use good ingredients for fillings...bread is very important and this brioche proves that. I also got bread banana brownie (I forgot the exact name but something along that line) . It was a bit heavy for me but was still good stuff. It kind of reminded me of the cakes in my favourite Trafiq Cafe in Main st. and of course for take out, I got Lavender scone and lavender rosemary bread (looks like I have a thing for lavender). Lavender scone had a strong lavender taste with lots of butter. A bit heavy but still good stuff. Lavender rosemary bread had strong taste itself to the extent that I don't need anything else to eat with. I am seriously obsessed with this place! The only downfalls are there isn't enough seating sometimes and you can't eat everything! Their display is absolutely mouthwatering and beautiful. If you stand there long enough they often will give you a sample, so at least you can try another item or two ;) My favorites so far (I try to limit my visits to like once a month) are the lemon bar and salted caramel bar. Amazing stuff here! definitely dances the line where you could be very very outnumbered by strung out people walking on the side walk, which can be intimidating but well worth the chance. We got the ooey gooey chocolate bar, creme brulee brioche (yes you read that right, filled with custard and brûléed), peach rosemary tart, some coffee. We also got a breakfast on a bun, and went back for a second one because it was 100%. Highly recommend. Can't wait to try more soon. read more

We were in the area today and stumbled across Purebread. When I saw the the big letters on the window of "bakery" and people inside I had to go in. My weakness is pastries so this was meant to be. Purebread is a decent size shop with a small handful of tables/chairs and a extraordinary selection of pastries. This was my kind of a candy store. The bakery had loafs, lemon bars, tarts, brioches, scones, croissants, cinnamon bun, pies, cakes, meringue cookies, brownies, cookies and so much more. There is something for everyone at Purebread. While standing in line waiting for a employee I was drooling (not literally). Everything looked so fresh and good. It was my turn to order and I was hesitant in getting a few knowing that I wouldn't be able to eat it all. I ended up getting 2 items; Lavender earl grey scone and a Nutella brioche. The Lavender earl grey scone is amazing. It's moist, flavorful and has just enough sweetness. The frosting drizzle on top adds a nice touch. I have yet to consume the Nutella brioche but will very soon. I know it will be just as good as the scone. The customer service was excellent. The employees were very helpful and knowledgeable. Overall, this is my #1 bakery in Canada. If you are in the area, Purebread is a must. You and your loved ones will not be disappointed. I will return for more scones, pastries and whatever my eyes are attracted to. I'm obsessed and you should be too. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. read more

So they talk the talk, but quite often with baked goods (specially at places that have them delivered, no bakery on site), you put them in your mouth, and they don't walk the walk (taste as good as they look). Had to try this place because of the hype on Yelp but was not impressed at all. As you walk in, you fall in line, there is no menu to look at so all you get is what is out. Didn't like the fact that people look over and talk over, coz i think of people spitting while ordering, would love it if its higher. Its tough to order because you have to walk up and down to choose what you want, and once you move, people move up. Ended up purchasing $50 worth to see what all the hype was about. Ordered ... Lemon square was for my daughter and she thinks its too lemony Crack Bar has coconut in the bottom which made it taste so good Chocolate Scone delicious Pistachio Lemon Cake - moist and the cream cheese frosting tasted like a carrot cake frosting but all the lemon flavor was below and not mixed well. If you plan on eating this. you have to taste from top to bottom like you should with any other pastries ;) Coffee (drip and refillable) taste like any other strong drip coffee Hot Chocolate - taste like what my grandfather used to make, from scratch Mushroom, spinach with cheese pie - Tasty and delicious Ham and Cheese croissant - A bit salty but croissant is flaky and delicious. I wish they would have told me that there is mustard. There were more pastries which i cant remember what but I didn't like because they were not mixed well. Just opened in the last month. Came here after getting Revolver Coffee and needed something to compliment it. Toffee apple puff ($4) - not too sweet - Apple slices not too thick - puff pastry is airy and light - great morning pastry with for your grains and fruit! ENVIRONMENT: Tons of pastries presented when you walk in. Some tables for small groups. For the solo foodie, bar stools are along the front of the shop. SERVICE: friendly staff. A bit confusing to order since staff members would help customers as they asked about the products. Got skipped over 1 or 2 times but the business did just open so hopefully the workflow will work out over the next couple months. Overall, many pastries to choose from that something is bound to suit everyone. They have sweets as well like different brownies (including flourless ones!) and cookies. They also do serve coffee with Stumptown beans but I didn't try any. Great place for those eon like fresh bakery goods. read more

