On a not-so-typical Saturday, my husband wakes up and can not move. Well okay, not full out paralysis, after all my hunky monkey is a weight lifting stud who takes pretty good care of himself...but his back was not allowing his lower body to move without pain. So we rush, all ambulance style to the chiropractor before he closes and are told that the big man has a serious back strain for which he must rest. We go out to the fine little cab that is my 07 Accord, hubby walking like a 90 year old and the car will not start. WTF? Did I mention the hunk was also a grease monkey at one point in time? Oh yeah, he says, its dead. Summoning my charm to the Tempe Muni guys who had just pulled up for lunch at Jason's, they gave us a jump AND refused to let us buy them lunch. I have no words in which to explain how well I was treated at this location. I got a flat tire on Christmas Day, of all days, and the let me drop my car off first thing the morning after. Along with that, I didn't have time to give my info before going to work so the let me call on my lunch break to fill them in. To top it all off, they made sure I was able to pick my car up after work that night even though they were closed. I know this all doesn't seem like "above and beyond" for most, but they made a stressful situation a lot easier for me than most companies would. The other day I woke up with a flat tire and I was going to be late to work, so I took the gamble and drove the half mile down to the shop and told them about my tire. They stopped what they were doing to look at it and patch it up for me- I was in and out in less than ten minutes and they didn't charge me a dime! So, my car had been vibrating for about a week and I thought I needed an alignment so I took it to the nearest place I could find that did alignments, after price checking around. Turns out their prices are about average for that kind of thing so I went to them. After they looked it over they said my steering gear assembly was bad and that my tires were moving almost 4 inches independently of one another! Because of this the alignment wouldn't be any good until I got it fixed. They also said my front 2 tires were bad and needed to be replaced (which was true, I knew that for a while). Safe to say, I was scared for my car! They quoted me $921.60 for everything. Luckily I never do anything without a second opinion so I dropped in on my family mechanic, Bill at Black Canyon Automotive, in North Phoenix while I was in the neighborhood the next day. He put it on the lift, he brought me under the car with him and he pointed out that there was nothing wrong with the steering gear, the tires were moving perfectly with one another, and an alignment wasn't the issue. The vibration was from a bubble in my front driver side tire because one of the tires belts was broken. I went to Discount Tire, got 2 new tires, and all was well for only $200! Thinking back I realize how bold faced the lie Purcell's fed me was. I mean, if my tires were moving 4 inches independently of one another the car couldn't make it out of the parking lot, forget about slight vibrations over 65MPH! These guys are liars and crack pots! I was studying for finals and so driving back and forth to campus a lot. All of a sudden one evening my car's coolant light went on. I take care of my car and so was concerned about the light. I took it into Purcells where they proceeded to tell me that my car might overheat and explode if I continued to drive it, thus making me their captive. I called my fiancee and told him the deal. A couple hours later Purcells contacted me and said the engine needed repair and would cost around $900. I asked if there were any sort of discounts and they said no. Then when my fiancee went in they magically made it only cost $700. I still don't think anything was wrong with my engine after all is said and done, but just paid them and went on my way, vowing to never come back. read more

This service was great. I had been loosing aid in my front right tire... I took my tire in for a replacement because Goodyear told me that I wouldn't be able to patch it up. After unsuccesfully trying for 2 days in a row to get tires and an oil change at the location next door to me on Hardy I went to Southern location off Mill. My car was completed 3 hours ahead of the promised time and for exactly the price I was quoted. They listed several items they recommend as needing service, one if which I agreed to. Very pleasant experience. I was there 5 minutes to drop the car off. 1 phone call that lasted about 45 seconds on the suggested work, and I was there less than 5 minutes to pick up the car. They have worked on all of my vehicles from 1975 Jeep Chief 1985 Chevy PU to our 06 Hyundai and 08 Kia. I trust them so much that now even my daughter uses them! DON'T EVER COME HERE!! I purchased the 4-pack oil change plan sometime ago and they just turned me away because I didn't have a punch card (they supposedly gave me). It's 2015!!! You should rely on a computer instead of a card!!! So now I'm out $80 unless the manager verifies with corporate. Have to wait til Monday. I will make sure none of my family or friends use Purcell again unless this is fixed! read more

I called around to locate and get price quotes for specific tires with an "out the door" price including mounting and balancing. Purcell quoted less expensive than the rest. I agreed, made an appointment and they ordered the tires. When I got there they tried to sell me the scam tire insurance (It only adds replacement coverage for the 2% of punctures which are not repairable, and only at their chain) and I declined. The price which I was quoted was not the price I paid. They had two individual itemized charges for both balancing and for tire disposal and added a materials fee. It was about $70.00 over the "out the door" price, which became more expensive the last time I purchased identical tires elsewhere and competitor's phone quotes. They opened my hood and poked around while I was not present without my permission, then tried to convince me to have them do additional work which they described as dire. There is NO reason to open my hood during a tire transaction. It took almost two hours to change four tires despite an appointment and not being busy. This week I got a coupon in the mail, since they also added me to their mailing list without asking. I won't be using it. I'll give them some credit, though- they didn't take a chunk out of my rim like discount tire did with their rushed work. There is obviously a reason why business is slow for this shop when the scammable ASU students are away and why they have no reputation on Yelp. I gave two stars because the product itself is what I asked for and they were installed properly. They did do something right. read more

