This PetSmart always seems to be well-stocked on food, treats, and supplies. It's fun to browse the toy aisles, even though my dog definitely doesn't need more toys. Occasionally I can't resist when I find something new or unique. The employees are always super friendly, and it is easy to find someone if you have questions or need assistance. The grooming department has convenient hours and excellent groomers. I actually started coming to this location after following our groomer here from her former location.

My dogs are cocker spaniels - known for chronic ear infections. I have her ears treated constantly for this and never had a groomer turn us away before for this, or any other reason. I should note that the reason we tried PetSmart for grooming is because our regular grooming service was experiencing some staffing issues. Well we took our dogs home and I called the manager at PetSmart to complain about this situation. He agreed that an attempt should have been made to groom the cocker spaniel with the matted ears, and that the ear infection on the other dog may have been a judgement call, but he did offer for us to bring our dogs back to have them groomed at a 50% discount. I agreed and we scheduled that for a couple of weeks later. During those two weeks, we trimmed the matted ears on our own (did not take long) and continued treating the ear infection on the other dog. When we returned for our second appointment, the groomer accepted the dogs and said it would take about three to four hours (understandable). I had not even made it home from dropping the dogs off when I got a call that the dogs were ready to go home, and that they only partially groomed them both. They partially shaved one cocker spaniel but didn't finish her face and left three paws untouched. They told us "The one paw is all that she would let us do." She looks incredibly goofy. The other cocker spaniel (which we had previously trimmed the matted ears ourselves) looks even goofier. They said he has matting under his arms that they can't take care of. Took getting him hime I so find some very MINOR matting. It is nothing I can't cut out with a pair of scissors in about two minutes! Maybe had they groomed him the first time, that matting would not have been an issue. Now, keep in mind they only worked on my dogs for a half hour of what should have been a three to four hour session. They said nothing about him being matted in those areas during our first trip. Even so, isn't a groomer supposed to take care of such issues?! They went so far as to say that we need to take him to the vet to have the matting cut out. We have been dog owners all our lives and have NEVER been turned away by ANY groomer in the past for ANY reason! I called our vet and our regular groomer who both agree that this is just laziness on the part of PetsMart's grooming service. I have now scheduled them for grooming services with our regular groomer even though it will be a little while based on staffing issues. I will not name our regular groomer but they are very reputable in this area. They do a great job, and they shared with me that they are not surprised by our experience with PetSmart and that they have heard the same kinds of complaints from several others. Never again will we give this place a penny's worth of business. Stay away from this place and go somewhere else that actually cares about dogs and enjoys grooming them. This is pure laziness and incompetence.

The staff was ultra friendly and personable, and it felt as if our feline was going to be in good hands. I checked in several days ago; after they took my dog back, they needed more info. But first, other people walked in, and they dealt with them because "they didn't want a bunch of dogs in the lobby". Ok, but then it happened again, and again, and then a fourth time. 4 people came in after me and 4 left before me. I finally explained I had a plane to catch, and she took my info. On my return, I came to pick up my dog and was greeted with a frown and a very unfriendly demeanor (the receptionist did not appreciate the fact that I arrived exactly at opening time, I presume but due to delayed flights, I had just gotten home and hadn't slept for over 24 hours). Then, as I paid, I saw on the screen that I am expected to tip. NOPE. You fed my dog the food I gave you and took her out to potty a few times a day. I have no idea how you treated my dog, I only know I received her back stressed and hoarse, so I am guessing it wasn't stellar or worth a tip. I am NOT tipping for the basic service I am already paying for. I am done with everyone wanting a tip. If the company needs to pay their people better, then that is what they need to do. I won't be back. Get the whole tipping thing off of the payment screen!

Our dog got X-ray done and blood work. They sent a text with the plan for treatment and bill. We paid through the link sent. VEG offers snacks, drinks for waiting customers. The staff operated in a quick, professional manner and were able to help our pup out. They also sent all the information to our primary vet. We were stressed out , but they made the situation better and we are glad our pup is recovering well.

Unfortunately, once we met with the clinical staff, the interaction did not go well for our dog. Their approach seemed to increase his anxiety rather than help settle him, and the situation escalated to the point that I decided to leave without having him seen. I called another practice right away, explained that our dog is fearful at the vet and that we had just had a very difficult experience elsewhere, and they still agreed to see him. The difference in handling was significant. They spoke kindly to him throughout, got down on his level, used petting and treats to help distract and settle him, and had two team members participate in the exam. His anxiety diminished significantly, and he was able to receive treatment. Vet anxiety is a new experience for us, even as 30+ year pet owners. I'm sharing this because VEG has a good reputation and we have received good care with another pet. But owners of anxious or fearful dogs (or pets in pain who may not be acting like themselves) should ask detailed questions in advance about handling approach and comfort working with behaviorally challenging patients.

A week ago, one of them died from unknown causes. We attempted to have her examined, but the vet was unable to formally conclude a cause of death. Before this happened, it took the kittens months and months to adjust. We followed every rule/suggestion to a T. We researched to find adaptable and friendly cats because we have a large square footage house and kids. Our kids are respectful and sweet. However, only one of these kittens feels comfortable enough to get in your lap. And she died:( We would have gotten another type of cat if we knew these would not have an easily adjustable personality. We are devastated to have lost one of our babies. I wish I could return to this breeder, but it would not be in our best interest. I had a bad feeling after meeting the brother the kittens hadn't been in a stable environment. Already being 9 months old and him mentioned he moved from out of state recently at the time, they had and still have mannerisms of kittens from an unstable environment. We wish would have gone in a different direction. I voiced my concerns, but there was nothing they could offer to do. You are stuck with kittens, yes you do love and are committed to, but are not much like the nature of what ragamuffins bring to a family. Overall not happy.

Tia and Avery have both reached out several times checking on us and "Hopscotch". They had another cat that another family was coming from Kansas City to get that same weekend, so we agreed to pick up 2 cats and the family from Kansas City met us near our home in St. Louis and REALLY cut there trip down, and we were happy to do it! They were both a delight and fun to travel with. You can really tell they both were super well adjusted and friendly and litter box trained. Both SUPER sweet girls! We almost made an offer to keep them both! lolz I cannot stress more the wonderful experience we have had and continue to have in this experience! DO NOT BE CONCERNED BY OTHER REVIEWS. I AM CONVINCED THESE PEOPLE LOVE THEIR CATS AND WILL DO WHATEVER IS THE RIGHT THING! Does life happen? Do cats get sick and have complications from surgeries? ABSOLUTELY! BUT these unfortunate events are not as a result of neglect or mistreatment by the breeders. 5 minutes with one of their cats and you will know they are well taken care of and good natured because of their wonderful, kind and loving care from birth! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Tia and Avery and Velvet Muffins for doing what you do and being so kind and caring.
