VERY STRICT ABOUT STAYING UNTIL THE END OF CLASS. I'm a working mom with two kids under 2, so there is only one class time that works for me but I need to duck out 5 minutes early. The two staff there made it very clear that I was unwelcome if I couldn't stay for the whole session, which is a shame since from what I've read online and in my experience, other studios are much more understanding of someone quietly leaving early. The class itself was a great workout, and as reviewers have said there is parking in the back. I would have liked to become a regular. read more

Really felt lower body the next day! It was my first time doing barre and your first time is free! The instructor was so kind and helpful. It was a good mix of lower body, arms, abs, so the class felt short in a great way. Nice clean studio with a really kind and motivating instructor. read more

great location for pure barre. its right outside downtown burlingame so theres lots of brunch or smoothies to get after class. the studio is clean, theres lots of spots to put your phone, wallet, keys, etc. they have a mini store to buy some merchandise. the staff is friendly. the instructors are great and as you start coming more, they remember you. a great 45 minute barre class in a great location. you'll be sweating and sore for days to come. read more

I have been going here off and on for four years and I will never be going back. It's difficult to park in the evening sometimes and I arrived 1 minute late for a class and they would not let me in because the class is "too intense" and you need to be able to be at the same "energy" as the rest of the class from the beginning. It's absurd that they won't let people into a class for being one minute late. They also don't offer a refund for your money. I'm very fit and can certainly keep up with a class like this after one minute. Don't bother. So many other classes out there. Would be great to have at least received a refund! read more

It is my second review on Yelp and I still love this place !! The location is perfect and very close to burlingame downtown. There is a parking lot on the back. The place is clean, nice, big and full off items you can buy for your class (socks, heacband, apparel, drinking bottle etc) The people at the front desk are friendly and nice. The class is a 55 minutes on a dynamic music and very good excercises. It is not all about the barre but wr are using a ball, a mat and a double tub in class. The method is the hardest and the more efficient method that I have ever tried. The teachers have very good advices and they care about modifications that you will need in case you have injuries. I haven't stopped thinking about coming back since. I tried this out back in September and loved it, I have been busy getting my yoga certification but can not wait to come back to Pure! I fell in love with the community that comes out of this studio. Everyone is so warm and welcoming. Even on my first day the instructor made sure I felt comfortable in the space. The location is great and is walking distance from my house which I love! One thing I wish was a little better is the music/more upbeat workout. I love Pure Barre Burlingame! The classes are super tough and the instructors are really nice. I have been long time members at other barre studios but pure barre is my ultimate favorite. I'm disappointed that I haven't discover it sooner. It's ALOT tougher than bar method and the Dailey method and instructors do not embarrassingly call you out or single you out for doing something "wrong", but instead respectfully approaches each person and corrects and always leaving on a positive note. I came here for a beginners session 5 months ago and have been suffering from lower back pain ever since. I am extremely upset and have had to go to many doctors and physical therapists to try to get me back to my original state. I joined Pure Barre Burlingame in December 2018. Over the last few months I have seen a noticeable change in my body - strength, endurance and tone. My self confidence, energy and overall well being has also improved thanks to the variety of classes and the awesome instructors. First, there are 3 different types of classes: the classic (which is great for when you're first starting!), empower: more cardio and uses a step of platform and reform: lots of great strength work and cardio. All 3 of these classes are different and I think if you give yourself some variety in the type of classes, you'll definitely see a difference in your body. There isn't a square inch of my body that doesn't "feel it" after class. Also, the studio will often offer intensive classes that focus on core, or legs, etc and they also do "foundation" classes that help to focus on form. I have some old knee injuries so this is perfect for me because it's low impact on my joints, yet a very effective cardio burn - It's a great program! Also, I really love the studio because there is easy parking in the lot behind the building and the music is great, the studio is clean and most importantly, the instructors and the staff are very welcoming and nice. I came in for my first class today with an awesome instructor. They have four different classes and I took an empower class that is a little more fast paced cardio workout. Most importantly it kicked my butt. Really great workout class that focuses on every muscle in the body, especially your legs. Coming out of class, I was approached by the instructor and the front desk to see how I enjoyed the class. I will be coming back as a weekly member. Super stoked! read more

I was very excited to try this place and purchased a 30 day unlimited package. While I got a good workout I don't think any of the girls that work there are especially friendly. They were always busy gossiping and really didn't engage with any customers before/after class except for a quick "bye, have a nice day" as people left the studio. They are very young (18-27?), and perhaps don't know that professionalism goes a long way. I even tried to discuss how to modify a move because of an injury with one of the teachers but I could tell she wasn't taking it very seriously. I'm not upset about it, and might have continued going if it was the only barre studio around but with The Daily Method and Barre Method so close each studio really has to be at the top of their game. Also, the workout is VERY repetitive and the moves are shouted out like my old high school cheer-leading squad and after the third class I knew the order in which the workout was done. read more