This place is the worst.i needed a quick patch on my tire and they said they can fix it in a couple of hours. Unbelievable! I didn't have a spare so I couldn't move my car. I asked if I can leave it there while I get my tire fixed somewhere else but they made me move my car to the plaza parking lot and I damaged my tire even more. I would not trust my two vehicles to anywhere else other than Brian and his team. It is extremely difficult to find a shop that is honest and does not try to up sell at every turn. After so many bad experiences of being ripped off and over charged at other shops, I now have piece of mind whenever I need some work done on my civic or cruze. I pulled in for an oil change last Saturday with no appointment and a full parking lot. They were able to get me out the door in under 90 minutes! These are great guys. I had an 8 inch bolt go through my right rear tire coming off the freeway and I was lucky and blessed I was able to limp to a Purcell's. They didn't have my kind of tires and no bandwidth to replace them but they got me to this Purcell's a mile away. They gave me a great price because of my military service. My family has been coming to Purcell Tire & Service for more than 10 years. At one time we were a 5 vehicle family and it felt as if we had at least one vehicle in the shop each week. The manager Brian has been sympathetic to our repair bill pain, often throwing in a free oil change. To find a mechanical shop that displays honest, trustworthy, reliable service is a comfort. We know when we take our cars and trucks in the work will be done right, in a timely manner and only needed services are performed. Thank you to the Rick, a service technician, who is always willing to go that little bit extra for our family. This week we had our daughter's car in as it was running rough. Rick was able to find the gas leak, change out the fuel pump and get her back on the road the same day. Yesterday we had our truck in for an oil change, tire rotation and balance. Purcell gets the work done on time, follows through and calls to let me know whats happening and how much its going to cost. I trust them with our cars and they aren't new. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE!! I've dealt with them twice. Both times for easy tire patches. I've worked at a tire place and doing a simple patch takes literally 10 minutes. The first time I stopped in, I dropped off the tire and they said an hour or two. I stopped back in after two hours and they hadn't moved the tire from where I left it. Finally called me after five hours and said it was ready. Today, I take my truck in with a screw in the tire and ask how long. The guy says we are soo busy, it will take all day. Like I'm inconveniencing him. I'm self employed and if I treated my customers with such a "who gives a sh$t" attitude, I wouldn't be around too long. I drove home, took my tire off and took it to another place a couple main intersections away. They had it done in under an hour(they were just as busy if not more so) and they didn't even charge me a dime! Not sure how these guys are still in business! read more

Told me I needed an elevated oil for an oil change. Ok.. However after walking out to see progress I saw the guy letting air out of my aftermarket wheels and tires. I asked why. He said we always put tire pressure at what came from factory. 35 psi is what they changed it to. I called tire company next day. They said never run these tires under 65psi. That's pretty close to half in my book. They were at 70 when it went in for oil change. Called and said put it back. Was told be here before we close in 10 mins because I will not wait 20 for you to get there. Nice customer service. I'm lucky I saw them do it. Tires could have blown in a short period of time if I didn't se it. Beware!!!!!!!!! read more

Horrible Service. I went there to fix my flat tire. After they checked the tire, the manager said it is unable to be fixed, because the hole is too big. He tried to sell me new tires. I felt that I could fix the flat tire from someone else. I told them I can't afford new tires, they even tried to sell me used tires. I asked them to put my tire back, and then they put my spare tire instead and wouldn't give me back my flat tire. The manager said that they'd throw it away for me. I took my flat tire and fixed it from a honest mechanic for $10. I saved a couple of hundred dollars. Don't go this place. they'll rip you off!!!! read more

Today, I went to Purcell's Tire for the first time for a tire rotation. I have a 2003 Toyota that I've worked hard to take care of. When I was notified that my car was ready, I paid & went out to the garage to pick up my car. When I opened the door, I saw that there was grease smeared all over the fabric interior of the driver's side door, the seat, the lower interior portion of the driver side door, and the floor was black and smudged with grease. The fabric interior of my car is beige - so I was horrified by the mess. Over the course of 23 years, I've never had an auto shop damage my car like this. I immediately went inside and told Chris at the front desk what had happened & he said that he would take care of it. After 10 minutes of waiting, I went out to the garage and Chris & another mechanic were trying to clean the grease out of my car. Nervous that this situation might get worse, I stopped them & asked Chris if Purcell's would pay to have my car cleaned by a professional. I asked to get it in writing that they would rectify this situation. He said that he would call his boss to verify if this was ok. Purcell's offered to reimburse me for the cost to have the Driver's side of my car cleaned. Unfortunately, this means that I have to pay for this mess out of pocket & then hope that they reimburse me. Plus, Purcell's never reimbursed me for the cost of the rotation. This situation is extremely upsetting and stressful (to say the least). Due to financial constraints, I can't afford to get my car detailed. This situation never should have happened during a routine tire rotation. read more

I went to this location for the first time in February when my car wouldn't hold a surpentine belt. It turned out it was a radiator fan pulley which of course for my Isuzu was 375 just for the part. I left there only paying 475. They put so much time and effort into my car and they new my budget and they charged me less than 100 dollars for heavy labor. Recently I took my car back for servicing and I noticed oil spots under my car for several days. I called back and Terry got me in an hour before closing within a moment's notice. They not only tested my oil system for free but informed me the oil drain gasket was bad and fixed it for free. He said they felt bad for not noticing it before. It was such an honest mistake I couldn't believe how generous and honest he was. This is the absolute best place to take your car. They are caring, compassionate, and their expertise is unparallel. My vehicles will never see another shop. I am so grateful and thrilled to know that my mechanics are the best!! read more
