Publix always has a good selection, but I try to only purchase things when they are buy one get one as this store is rather pricey. It's always clean, the staff is nice and it's 5 minutes from our house when there isn't a ton of traffic! A rarity! So let's make that about 40 minutes! read more

Went to Publix to get some chicken strips. I got there at 12:30 thinking the chicken would be ready. The gentleman that get the food for you rudely said it will be a half hour for the chicken strips. This Publix has a nice selection of items. I recently was surprised at the sale on frozen turkeys for Thanksgiving at about $0.30 a pound! ================= PREVIOUS REVIEW: The grocery story is fine (pretty standard). This review is more for the bakery. I ordered 4 custom platters for a big event to be picked up at 4:00 pm on a Friday. (The event was Saturday morning). I came at 5:00 pm on Friday to pick them up, giving the bakery ample time to get the orders ready. I had even talked to an assistant that morning in regards to getting everything correct on the order. At 5:00 pm, only one of my four platters was ready for pick up. They had the other three tickets, but had not made the items and "didn't know what happened." Although I wasn't charged for the remaining missing platters, I was very disappointed to not receive what I expected to receive. I had to scrounge around to get enough food for the event in time. Furthermore, after talking with other colleagues, this same exact experience happened to them, too. Do the morning shift and afternoon shift not communicate with each other in regards to what platters should be baked for custom orders?? read more

COVID-19 Review Update: Publix's crew is rockstar during hurricanes, so I wasn't surprised that the staff did a wonderful job during COVID-19. We visited for a shopping trip to stock up on some essentials for the week. Before COVID-19, it seemed like one of us visited this Publix almost every day. This is a busy location, and with people stocking up on essentials, Publix was out of a lot of items, especially meat and bread. The store can't do much about being out of meat, but they limited purchases to two packages of beef or chicken per person. Publix's bakery baked more bread to make up for the lack of sandwich bread on the shelf. While bakery bread isn't the same as shelved sandwich bread, they did what they could to make sure everyone had fresh bread for the week. I'm not much for reviewing grocery stores; there are too many variables. But about this Publix Super Market, I will say this. Not once in 3 years have I walked in and not been cheerfully greeted by someone. They almost always have what I need and if not, I've asked management to try to obtain it, and they have been able to add it to the shelf about 80% of time! To me that's pretty amazing. Finally, during this pandemic I have not once seen an employee without a mask. NOT once. They require masks of customers, offer hand sanitizer and remind everyone over the intercom that social distancing is required. Top 3 CDC picks. I feel comfortable shopping there, and pardon the cliche, but it's a pleasure. read more

This review is for one item and one alone, because they have lost their way. Forget the other premade sandwiches, they always aged like milk, but the Pub Sub Cuban sandwich, what's going on boys? Normally I give "my take on ___" a chance because you can always build a better mouse trap, but this is such an essential component of such a well established item, can't let it slide. Go to Miami and open a shop selling a Cubano that doesn't have mustard on it and see how well that goes over. read more

Publix is one of my go-to groceries. This one is more convenient than the Sam Rittenberg location. The shelves are fully stocked and organized. They carry brands you won't find at stores like Walmart. There's also a Carolina Local section. This location offers quality seafood and produce. The fried chicken from the deli area is soooo good. The associates are friendly and helpful. They have buy one, get one free deals all the time. read more

This store cannot ever seem to stay in stock on fried and rotisserie chickens. Was in Sunday the 18th around 3. Both fried and rotisserie were not available. A line of about 4 customers were waiting by the warmer for new products to come out. So was unable to purchase. In addition the containers of red skin potato salad was expired. Dated 8/15 on the 18th, still in the case for sale. They need to prepare better for Sunday demand on chicken and have it available. I ended up buying the chicken we needed at Lowe's Foods. read more

I love this Publix! Everyone who works here is super friendly, the produce is always fresh, and they always have pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. I had picked up a package of salami from the deli and when up to the meat counter to compare price, and the guy behind the deli counter helped me work out all the math (getting it cut straight from the deli counter is cheaper per ounce) and gave me samples to confirm that I liked it before I bought it. Deli manager at this location should be reviewed. Worst sub experience of my life twice in a row, I regret giving this location a second chance. I never know wether to order online or hop in the line because it's always different but when my sub is 25 minutes late and you have knocked out 2 lines of people since I have been standing here something is wrong. After I finally said something I was told it would be up shorty. 10 more minutes and I was rudely told mine was being made next as the manager clearly started on another person that had walked up 5 minutes prior. This Publix location at the corner of Main Rd and Hwy 17 is fantastic for homeowners on the south side of Charleston. The store is very clean and the staff here is very courteous and helpful. The Bakery is excellent, especially when it come to ordering specialty birthday cakes. I love this Deli because it has a great variety of Boar's Head Meats and Cheeses. The produce area is fantastic with a great variety of fruit and veggies. Overall this store hits the mark with convenience, cleanliness, and customer service!! read more

Public is great for 3 things: customer service, the bakery and sub sandwiches. The produce isn't always reliably fresh, prices are pretty high, and the atmosphere is pretty sterile. The pub subs are so goof they have their own name and the bakery is most of the time on par with and great local bakery. We ALWAYS get our birthday cakes and other bakery items from here and they are delicious. Mango key lime pie, coconut cake, cookies and verme cake, raspberry vanilla, I can go on and on. I became almost addicted to Publix when I lived on the other end of Johns Island and the Publix on another part of Savannah Highway was the closest. It was clean, bright and filled with cheery and helpful folks. This Publix has remained the same. About the only "dis" that I would give is that the lines in the deli can be long. Why? Well, because their chicken wings especially are good, really good, but the rest of their food in the deli and their made-to-order sandwiches are quite delicious. I was jumping in just to get an order of wings but filled up a handheld basket pretty quickly when I stumbled upon other foods on sale. Quick and out the door I went. Horrible service. If you have a complaint they will not take it serious. They talk to you in a condescending way just to get you to go away. They don't take complaint serious, and it felt like because I was a person of color. Jonah nor Kevin in customer service were kind or nice despite me asking them to talk to their staff of racially profiling. I wasn't mad, I was simply asking them to educate their staff because it's extremely rude and uncomfortable. Despite my kindness I wasn't taken serious or heard. I will no longer be going to this Publix because I shouldn't have to pay for bad services. Harris Teeter has always made me feel welcomed and kind. I appreciate that. read more

