Pilates isn't…read morenormally my first choice when it comes to choosing workouts, but I do know how vital it is to incorporate in one's routine. I notice they recently added a strength class, so I had to finally give it a try. The studio is conveniently located near the West 4th stop. Plenty of cafes/coffee shops to grab a healthy post workout smoothie/bite. You'll need to get buzzed into to go up a flight of stairs to the studio. Inside it's very serene and peaceful. The space is intimate. There's a few changing spaces with some amenities to freshen up, and cubbies for your personal items. I enjoyed the strength class and will continue focusing on those for the time being. The instructor was very friendly and engaging. Moved around the studio throughout the class and inquired about my experience post workout.

Classes move fast with high reps that really make you feel the burn, targeting all major muscle groups in the upper body, lower body, glutes, and core. One thing I really like about Physique 57 is that the instructors do a good job of integrating rhythm/musicality into the exercises and maintaining an upbeat atmosphere throughout class. They're also great about providing individual attention and correcting form when necessary. In terms of the studio, I've visited all 3 studios in SoHo, UES, and NoMad. The NoMad location, which just opened a few months ago, is extremely new and by far the most gorgeous and spacious of the three!

I wanted to update this since we are now about a year since fitness studios reopened…read more COVID policies have been relaxed since our city/state have been relaxing guidelines based on positivity rates and vaccination. I think they've been doing well with this and continuing to clean between classes. Masks no longer required in class. They've recently had a lot of new "deals" which is nice for regulars like myself. I really miss the annual unlimited, because I am paying so much more lately to take fewer classes. Thankfully, they're doing a summer three month unlimited -- I hope they continue something beyond that. More recently, I've been interacting with Brigid, their customer experience manager. I can really tell a difference in the quality of customer service since she's come on board -- she is very responsive and so pleasant, and she is extremely client oriented. For example, they transitioned from one fitness app to another to book classes, and it's been a problematic transition in so many ways. Not only did Brigid fix the issues, she also gave me some extra classes for the trouble. I finally feel valued for being a loyal client (there was a point in time when I wasn't feeling such a way). When there were some further issues, I reached out to her and she's been working through all of those issues with me. Can't say enough positive things about her. My only reason for dropping a star is that showers are still not back. I understood this immediately post pandemic (and they had to consolidate four studios' worth of belongings into one), but it's really difficult to schedule your day and get around the city without a shower option. I understand that times are tough, but class prices are higher than before, yet we also lack the amenities that we had before (showers, towels). Showers seem to be back at most other fitness studios. If the showers came back, I would definitely be more encouraged to take additional classes. The scheduling game is more of a challenge with this.

I am currently on my third Pulsd deal for the Bar Method and let's just say I am OBSESSED. I have…read morealways been reluctant to shell out $20-30 for a fitness class or $200/month for a membership. Instead I just dabbled with classes and mostly worked out at home. After a month of unlimited barre classes with their Noho location, I loved how sculpted and toned my body had become. I noticed that my butt had become visibly more sculpted and lifted and overall, I felt more flexible and stronger. After my first month at Noho, I couldn't repurchase their unlimited classes Pulsd so I bought the 10 for $89 voucher for this location. This location seems a lot smaller but the facilities are still extremely clean and stylish. Their class times are far more limited but I make it work. At this point, I've taken a class with several of the instructors and noticed that they each have different teaching routines that they rotate. I love that the different routines keep me challenged and excited to go back. My favorite instructors are definitely Linnea and Alison. Like all the others, they do hand ons on adjustments and will give individual tips during the class. Their routines are challenging but still do-able for me. By the end of class, your core and glutes will be rock hard from "gripping your seat" and back dancing. Classes incorporate a well balanced blend of arm work, pushups, thigh and seat work at the bar, and core work on the mat. I leave every session feeling better than I felt before. The post workout recovery session allows me to stretch out my tight muscles and relax. The only con to the Bar Method is their strict lateness policy. Due to the unpredictable train mishaps in NYC, I have been over ten minutes late multiple times and had to forfeit my class, IN ADDITION to being charged a late cancellation fee of $15. I feel that is a bit harsh since I already lost a class. Still, I would recommend the Bar Method to people at all levels of the fitness spectrum. It is easy to follow and all exercises are modifiable. Instructors are great at providing feedback so you do the moves effectively and classes are affordable when purchased through Pulsd.
