So let's start with the meat head ego tweeker at this place I bought the $129 meat pack and I received nothing but freezer burnt meat my bacon had so much water in it but he claimed it wasn't freezer burnt. how was water in the package of our NY strips. They were brown af and had some red to it but smelled so bad and was so slimy.. Also was told that it's normal for there to be brown on the meat that's called spoiled meat when it smells like a dead dog So sick and sad this is the 3rd time we have gotten rotten meat and freezer burnt shit read more

On my way home from Vegas, we stopped at Purdy's. My uncle wanted some authentic New Mexico tortillas and I wanted some Hatch chilis. We found what we wanted and kept it moving. We delivered the tortillas and made it home. I decided to open the chilis and enjoy them with dinner. Very good! Stopped by this little Gem in Barstow today. Since it is a last name in our family we had to try it! We purchased 2 lbs of carne asada and 1/4 lb each of bbq jerky and peppered jerky. We were definitely NOT disappointed. All of the meats were extremely tender. We absolutely enjoyed the jerkies for our appetizer and our carne asada tacos turned out delicious! I routinely come up to Barstow from Hesperia to purchase a side of beek about once a year. the quality of the meat far surpasses that of what you would expect to get at a fine steakhouse like Ruth Chris. The meat is soo tender and flavorful. when they butcher the meat, they do it to your specifications with some added perks. like you dont get near the same amount of fat left on the cut as you would from a grocery store. they will ground beef with the ratio you want (i.e. 80/20, 90/10) and the customer service has always been top-notch. I can attest to some of the other reviews regarding the chilies...they have quite a selection of those. read more

Was in Barstow for work and heard the radio announcement that this little meat market was the only supplier in California for New Mexico Chilies. Well just had to find out more since so many people in the family-in-law are big on chilies and especially barbecuing chilies. They have a wide assortment of new mexico chilies from hot to x-hot, chopped, whole, diced, dried, chili powder, and even new mexico chilies' tamales. Don't know about anything else in the store but if you are near Barstow and wanting some New Mexico chilies this is the place to go. read more

Not much to say here -- this is your typical small neighborhood market. A little of this, a little of that, and most importantly, a New Mexico goods section. Notably, they carry hatch chiles -- frozen, green, red, pureed, chopped, etc. and at a much better price than you'd find online, and only bested by buying and roasting them fresh in their short season. If you live in the area, lucky you (I guess). If not, and you want to try the best chiles, stop in and pick some up. read more

Average meat market but they have NM chili's and in various ways. Red green hot mild roasted etc. We got some roasted green. Came home and made some chili Verde. It was awesome. Spicy and really good. We will be back for more. Can't wait to try the red chili. read more

the rumors are true! purdy's is stealing our home grown meat. we sent them a grass and grain fed steer to be processed and they tried to pass off a fatty cow back. they didn't count on us taking photos of the steer being quartered. our steer was not fatty, he was lightly marbled. when we made a surprise visit to the store they showed my husband a rear quarter...it wasn't ours. we have the tail in our freezer at home and this quarter was fatty and had the tail. oops! read more