After having a baby and struggling to drop the excess weight, it was hard for me to develop a fitness routine that was exciting yet effective. My sister-in-law introduced me to Bar Method in 2012. I was eager to delve into the world of barre classes and ready to see my body change. The classes were grueling and painful. As a beginner, it was also embarrassing to have your name called out during class if your form was incorrect. That part, I could deal with. But after signing up for unlimited classes for $180 a month and not seeing results after 6 months, I grew discouraged and discontinued. Fast forward to 2014. I have finally learned to reel in my diet and my sister-in-law introduced me to Pure Barre in San Diego during a recent vacation there. I loved it! There was more cardio involved and the poses were challenging. I ended up taking 3 classes during my 4 day stay and I felt very lean and fit combining the workout with a proper diet. I was disappointed coming back to San Mateo and not having a Pure Barre accessible to me. Lo and behold, one day I see a PB studio out of the corner of my eye after a recent visit to Mollie Stones. Eager to try PB again, I signed up for the unlimited first timer package just in time for an August bachelorette party in Vegas. With my sister-in-law recently being recruited to be a PB instructor in San Diego, I was excited to have the opportunity to Lift Tone and Burn while up here and see how ready I could be for Vegas. I have been maximizing every opportunity I get to visit the studio. All of the instructors are super challenging and helpful. I recently took a class with the studio owner, Alyssa, and I seriously was about to die midway from the pain and the use of the double tubing. I loved it! Most of all, I loved that after 10 classes my body is leaning out. This is the result I've been eagerly waiting for since having my now 3 year old daughter! I've lost inches and am only 3 lbs away from my "happy weight". Before PB, I never thought I could even reach that goal and now I'm almost there. I get excited to attend class to see how much more my body can change. I highly recommend PB. read more

Alyssa's classes are so awesome, I seriously LOVE how sweaty and sore I am after an hour with her. I especially liked it when they had a guest instructor come in and teach; the energy of the room was amazing and I had never seen so many students in the studio. Hopefully, they'll do this more often! It's been almost a full month since I've been doing barre, and in conjunction to more cardio, I'm definitely seeing my body become leaner and more toned. This review is wayyy long overdue! I started going to Purre Barre Burlingame in June 2015 and was immediately hooked. I loved the pace of the class, how welcoming the instructors and staff were (it was a nice touch when they made the effort to remember your name!) and the music. Classes were definitely challenging - you make it as hard as you want to be - and was a total body workout. I started with the new clients special and enjoyed my first month so much that I continued with the unlimited monthly package. When you hit your 100th class, you get a special treat! I've since moved away from Burlingame and am going to a different PB, but Alyssa and team, you guys will always have a special place in my PB heart! read more

I'm still pretty new to barre (less than 10 classes in), but I Iove it already! Before joining ClassPass, I mainly did cardio workouts so this was totally different to me, but it was just what I needed! I'm bummed that I can only go to Pure Barre 3x a month because it's my favorite barre studio so far. The studio and equipment are super clean, there's plenty of parking the connecting garage, class times are convenient, music is awesome, staff is friendly, and the classes are fun and challenging! The instructors are really helpful too - I like that they assist you in correcting your form without calling you out in front of the whole class unlike at the Bar Method where they pretty much make sure everyone knows you're new. Anyway, barre (especially here) is definitely harder than it looks. It's a great work out and I wish I could go more often. Don't underestimate those one inch moves! read more

Some people love it.. I didn't. I liked that I was sore the next day but the class itself not so much. The instructor told us that they were popular for their music - this surprises me... I didn't like the music. I wouldn't point this out, but she stressed how good their music was and well it just wasn't. I felt lost a lot of the time.. Tuck and push.. I get tuck (I think), but push where? The instructor wasn't super helpful. Also the mirrors were all fogged up at the end - bad ventilation - so it was hard to see your form. I'm so excited about this place after trying my first class yesterday! I have Class Pass so I've been signing up for studios all over the area. I was feeling iffy on barre classes in general after a pretty disappointing class at nearby Dailey Method, but this studio is SO much better. I am picky about my fitness studios, but this place has it all. Lots of convenient class times, lots of parking, and the class itself was fun and definitely challenging. The front desk staff was friendly, as was the instructor Hayley. Hayley was extremely sweet and very accommodating (I am 5 1/2 months pregnant which definitely creates more work for instructors!) she helped me modify moves and correct my form which I really appreciated. The music was fun and the class moved quickly so you never got bored, plus I'm sore the next day (the ultimate test) Excited to come back for more classes through class pass! read more

