We purchased our chocolate Labrador puppy on 12/24/21, from the new Indianapolis location. I saw my baby and it was love at first sight! I was dismayed by the conditions he was kept in... a small glass cage with rubber flooring and he was covered in poop. Once the decision was made to bring him home they were sure to wash him real quick for us. Before leaving the dog store with our new puppy, I noticed the puppy had a slight cough. I pointed this out to the owner of the store and he gave us a bottle of amoxicillin to take home with us. 99% sure this guy is now a vet. During the buying process, the owner lied to me a couple times of where the puppy came from. He kept changing his story. It wasn't until another store assistant mentioned that this particular puppy was from the owners personal dog's litter. We saw red flags and should have followed our gut, but we fell in love with the puppy instantly. To our surprise this $1,800 puppy did not have any papers nor is he AKC registered! So they "kindly" dropped his price to $1,500. We were unable to get him into a vet until a week later due to the holidays. During this waiting time the puppy's health became progressively worse. His breathing became labored and heavy and the coughing was constant. We continued the amoxicillin and kept a humidifier on him at night. We brought him to the vet on January 4 to find out that he had severe pneumonia and a consolidated lung. We were told he would need a months long worth of heavy duty antibiotics and was warned the medicine can cause severe cartilage damage because he is so young. We were also told it would be possible that he may need his lung removed. The puppy also had giardia and the vet said his vaccine record made no sense. Relaying this message to the store they told us we could bring him back for a refund and at first seemed to be willing to help resolve the situation. He was our baby boy. There is no way I would hand him back to the conditions that they hold their puppies in. Nor would I return my baby dog to somebody who clearly has no concern or regard to his animals health. I sent him the vet bill for that visit and after a couple more visits the cost was about $1000 in vet bills for blood work and X-rays. I reached out to the puppy store to allow them to rectify the situation monetarily as they had previously offered. This is when they offered to give me a couple free bags of dog food for our troubles. Clearly this is not acceptable, for not only the monetary cost but also the emotional strain this had caused our family. (We just lost our 17 month old dog to chronic cystic kidney disease a month earlier) I messaged the owner rejecting his offer. The owner of the franchise has yet to reach out to rectify the situation fairly. I do not recommend anyone buying puppies from him. He is a weasel. He charges way too much; his vaccine records are questionable; he keeps some of these puppies isolated and laying in their own feces; he does not have proper papers on them and is selling sick dogs! This place needs to be investigated and shut down!

Such a wonderful place. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Wherever someone has a question they are always ready to give great advice. The store has a wide selection and smells like it is cleaned and sanitized frequently. The dogs are well taken care of and the staff is always on the look out for the dogs well being. I have seen them water and feed them throughout the day and the dogs are obviously played with and socalized as the pups are so loving. I have bought multiple dogs from them and will continue to purchase my animal needs from them. Miles is doing a great job setting the bar higher all the time. It is too bad we don't have one in my community but the hour drive from Kokomo is worth it..

My issue with Happiness is the initial conversion with the manager is she basically stated he's yours now. My puppy is 14 pounds 2 ounces and the average toy is 6-8 pounds. My baby is clearly double the size. I was told his paperwork says toy and that his size is due to genetics and they won't honor anything pertaining to him. All of his paperwork states AKC toy and that is what Happiness is standing behind. BEWARE

