When I tell people back home in Arizona I'm going to Florida for work, one of the places they mention I need to go is Publix. Even the local coworkers mentioned the bakery and sandwiches. I really have been enjoying the great value that we have been finding at Publix. This venue is clean, organized, well lit, and easy to maneuver. I appreciate the BOGO sales and the variety of products. The deli department is super cool. There's a lot to choice from like hot and ready food, salads to go (don't forget the dressing), and wonder selection of cold cuts. They even have pizza dough!!! Only Publix I've been to in 2023/2024 that doesn't have a self checkout... Whaaaa.... Options are quite limited compared to other locations for hot food. They also did not have the garlic pickles for the sub order. Checkout is quick since they have many lanes open. There's two express lanes. I always go to this public to get money orders the first of the month. I didn't see it posted anywhere yesterday but I believe they're .99. I use to go to shady corner store who would charge me $1.29 to $1.99 for my money order. It's clean and convenient and I love their hot complimentary coffee while I wait in line. I also saw the portable heath system in the side to check your blood pressure and BMI. The first time it said my bp was severely high. I removed my sweatshirt and reset the options. When I'm looking for organic or brand names I can't get in another regular grocery store or supercenter I come to this Publix. I used to not be a Publix shopper because I felt the prices were a bit higher compared to the other stores but quality will always win out. It doesn't matter when I visit they are always busy, and don't let a hurricane watch be in effect. The first things to go will be the lanterns, water, portable radios, and a ton of alcohol. The customer service is excellent and I never have a problem finding anything but I think that's more because I use their app which will tell you what aisle your item is on. It's very rare that I come to this Publix market, but when I do I am always impressed with the staff, the beauty of how it's merchandise and the overall feel of being welcome once you enter. Why should today be any different? It wasn't. Still the best service in the business. This night, I was planning to be brief by grabbing some delicious goodies from the deli, then home to shelter myself from a rainy cold evening with comfort food. In Publix, the deli has the best smell of their southern fried chicken and other fixings. I let my nose lead me to the culprit but first the BOGO bin. I purchased Progresso soup as rainy weather warrants soup and grilled cheese. I grabbed 4 different selections for the weekend. Oh joy! Now to stay focused to the deli. Ok, another stop at the bakery on my way to the deli (all these squirrels grabbing my attention lol). I didn't buy that Key Lime pie calling my name. I resisted and won! The guy was cheerful and had a Forrest Gump wave and smile while asking if I needed assistance to just let him know. I told him I'm resisting and the desserts are evil and calling my name. He chuckled. Finally, I arrived at the deli. Danielle was the best. She made effective small talk of interest while selecting my two lbs of tenders, some onion rings and ensuring I satisfied before leaving her counter. I thanked her for her courtesy and grabbed some potato salad from the cooler bin and headed toward the check out. Emily welcomed me and bagged my goods appropriately, gave me the total, handed me the receipt and wished me a pleasant night. This was a pleasure. The store was visually appealing and the floor clear from debris and moisture as it was raining pretty steady outside. I've only been to this Publix once or twice, as I'm not commonly in the area. This time I was nearby and decided to pick up a pub sub since it was lunchtime and it sounded like a better alternative to fast food. The guy and girl behind the sub counter were both young and seemed to be trying to rush us to get back to their playing/flirting. They'd get annoyed if we had to have them repeat themselves (it was loud) or if we took a second to make our mind up about adding toppings. I am maternally possessive of this Publix because the staff treats me like a queen and takes such good care of me! He has magic Sub making hands! My FAVORITE sub from Publix is their "Chicken Tender Sub!" We get it with honey mustard, provolone, lettuce, bell peppers, and a generous heaping of their fresh and CRUNCHY chicken tenders! It's amazing! Another sub that's out of this world is their "Turkey Cranberry Holiday Sub." It's loaded with Boar's Head® Ovengold turkey breast, Bacon, Hickory-smoked Gruyère, tangy-sweet cranberry-orange relish, and mayonnaise. It is AMAZING and I cannot wait till November next year when I can try it again! The Cashiers who check you out are always super sweet and efficient. Now that I am quite obvious with child, the Baggers always say to me without missing a beat, "Let me help you out to your car" as soon as I pay. Before the pregnancy I'd be too shy to let someone go that extra mile to help---but now I am SO GRATEFUL for the extra assistance to the car for my weekly trip of groceries. The only reason I give it four stars