First off WOW! What a KILLER work out! This was my first time ever doing barre and I was blown away by how great the class was. This particular studio is also awesome. When I first got in the the person checking me in was super nice and introduced me to the instructor (Karen) who asked if I had any questions. She was really helpful and walked me through what the class would be like and showed me the equipment I'd be using during the class. On top of that, she even helped me after the class to better understand a move I was having trouble with. The class size wasn't too big so I felt like the instructor was able to really help everyone with their form. I am so impressed and I cannot wait to come back for more. If you're wondering if it's worth it, let me tell you it absolutely is. read more

Not all barre classes are created equal! I've been going to Dailey Method for about 2 years now because I used to conveniently live close to a studio, but I recently switched over to Classpass, and now have more freedom as to what studios I can attend. PB is definitely different than DM in that I felt PB had a bit more cardio, whereas DM is more focused on smaller movements and toning. As someone who likes to be constantly moving during workouts (sorry Bikram...it's you, not me), PB was more up my alley in that I never really got a moment's rest at any point of the 55 minute class (but in a good way!). While each instructor will be different, I felt that my class had a good balance between upper and lower body moves. The only con that I could see is that PB is a bit more fast-paced than other barre classes I've been to, so if you're not familiar with barre, you'll probably struggle a little bit to keep up. However, the instructors are more than great, and will come around the class helping you correct your form if needed. Also, don't be afraid to look at what others are doing because some women are definitely regulars, and have great form to copy from. As for the studio, it's definitely more upscale than some studios I've been to. The floor mats are a thicker quality (so less potential back pain), and they hand out wipes for the mats after the class, which makes me feel better knowing that my sweaty self is not imprinted permanently on the mat. In addition, the carpets are clean, and the equipment/sound system are all newer with no quality issues. Parking was easy on the street for a 7PM weeknight class, but there is also a public lot across the street from the studio. While it is a bit more expensive through non-Classpass methods, I definitely think it's worth the price. I would not drop cardio or weights from my workout routine (but that applies to all barre class for me), but I definitely plan on incorporating a class every week or so. read more

So my barre experience is just where ClassPass has taken me so on the positive, I've had the opportunity to try out a number of different barre studios. On the negative, I never go to one studio long enough to particularly feel part of the community. Felt the need to preface with that before I got started on the review because it's a big reason why I feel the way that I feel about it. This place gives a GREAT workout. Like, I'm literally drenched in sweat after each class, which is way different than how I feel after a class at Dailey Method. It just feels way more intense and I struggle to get through the class, but in a good way. The downside is that I don't get that much of a "welcoming" feel as I have in other studios. Again, this is probably due to the fact that I only come in once or twice a month so everyone else really knows each other so I'm not going to ding them on that. And their front desk and instructors are definitely nice and accommodating. Other than that, they're a nice, clean facility. No towels to give away so bring your own. Other plus is that they have 7pm classes every day, which helps for those of us who don't work in the peninsula but live in the area so that's a major plus for it. read more

I gave the Dailey Method a try over a year ago also in Burlingame and left the 1st month with no results and only feeling bad about myself after going for 20/30 days. When Pure Barre opened across the street from my office I was skeptical that it would be a similar situation. Boy was I WRONG! The owner (Alyssa) and every single women working there was so warm and welcoming. I have been going non-stop for over a year now. If you want a motivating and fun environment for your workout then this is the place for you. Even if I didn't have amazing results (which I do) - the best shape of my life at 30. I would still go just because the culture there is so amazing! Do yourself a favor and take 2 classes (first one can be a little overwhelming) and bring your friends! read more