While the name is Happiness is Pets, they offer only puppies. This includes over 50 breeds, though my guess is there were about a dozen different breeds on-hand when I visited here in Indy. Happiness is Pets works with Purdue University's Canine Care Certified program, a certification program for care that goes beyond required national standards. Happiness is Pets notes that they do not use puppy brokers. Their breeders are all USDA approved and many are visited on a monthly basis by the company. All of their breeder's kennels are required to have direct access outdoor runs available to the puppies 24/7. These runs open up to larger social areas around 2500 square feet with their largest one being three acres. They have a strong emphasis on dogs that are socialized with other dogs and with humans. The vast majority of the dogs I saw today were purebred. In terms of accessibility, there's a ramp at the end of the sidewalk for this strip. It's right next to Happiness is Pets. The front door sticks a bit, though I could open it. The shop itself has a very open concept and is easily accessible. The cages weren't particularly great for interacting with the puppies - somewhat disappointing, though these are still puppies and learning. Each container was quite clean and well-kept. If anything, I'd say the shop was a bit sterile. Each puppy was named with a brief description offered of the breed and ideal situations for it. There were 1-2 employees working the floor and one behind the living areas doing a round of feeding. As this is not a shelter or rescue and many of these dogs are purebred, prices were typically for purebred puppies and ranged from a few hundred up to around $4,000. There were a handful that were on sale. I was greeted upon entry and offered help one other time. There's an obvious effort to project professionalism given that all employees wore scrubs. Happiness is Pets offers a 4-year health warranty on puppies along with a willingness to cover any vet care (using in-network providers) if an ailment surfaces within the first 30 days. You can also get a free wellness check-up within you and your puppy's first seven days. I liked an awful lot here, though found the selection leaned toward the family and trendy doodles and similar. I recall seeing a beagle, a French bulldog or two, one miniature dachshund, and maybe something else but I was struck by how many doodles were in the place. The employees were friendly, though as I was watching the employee feeding the puppies I was struck by the lack of interaction. I realize it's a job, but for a business that emphasizes socialization it seemed like feeding time would be a time when that happens. There was one puppy, in particular, who was incredibly excited to see this employee but the employee just quickly put the food in and turned around. I found the interaction weirdly lacking (especially when it was obvious a customer was watching). The containers/cages were definitely nicer than most pet shops and a tad larger than most. They also had some supplies on-hand. I didn't count how many puppies were present, but essentially it was two sides of the shop with rows of two on each side. Again, these are all puppies and not any full-grown dogs. There's I believe four individual areas right in the middle of the store that are ideal for human/puppy encounters. There's an awful lot to like here and an obvious effort to work against pet store stereotypes. However, there's also a lot of sterility here and the lack of interaction with dogs along with employees who don't seem to do so bothered me. All the dogs I saw looked healthy and for the most part were free to be either energetic or relatively chill, however, in a store with "happiness" in the title I suppose I expected a little more happy in the atmosphere. I'll likely return in a bit to get a better feel as they get settled. While I tend to agree with most that shelters and rescues are preferable, for those seeking a purebred this is certainly an option and there's a certain benefit to having a strong warranty. My favorites this time around? The beagle and the miniature dachshund, though a couple of the doodles did seem particularly interested in the wheelchair. It has been awhile since a more traditional pet shop owned up. It'll be interesting to see how the area responds. At the very least, check it out if you're in the Castleton area.

I purchased a large bird, a Green Wing Macaw from here $5,500…read more We would come up every week to visit during weaning (about an hour and half drive one way). Their expected lifespan is about 80. We breed birds, but not him, he was a pet, my pet, my baby. Last May I had to put him down due to a disease, PDD. This is spread through saliva and fecal matter, but since he was housed alone none of my other birds could have gotten it from him, thankfully! Our vet who informed us he probably got it during weaning from a breeder using one pipet between birds during hand feeding times. I spoke with Bird Fever's Vet, Dr. Dahlhausen, along with the vet Hei Hei was being seen at, Med Vet Hillsboro, OH, that recommended we put him down at the age of 3! This was a humane decision and I (and both of our vets stand by it) in-spite of how much it hurts me. Hei Hei was a good bird, but they wont provide a replacement bird, or even a refund on the price. I can't seek legal recourse due to the "warranty" only lasting a year, regarding the sale. We did our due diligence we did the autopsy after he was put down, we were broken and it took me time to stop crying to let them know what had happened, and finally to reach out and ask for a refund or replacement bird for the one who was ill. Bird Fever's response to me was devastating and rude! The Audacity to tell me it wasn't a death sentence, and my terms were out of date, in-spite of me getting information directly from not only my own vet but one who is theirs as well! Mind you PDD can lay dormant for years, and is often found in the first 5 years an infected bird can have this disease and only be a carrier. This means their aviary is infected with PDD. This is exactly what Bird Fever told me: "First, I am sorry to read that this happened. As for the health guarantee, it is not a lifetime guarantee. We guarantee the birds to be healthy and free of disease at the time of purchase. You took the bird to an avian vet when it went home, and the vet signed off that the bird was healthy and free of disease. If there was a problem we would have been notified, then. Once the bird leaves the store, we cannot control what happens to the bird or what it is exposed to. As far as PDD is concerned, I am concerned that you went to a vet that is not knowledgeable in regard to the disease. Your terminology is outdated and most of your statements about it are incorrect. PDD is an expression of avian ganglioneuritis, or AGN. AGN is a neurological condition that expresses itself in different ways with PDD being one of the ways. The unfortunate part is if it was PDD, it is very treatable and is no longer a death sentence like it was years ago. There is no test for PDD as the only way to confirm the diagnosis is through histopathology. The only way to do that in a living bird is a crop biopsy. Unfortunately, I can't write everything there is about PDD in a Facebook message. I will gladly talk to you about this, or I can refer you to our Veterinarian for more information."

I saw an item online (NOT through Petco advertising) that I was hoping they might carry. They didn't, but I found the other items on my shopping list. I'm quite impressed with the selection of cat food Petco offers. For the last several years, we've been purchasing it at our vet's office which isn't always convenient. So one of the reasons I walked into Petco was to do some quick research to see if I could find a comparable dry cat food and I did!
