Ask the Community - Pure Barre

What kind of parking is available?

There is metered parking right in front of the studio ($1.75ish per hour?) and free two-hour spots down the street a bit, best on 17th and Q.

It is a great workout, one you can do at any age or fitness level, as it is low impact, high intensity.

Brandon and Sofia, the husband/wife team that own the gym, are the people who made me fall in love with working out. I was totally out of shape when I started with them, but I never felt embarrassed of where I was at, or like I wouldn't be able to participate. The classes are FUN. The energy is high and it always feels like you get the benefit of the group without any weird competitiveness. I tend to take boxing and barre. Boxing is a newer endeavor for men but one class got me hooked the point that I went and bought my own gloves! Barre is a shockingly hard workout, and great for when you want to feel your muscles shake (and struggle to walk the next day). Seriously, take a class. There's no wrong choice. Even if you have injuries, disabilities, etc. they are fantastic at modifying exercises and keeping you participating and working up a sweat all class!

I ended up parking in the neighborhood a couple blocks away (2 hours free parking). Parking close to Cyclebar is meter parking. Checking in was seamless, you just let them know your shoe size, they give you shoes, and you put your stuff away in the locker. The room is dark but more like a club setting. They turn the music up pretty loud and for the private cycle, my friend chose an explicit playlist. Great workout! Would I come back again? For my friend, yes. Voluntarily, no, as cycling take a special type of human being to enjoy it Pros: the instructors were amazing and friendly. It took both instructors to help me lock my shoes into my bike. They were patient with me as we tried to figure things out. The workout was a good one which included a weighted bar and small dumbbell weights. Cons: not in love with the parking situation The audio was a bit off during class so it was hard to understand some of the instructions.

This is the second Cyclebar I've tried in the past two weeks, and while I have mostly enjoyed my…read moreexperience here, there's a few things I think they could do better: Pros: - As with the other Cyclebar, this place is immaculately clean. From the bathrooms to the bikes and the lobby, I feel like I could almost eat off the floor. - The staff is friendly but not too pushy. - The champaign toast after the NYE class was a nice touch. - I like the music styles. Cons: - For some reason, the coaches at this location spend the first ten minutes of class telling everyone about their past day's activities and plans that day. It's a bit strange... - The volume is noticeably louder than the other location. Maybe a bit too loud (and I say that at the risk of sounding old). - I never got my cyclestats from one of my rides, which I like to see. - They don't seem to ever have Empower or Performance classes. All in all, a good spin gym, but be aware of the "cons" I listed if you think they might bother you...

Front desk receptionist are friendly and provide great service. My 24 hour membership was actually declined and i found out it was because my membership was changed from Nation wide access to just regional access. The receptionist was very understanding about this and let me in the gym still. Once inside, i do gotta say the layout of the gym is a little off. not a fan of the 1st floor and 2nd floor set up. But overall I had a good chest day. The top floor has enough bench presses and weights are very organized. People there are friendly and organized. It wasn't too busy at 6am and was able to do all my sets without waiting for machines. I was very impressed with the amount of squat racks they had. Lots of open spaces to stretch and do plyometric work. Lighting is good too as they have big windows overlooking 7th street and it's cross street. My experience here was really good.

People are blasting music on portable speakers, making it very difficult to focus. When I asked the "manager" to intervene he became hostile and told me that the club was public so they don't have any policy about members blasting their own music. Public, really. So I asked, if it is public then I can film and record inside the gym. He said no they have a policy against that. See the level of incompetence. No employess are ever on the floor. The facility is gross, unclean and the equipment is old and broken down. I often see people with no shirts and not others not wearing shoes. This place is low class and unsafe. Worst gym I have ever seen. Unless you just got out of prison, you should find another club. If you did just get out, you are going to love this dump.

She is asks for suggestions on how to make the studio and classes better, including new times, classes, etc. The 30/30 spin and sculpt kicked my butt, sculpt/boot camp class with Marc or Rose are great, the Pilates Fit was pretty kick butt too. I really liked all the classes! The Pilates/Yoga class wasn't very intense, but it was a good class to get a good stretch and work the core and bootie. Tip for parking - you don't have to pay the street parking fee if you park on the side street, I believe it was 22nd, instead of parking on J St. Great studio to work out at!

I checked out their class schedule online and it fit my schedule so I bought a Groupon. 4 weeks unlimited boot camp. I got on their website, signed in and signed up to go to an orientation. This is where I met the owner/trainer Rose. She showed me around the place and filled me in on the need-to-knows. There's snacks and bottled water you can purchase.. merchandise.. This is all in the reception area, when you first walk in the door. (Filtered water at the sink to fill your bottle as well). You sign in at the desk and if you come in early for a class, you're welcomed to jump on a stationary bike to warm up. There's cubbies to keep your personal items.. They have a restroom and even a shower for those on the go.. The main studio area suits maybe eight people comfortably and initially I wondered about the workout and how it would accommodate a large group and they split them up into smaller groups to work in different rooms as part of a circuit. P.S. I dislike the Christmas lights in the studio. Currently, there's Marc, Rose, and Jill instructing classes. Music could be better. But that's personal taste, right? Everybody is incredibly nice from the people that work there to the people that workout there. (They're all also not intimidating). You have to sign up online or using the app for classes prior to showing up. I liked having to do that because it was scheduling the workout into my day and not leaving room for me to put it off. There were days I didn't want to go in but I signed up so I felt like I HAD TO GO. And you'll never regret going. On the instructor side, signing up tells them how many people are coming and help them tailor a workout for that size of a class. Classes weren't crazy.. just challenging. As a result of 4 weeks, I feel stronger. There wasn't any pressure to keep going when your time was up but they do offer an incentive. I'd also receive recipe emails and goings on newsletter types.

Her passion truly shows! Every instructor is phenomenal, but I have to give a special shoutout to Molly, she's my absolute favorite! Her classes are thoughtful, challenging, and always leave me feeling stronger and more connected to my body. The level of instruction is truly unmatched - they don't just lead you through movements, they guide you, explain how you should feel in each exercise, when to breathe, how to align, and they correct your form in the kindest and most encouraging way. Each class is different, and I always leave having learned something new. It truly breaks my heart to be moving away from Humani, because I know no other studio will compare. Humani has honestly set the bar so high. If they ever open a studio in Marin, I'll be first in line and a customer for life. No question!!!