Alyssa and her team are ALL truly amazing professionals and teachers. They are so mindful of supporting people on their fitness journeys. This workout series is LIFE CHANGING!!! Pure Barre is simply the BEST bar type class around. It is intense, and integrates a ton of cardio and strength training all together. You will sweat and this is a gift. Not all bar classes achieve this level of intensity. This intensity is key to transformation. If you want a BEST in class bar class experience go to Pure Barre Burlingame. Also, I LOVE how SAFE this workout series is. It is entirely low impact! I absolutely can see how ALL levels of fitness are welcome and ALL levels will find each class challenging in the best way possible! I really like the energy at Pure Barre. The owner, Alyssa is very nice and encourages you to make the most of the workout. She's also very good about helping with your form. The classes are tough, but I feel like I'm really making changes to my body. The studio is very clean, and they have a small selection of nice workout clothes. As you can see, my star review hasn't changed, if anything I wish I could give MORE stars. When I first started at Pure Barre I had no idea I would find this amazing community and would come to love it this much. I've never been able to find a consistent work out routine, until now. I've noticed such a change in my strength and flexibility. Since starting a year ago, I've been able to do the splits on my left side! I never got this flexible doing yoga or any other work out. Additionally, all of the instructors are SO NICE. Every single one is committed to your improvement and wants you to succeed, but I want to give a special shoutout to my girl Carla, she seriously makes me sweat and coming back for more! Also, it never feels cliquey or uninclusive. Other class-goers will always talk to you and the instructors go out of their way to make newcomers and seasoned veterans feel welcome. The owner (Alyssa B) is seriously superwoman, she knows everyone who walks in the door! I've always felt appreciated and encouraged at this studio and Alyssa is a huge part of that since she embodies that from the top down. If you're new, each instructor will make sure you're close enough to the instructor to see what's happening and give you a little extra encouragement/help to make sure you're getting the most out of the class. Every class will push you; I've never regretted taking a class but I have regretted not making it in for my workout. I feel like they put on the perfect amount of challenges and space them out well so it doesn't feel overwhelming or like they only happen once in a blue moon. There's always a chance to push yourself and show what you can do in 30 or 60 days. And if you miss a challenge, you know there's another one coming up and you never feel discouraged. From the bottom of my heart, I cannot thank Pure Barre Burlingame enough for what an amazing place it is and all the amazing people in it. After almost 90 classes at this studio, I have never been more in love. As someone who used to dislike all forms of exercise, I am amazed at the change I see in my body and in my mood! From my first class (though I may have struggled through 90% of the moves) I fell in love. It definitely is a tough and challenging workout, but it is never impossible. It is also easy to modify some of the moves if you have injuries or are pregnant. The teachers bring the right amount of energy to motivate & support without ever making me feel judged for what I can (and can't yet) do. I love hearing my name called out in class when I am shaking in a thigh sprint :) Definitely keeps me going! The workouts are varied, but the structure is always the same - this helps me mentally survive a class and know what is coming next. The classes are also offered all throughout the day, which helps with my ever-changing work schedule. I also enjoy that I can sign up for classes through the Pure Barre app - makes my life a lot easier. I also recently was able to take a Pure Barre Platform class - what a different experience! The addition of Platform will really take my workout to a next level. Yes, it's challenging and sweaty and crazy - but it's also pretty fun to let loose and dance it out. I recommend Pure Barre to anyone and everyone, of all ages and abilities. It does take about 5-10 classes to really get the motions down and to really learn how to "tuck". Stick it out, it will be worth it - not only for the workout, but also for the friends you will make and the amazing teachers you will meet. P.S. It's a great class with fun music but I wish the instructors were more friendly. At my last class (I haven't been in a while do to having 2 babies back to back) I had some trouble looping my band over the bar and the instructor (one person away) let me struggle and never came over to help. This was my first time doing a barre class, and I took this via class pass. My friend had recommended this class, and it didn't disappoint. Definitely a different class then I'm used to with all the smaller movements/motions & different form. When I saw the tiny 2 and 3 pound weights, I thought it would be a piece of cake, but little did I know those exercises were killer! You have to adjust and learn all the movements, but the instructor was really great about coming around and adjusting my form and helping me. I am pretty sore today! I've always been curious about barre. It has a strong following. But it just wasn't for me. As someone who works out regularly I didn't feel the benefit of this class. It's not likely that I will add this to my current routine. Being completely new to barre I didn't feel that this place did a good job of explaining each exercise and how to get into the proper formation. I relied on staring at the people around me and trying to mimic what they were doing. The instructor would come around and adjust but by the time I was adjusted the exercise was nearly over. It's about small movements. I so badly wanted to feel the burn, but while doing the motions there were instances where I felt nothing so I really questioned if I was doing it right. The instructor is very positive but the instruction comes out quickly in a rushed pace. I understand they're trying to fit everything in an hour but when you're completely new you can imagine how confusing it can be! My friend who took a class with me and took another class the following week agreed with me in saying she didn't feel the burn so she wondered if she was doing everything right. I would suggest slower, broken down instruction for beginners! read more

This place was great. As a beginner they were very welcoming, made sure I was doing the exercises right and made sure that I got the most out of the workout.