is I think Publix is one of the more expensive grocery stores. Publix was great, however, they messed up big time for me at the bakery department. I had a cousin's baby shower and I ended up in charge of ordering the cake. A few days before the party, I stopped by this publix (closer to the party location), to order the cake. One of the decorators were there to take the order. The cake was a 1/2 sheet with a jungle/safari theme on it and I had a printout of how I wanted it to look like. I asked the decorator if it was possible to draw out the animals instead of printing it out. She said "yes it's doable" and she added some suggestions and I really liked it. I got pretty excited and was happy that it was something they were able to do. She made clear instructions on the order form to DRAW animals and trees and have it close to the the printout as possible. I had my hopes up. On the day of the party, the cake was not how it was instructed to be. They had it like 30% correct and everything else was completely wrong! The trees and airbrushed giraffe spots where good, but the animals and message were not. They wrote the message on the front side and actually printed out the animals, cut out, and laid it on there. Let me remind you that the decorator wrote "draw animals", not print animals. Spoke with the department manager and what happened was no one was experienced enough to hand draw the animals except the decorator who I spoke to a few days ago, so they decided to just print out the animals. I was upset and disappointed on how this was handled. I felt embarrassed that I'm going to present a cake that looked like "crap". The only things done correctly were the trees, grass and airbrushed spots. The manager tried to give some options like doing a quick reprint, but they already made crease lines on my copy. My fiancé asked if we can quickly email it to them and she said they do not have an email. So there's nothing that can be done to fix it. Overall, the department Manager didn't charge the cake. That's fine, but it was just upsetting that I was excited that they were really going to do a great job but the outcome was bad. I had my hopes up and it was too good to be true. Just like they say, "don't promise something you can't keep". Even some of the employees at the check-out weren't happy about it. :( Other than the issue, the whole store was great though, everything stocked well and the deli area was fine. Grabbed a few to-go chicken and potato wedges. It's going to be a while before I trust this publix again... Note: if you would like to see the cake, please message me. They request that you bring in an idea of what you want, so make sure you have that with you before you make the order. Widely spaced aisles, big open areas allow for cart maneuvering. It's something that Whole Foods and others don't seem to get. Beer selection here was pretty decent - it is nice to see them make a strong push for local Jacksonville craft breweries. Without hesitation Donna offered to call the Deerwood publix to see if they had any in stock. According to Google Maps this location is the closest to where I live now so I find myself popping in pretty regularly. There are bigger locations and there are smaller ones but this one seems to be just right. Somehow even on a Saturday morning when it's busy, parking never seems to be too bad. I've never had a bad experience at this location; I find it to be a pretty typical Publix with a friendly staff, clean store, and lots of BOGO deals. While I eat meat, I get very weirded out by buying raw meat to cook and I usually stick to Publix because their meat department is always clean and I feel confident about the quality of what I'm buying. Because I'm usually cooking for one (or attempting to cook for one), I find their packaged items to be way more than I can eat over the course of a week and they're really great about repackaging items to whatever size requested. Whenever I take a peak, they seem to have a nice selection in their sushi case (though if you want sushi and can help it, you should really check out one of the many sushi restaurants nearby). If I needed to grab something on my lunch break, or we were having a last minute celebration in the office, Publix had everything we needed. The staff at any Publix I ever go into is always super pleasant and this one isn't any different. This location is one of the older/smaller models but it works perfect for this corner. This publix is nice. My experience with the bakery is okay only because they are always out of coconut custard pies and a few other favorites. My other problem with the bakery is that the one time I went in to buy red icing the lady assured me it would get darker after about an hour, I believed her because this is usually the case and an hour later I still had a nasty salmon color red. Yuck! I had to go back and have her fix it, and she gave me attitude. No thanks! The deli here is amazing! When I get off work in the morning I'll come here to get chicken tenders or deli meat and it's great how nice they are at 745 am. It's nice not being judged for buying a pound of fresh chicken tenders so early in the day lol :-) the rest of the store is clean and well organized and always well stocked.
