Not a tourist trap by any means, but a spot frequented by tourists based off their English-friendly menus. I suspect this place became popular, and they're able to coast off their (Google Maps?) fame. As a result, I think the quality of food if aptly reflected. The waitstaff was one friendly guy taking orders and payment, and one guy in the back cooking. Pretty simple spot, not much seating, but fairly priced with decent food. The lunch special gets you a drink (standard apertif or non-alcoholic drink, specialty apertifs are extra), pasta, and a coffee. We started with a couple campari spritzes and a pear juice (the latter of which was quite good). For entrees we got the seafood pasta (decent amount of seafood given the price), and the squid ink pasta. Finished with three cappiucinos (sorry to the unsaid Italian cappiucino curfew). Don't expect a lavish set-up, but do expect a decent meal. If you're on a budget and only want to try squid ink pasta in once place, this is your spot. If you plan to sample other squid ink pastas, I'd say skip this place. read more

Not good at all. In Italy where amazing food is in abundance, this was the only actual bad meal I had in the 2 weeks I was there. Had the carbonara. It was flavorless. Service was also slow even by the laid back standards I experienced while in Italy. read more

Great hole-in-the-wall/ off the beaten path of Venice! We stayed near the tourist part of Venice (St Mark) and it was easily a 25 so min walk. Dinner is a fixed menu which includes- 1) drink (can be wine, Spritz, beer, etc.), pasta / or pizza listed, and 3) coffee or tea for a reasonable 15 euros! One interesting part - the menu is handwritten! Portions-- I decided on a seafood pasta which was more than enough. As for my significant other, he has a huge appetite so he needed to get some take out pizza after dinner lol. Couple of things I did like- 1) no fuss about giving bread / charging for bread! 2) no seating fee from what I am aware It seemed to have a decent wait, too and one party I met visited more than once during their stay! 15€ for an entree, beverage, and coffee..not bad at all. I loved both the squid ink pasta and seafood spaghetti, although I would prefer the seafood spaghetti. The seafood on top of the spaghetti didn't make it fishy at all, and was in fact one of the best seafood flavors I've tasted! Ended my meal perfectly with a cup of espresso, which definitely kept me energized for more hours of walking. read more

Terrible "restaurant." Paid $15 euro for a terrible pasta allá carbonara that had egg shells in it. Pasta was thin storebough crop. Dish was tasteless. All that could be tasted was plain pasta. Was clear tourist trap and fell for it. Don't fall for it. Other friend's dishes contained clearly store bought pasta and sauce. read more

We came on a rainy Christmas night. We were staying close by and kept passing by and thought it looked like a fun little bar/restaurant playing American rock/alternative music. It has a good vibe, like a neighborhood dive bar but nicer. The pizza is tasty and I thought the pizza + drink + caffe set for 15 euro was a reasonable deal. Loved this place. It was fairly quick which was perfect after a long day of exploring. They are accommodating to a plant based diet with many other offerings that looked delicious. If two people order the same thing, expect it to be served on the same plate. Don't be discouraged by this, it is more than enough! read more

Stumbled in here for dinner on my first night in Venice and was not disappointed. The two hosts were loooovely, very friendly and helpful and let us take our time eating and enjoying the ambience. Pasticceria Bar Puppa earned one of my very rare 1 star reviews. We stop in for a late afternoon glass of wine. They have a house red wine listed on their menu board for 2.5 EUR, so I ask for one. The counter person then says, sorry we don't have that out, we need to look for it. There's a long wait, while they pull out a ladder and climb up in the above-ceiling storage. Eventually, she comes over to the table to say they don't have that wine, but they found another red, would I like that, showing me the bottle. Okay. When it comes time to pay, I learn that the price of the wine was 5 EUR, twice the price of the wine originally ordered. It's not the sort of thing I'd argue about, but would they treat a local customer (notably, none were in the place during our visit) that way and expect return business? But that's what a tourist gets, who's not likely to come back anyway. And Puppa gets 1 star. read more

Thank you, TripAdvisor for bringing us here, trying to point you yelpers here as well! This is a small hole in the wall cafe aways from the hustle and bustle of San Marco, well worth the travel. I was looking for vegetarian risotto, as I had heard you can find good risotto in Venice, but obv much harder to find vegetarian versions. It certainly did not disappoint! The risotto is made for two people and comes out in giant platter/tray, was perfectly seasoned (not too rich or heavy at all!), with perfectly cooked bits of veggies throughout. Of course We also tried the vegetarian spaghetti which was also seasoned well, and was light but rich tasting. The korean waitress we met was so sweet and lovely to talk to! For an authentic (as far as we non-italians can tell!) meal, lovely service away from the main touristy areas, give this place a try. I will be dreaming about the vegetarian risotto! read more

I came here to get takeaway and they only let you get a set menu of pizza, drink, and coffee or pasta, drink, and coffee for €15. I said fine and chose spaghetti with clams and it took about 30 minutes, which isn't ideal for takeaway. When it finally came, the guy said he couldn't give me the coffee to take away and gave me a bottle of water instead. I was annoyed because he didn't say this to begin with and I already had a big bottle of water with me. When I asked if I could get a soda instead of the water, he said no and I didn't feel like making a scene so I paid, but he really just ripped me off and I should have walked out the door. The takeaway was a plastic plate with tin foil on top, not very secure at all. The spaghetti with clams was average. There are some minuscule clams in there and I had quite a few mouthfuls of sand. Very unpleasant. Would not go there again for food or service. read more

My wife and I stumbled upon the Pasticceria Bar Puppa recently when were in Venice, Italy. This is an authentic Venice cafe located near the Fundamente Nove area of the island and is delightful. The person who waited on us was very attentive and recommended several pasta dishes. Each dish was excellent and I could tell that he was very interested in us enjoying our meal and having a good time. When we went back on a second night he greeted us like we were old friends which was heart warming. The food and service at the Pasticceria Bar Puppa is excellent and the price is right. read more