Issue with check out only two regular check-outs with two express - no one in express lots of chattering cashiers. Asked cashier if I could come through since there were no express customers. She said No. tPharmacy equally slow and lots of people behind counter yet slow service. Only redeeming feature here in terms of service is the deli counter. This is a wonderful Publix despite it's challenges. We moved about a year ago from West Ashley near the Cosgrove "north bridge" to live closer to this Publix and the manager here explained to me that he has much less square footage than the Publix near Cosgrove and significantly more customers- not a great combination. So, this store tends to feel a bit more frenzied than my other store but it generally has everything I need. read more

I have become very disappointed with this Publix. I used to say it was hands down the best grocery store in town. However, the customer service has gone downhill over the past couple years. The area where they have the most problems is the deli! There is always a problem with the deli. 1) I order the meat/cheese online, and it's not there/they "lost" the order. 2) I wait in line, and wait for unreasonable amounts of time, because they are filling orders from online! 3) I stand in line and wait, as there is no one available to help! Another area of concern: aisles being blocked by employees putting product out! Get the product out before the store opens when possible! (This is not a 24 hour store, so why not get people in early to stock?) The management has acknowledged that they have a problem in the deli, but I have yet to see resolution. The service at this Publix used to be flawless. A cashier recommended that I contact the corporate office (basically insinuating that the local management is ineffective and will not resolve the concerns. I really want this Publix to be like it used to be! If and when I hear back from the corporate office, I will update my review. read more

Hands down worst, absolute worse place to order a sub - recommend order online, then wait extra 30 minutes to come. BUT keep in mind they don't separate out the sandwiches so if you have more than one you might end up waiting in line anyway to get your missing sub, has happened to me on more than one occasion. I am a fan of Publix, for sure. This location is pretty top notch. They always have someone available to help you with anything you need, they are always stocked and everything is fresh. My only complaint is the cramped set up. Some locations are large/spread out. This particular one makes me feel a tad claustrophobic. When you walk in, the customer service counter is right there, surrounded by a clearance table, lots of cold cases and other various things including a holiday set up. It's just a lot all at once, especially when people are trying to get in, with their carts, around that area to the other spots in the store. read more

This is my go-to grocery store. I like the prices and set-up here and in the years I've been going I've never not being able to find what I needed. It's also a bright, clean and pleasant place to shop. I've been in dim, cramped, outdated grocery stores before it shopping like that is miserable. Now they have partnered with instacart to provide delivery and I was shocked to find they will deliver to John Island. We usually are the last to get delivery services. So I was extremely pleased about that. I tried the service and it worked really great but was a bit pricey. I don't think I'll do delivery regularly but I love that Publix provides the option in the case I was ever super sick, injured or couldn't easily leave the house for whatever reason. This option definitely gives Publix the edge over other grocery stores! read more

I came by here to get a sub and picked up two bags of grapes that I noticed was on sale at the front of the store. When I got to the cashier, the prices rang up different from what was advertised. I only really expected them to ring up the advertised price on the sign, but the cashier/manager(?) was great about honoring their price guarantee and ended up giving me the grapes for free. read more

I can only rate Publix a 3 star because while it is clean and the staff are nice, Publix is ridiculously overpriced! Bringing in coupons is really the only way to bring down prices to levels charged by other stores. For example, a cooked chicken at Publix is $8.00...at Kroger it's $5.99. And that's just one item. A weeks worth of groceries could end up costing you $40 more at Publix without coupons than any other store...especially Walmart, but not Harris Teeter which is just as expensive as Publix. I'd almost rather shop at Whole Foods just to save money instead of Publix. read more

I came here for one reason on the day that I checked in, and one reason alone. Pure Vermont Maple Syrup. It's not as easy to find as you would think at a typical grocery store. Most syrup you see is pancake syrup, which is not the real stuff, and you'd be scared if you read the ingredients list. Pure Vermont Maple Syrup has one ingredient ... Maple Syrup. I'm sure in the future I'll come back for more items that are sold here, but for now I'm a fan because they carry this one very important item. read more

I used to LOVE this Publix location (great deli products, great service, great selection), but on my past three trips to the store I've noticed SEVERAL people openly not wearing masks during the COVID pandemic. I've spoken to management twice and have been told that in spite of COVID cases surging here in the area that given the "sensitivity" around masks, their policy is to not directly approach anyone not wearing a mask and to still allow them inside the store to shop. This is crazy and frankly unacceptable. There's a city-wide mandate in Charleston county to wear a mask inside stores and their willingness to cow-tow to a few unruly customers constitutes a public health issue for the majority of their other customers and employees. If Total Wine and Costco can enforce a mask mandate for the safety of their customers and employees why can't they? Unfortunately I'll no longer be going to Publix and have to trek to Whole Foods who do care about customer safety. read more

I've lived in CHS about 2 years now and have been generally disappointed with supermarket shopping experiences. Stopped by this Publix in West Ashley and was completely blown away. The staff were cheerful and engaged and at least two of them asked if they could help me find anything specifically. Great service, great set up. 11/10. read more