The lavender earl grey scone is in with the sweet scones, but it is surprisingly savory aside from the drizzle on top. If thats not exactly what you wanted out of your scone, it can be a little heartbreaking. Consider this your warning. I was so excited they were open on Good Friday. The first thing that caught my eye was the massive meringues that were piled high near the cash register. The counter is scattered with different types of bars ( crack, brownie), scones ( earl grey,etc), savory and sweet pastries and breads. I tried the chocolate almond croissant which is a hit among most customers and boy was I impressed. First of all it was a huge croissant and it was worth $4. Second of all, the croissant was flaky, buttery and chocolatey like its looks promised. The chocolate centre oozed out after each bite I had and I had to wipe my mouth literally after each bite. Even the eaters and drinkers themselves look engrossed in their books, laptops, chatter and work - or they might just be pretending and are actually thinking about what goodie to try next. What's not so great? The actual goods themselves. I've come here on three separate lunch breaks, hoping to find that one treat that I can't get enough of. Unfortunately, no visit has left me wholly satisfied. I've tried the scones and tarts, but each time there's been something slightly off (i.e raisins in scones, overly-chewy/sticky chocolate tart base). I haven't been in-store, but I've eaten the pastries. My friend brought a bunch to a potluck and yummmmm. Are they ever decadent! I liked that they weren't too heavy, and most of the cakes were very moist. I hate dry cake. There were also several gluten-free choices, and I couldn't even tell that they were gluten-free! We tried: - Oh my Goddess -- dark chocolate with a mousse centre. It was good, but not 'oh my god' good. - Flourless dark chocolate cake - this was my fave. Like a brownie, moist and rich without being too dense. - Lemon blueberry cake - this was good, not dry. Lots of blueberries and a subtle lemon drizzle over top. - Chocolate & Raspberry bars with cream cheese icing. Very very tasty... Wife, friend and I had just finished devouring a plate of tacos each from Tacqueria Pinche... and now... dessert and coffee. I had had the pleasure of having Stumptown Coffee on my most recent Portland trip... and the memory was still alive... really nice coffee.... Dessert / baking wise... I had a caramel apple muffin, the wife had a lime zucchini bread, and the friend had a chocolate cake/cupcake thing. All three were great, but I think I had the star of the show... wasn't super sweet... just enough... just enough apple taste, and the caramel on top was a nice touch as well. Yumm! You always hope when a new place opens up near your work or home that it'll be a new favourite spot. When I saw PureBread under construction, I didn't really expect more than a good little bakery to buy a loaf of bread at now and then. Now that they're open it's a bit of an understatement to say their vast selection of quality baked goods has blown my mind. If I weigh 300lbs come the new year, this place will be to blame. They have sweet loafs, muffins, tarts, bars, and puffs with all manner of creams, berries, sugar coatings and fillings. It's a veritable wonderland of pastries. They also have a pretty good selection of savoury fare if you're not just looking to feed your sweet tooth. Their coffee bar is working exclusively with espresso based drinks at the moment but I was assured they'd have some drip coffee up and running soon. Add to all this the fact that the place itself is bright and cheery and you've got a neighbourhood favourite on your hands. So glad it just happens to be across the street from my work place. read more

Pure stale! This place is the most overrated bakery in town. Pastries are stale as if they've been sitting out all day or microwaved before serving. The drip coffee is very acidic, which is likely low grade robusta coffee. We had the chocolate almond croissant, scone, sugar bun, bacon brioche, and a few other items. I have to say I was very excited to see this place. The pictures looked amazing. But in person it was not as appealing. The service was awful the guy serving us stopped in the middle of our order to get some girls details. I was gob smacked. Where has customer service gone. Now on to the treats. The lemon brownie I had was just too much. I love my sweets but this was gross. My husband got the nutella bun he said it was ok and my son was the winner with the raspberry loaf. If you're on any sort of diet, don't even set foot in here because you WILL buy something, guaranteed. I'm sure you can take a look at the pictures and gather exactly what this place is all about. I have no words that can capture the beauty of such pastries. I've tried a lot of stuff here already - my favourites include the Drunken Apple Blondies, the Ooey Gooey Chocolate Chip Bar, the Salted Caramel Cake, the OMG, and all of their cookies. I've honestly never seen any other bakery with this type of selection. I promise you, you'll have a REALLY hard time choosing which pastries to try. You know when Homer Simpson says "Doughnuts.....aghghghahgh" and drools? Purebread, you have done this to me. You have made me Homer. I was in Vancouver for five days, working out of an office next door. I was there pretty much every day, brought treats to friends, and tried to figure out how I could purchase the entire pastry case and put it in my suitcase. The pastry case is the best pastry case I've ever seen. It gleams and beckons, with its "come hither" cakes and scones. The staff are so kind, and don't mind at all if one eyes the pastries lasciviously. I consider myself well-versed in all things gluten, but I must say, these are the best bakery items I've ever had. The cherry buckwheat scone has the most delightful texture, hearty, crunchy and rich. The chocolate therapy loaf is exactly what it says - I'm not sure I'd ever be sad again if I ate that every day. And the prices are fair for the generous size and top quality of the products. My mouth is angry that I have left Vancouver. It won't forgive me for this betrayal. read more

August 17th 2018 A DAY WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFLAMMATION!! I arrived at the Purest Bread Salon. And much to my chagrin there was a line up so long the damn Cold War Communists would have scoffed!! Being the quickest thunker that I am, I decided to bypass the line, I got low to the ground for the sneak so as not to be seen. I jolted!! button hooked so quickly that Tom Brady himself couldn't keep up with my moves!! I arrived at my final destination and with a confidence I've never felt before I made my demands " One of your finest breads" I yelled! "With a glass of hot coffee" I screamed with conviction! With this the barista looked at me with their cold dead pan eyes and gutted me with one sentence. " back of the line you sneaky snake" ... I was caught, bread-handed. How did they see me? How did they know? I left abruptly. Head low. Feelings ..... hurt. Thank you Purest-Breads. That day I learned a tasty lesson in breaded patience.
