Ordered the first time and was pleased with both quality and quantity. Ordered second time and definitely disappointed over quantity. Flavor was delicious but our 2 orders of rice was a little less than half of what we received the first time. Also, after ordering 2 orders of chicken curry, we had same amount of chicken as we did in our 1 order of it the first time. Wasn't quite worth the price this time. In the past while dining in my total came out to $39 after taxes but not before tip. So I wrote out a tip for $5 on the receipt. Later when I got home, my total card charge came out to $49. I didn't think anything of it because if the shop is that petty to steal a couple dollars, they must need it more than me. Today I placed an order through Yelp and was told an estimated time of 30-40 minutes. That's fine, but an hour and 10 minutes had passed and I did not receive a call or notification that my order was ready. I went to pick it up just because it's been so long and the meals apparently dont come with rice when you take out? Only when you dine in do you get rice for the currys. Recently came here for a quick lunch and man was I pleasantly surprised. I have an affinity for Indian cuisine and have tried my fare share of restaurants in the past. This place is one of the best and now one of my favorite in the area. The customer service was great and the food was authentic and just plain delicious. I was pleasantly greeted upon arrival and was provided exceptional service by a lady and gentleman server. They were both very polite and attentive to my needs even though it was quite busy at the time. In terms of food, I had the spicy Chicken Tikka Masala along with some Naan, and was blown away by how good it was. The presentation was exceptional and the quality was superb. The food is amazing, and the sweets are too good to pass up. I have never been disappointed here and would recommend it over any Indian restaurant. You can't go wrong with the butter chicken, samosas, or chicken tikka masala. Here I know anything I try will be good. The sweets are addicting and now I have to leave with some every time I go. The quality of their rice is much better than I've had at other restaurants, and usually comes in a big portion with the meal. Garlic naan is amazing. The owner introduced himself the last time I was there and shook my hand. He sounded very involved in the Turlock community, and seemed interested in keeping customers happy. The Punjab Express is one of the best Indian food restaurant in the valley. They have quality and quantity for your buck. Everything is always perfectly cooked and the mango lassi is delicious, although they do seem to run out of that quiet often. Just their regular naan is so savory and fluffy. read more

My friend & I stumbled upon this place driving around looking for a place to eat while in between classes. We saw this small Indian restaurant, and being Indian ourselves, we decided to try it out. Walked in, while its in the nineties outside, this place has no air conditioning on. It felt kind of muggy in there. We think they were trying to save money on their energy bill because more than half of the lights were off. We took a look at the small to go folded menus and were ready to order and were told to walk to a dining table where a lady was sitting and place our order with her. We order the Chaat Papdi, Gol Gappe, Mango Lassi, and Aloo Tikki. The Mango Lassi came pretty fast in this cute decorative, brass mug. It was very well made. You could really taste the mango. Next, our Gol Gappe arrived. Just the water and the Gol Gappe...then 3 minutes later, the potatoes and garbanzo beans arrived. Weird. Just bring it all together. The Gol Gappe were not well made. The Gol Gappe crackers were completely stale which totally ruined it because that's the main part of this dish. There was barely any masala (spices) in the potatoes and garbanzo beans. After that my Papdi Chaat and my friend's Aloo Tikki arrived. We ordered the "Aloo Tikki"..."potato fritter with garbanzo bean curry" this is word for word from the menu. We only got two aloo tikkis. No garbanzo bean curry aka cholay. The Aloo Tikki was very well made. Most places don't make it crispy but this one did! And that is a good thing :) My Papdi Chaat was not very good. The Papdi was not the regular thin matri type. This was more like chinese wontons. Also, instead of having Imli chutney on it, it had some type of Mexican hot sauce which I found gross. Although the staff was nice, my friend and I were not impressed with this place. On a Friday afternoon at lunch time, this place was completely empty. No one was there besides us and we were there for an hour. Being Indian, we know what really good Indian food tastes like and the things we ate there were not good. We probably won't be coming back here again. Oh and I forgot to mention, they didn't have napkins. Yes napkins. I drive a brand new 2015 BMW X5 that I got a month ago & I don't want to get it dirty. Our first time at Punjab. The service was quick and friendly. We got the butter chicken and chicken vindaloo along with rice, daal, and garlic naan. Overall, the food was not spicy even though I ordered medium, but still good. I don't think we received medium. Price was very good since I used a groupon. I thought long about writing this review. I do not want to give out such bad reviews without reason. The food in this place is alright, nothing special, that's for sure. What really got me though was definitely the service. After I discovered that my order to go was missing a set of naan I told one of the men prepping my food. After he turned to the other men and discussed the situation in their native tongue he finally agreed to give me my 'extra' naan. What really got me though was the fact that when they told the young man, who took my order originally, that he missed a naan he had the audacity to tell me that I never ordered another naan and I was wrong. He claimed it over and over until my order was ready which made the mood pretty weird, to say the least, but it turned me off to thus place for sure. read more

A 2-item order took 40 minutes to be ready. I ordered butter chicken and bhindi masala (okra, onions, and spices). Sans rice, the order came out to $16. The butter chicken was as expected. I've never had bhindi masala before but will be skipping that since it didn't come dressed up in a sauce or anything; just a cup full of fried vegetables. Horrible service, when my boyfriend and I went here there was no one else in the restaurant. We were not greeted as we walked in, an employee just pointed us to a table from behind the register. The food is flavorful with delightful spices. I recommend the lamb curry. Although our visit was memorable, it probably is not the type of memory an establishment strives to accomplish. I can look past the meager design of the restaurant, with the corky cash register and sweets display in the back, the sub-par service and the waiter texting on a soapbox, but my ignorance extends only so far.
