This place is a disaster.! I only got this place about two months ago and didn't know I had a time limit to put items in my unit. My bill was paid on time but the 2 to 3 times I went up there to put something in my facility. I could not get in the door because the sliding doors were malfunctioning, and every other door was locked and I could not get into the customer service area staff is nice. I will strongly recommend that you find somewhere else to do business with when you need storage. I feel bad for saying this, because the two young ladies that I work with or professional and nice but overall business of this facility absolutely sucks I still have not heard back from them as to why my account was close For not having anything in there quick enough, but they still got their money. Public Storage just might be one of the worst - If not THE worst - run companies in America. I'm not exaggerating. my year of renting from them has been hell. from the moment I signed a contract until I recently vacated my rental space. I am so glad to be done with these people and this company that I am probably going to throw a party, just for that alone. They have mixed my unit up with another unit, charged me the wrong amount, locked me out of my unit, had no way to get me into my unit because the stairs were locked, and the elevator was out of order, and they have hired a few incompetent people. I would never recommend Public Storage to anyone I care about. But if I don't like you, I think you should go there and put all of your things in storage and leave them there for all eternity. This is a disturbing and disgusting experience! First the original representative that set up my reservation was only concerned with getting a new customer. I explained to her I wasn't 100% sure what size unit I would need so she assured me that if I needed to change units it would be simple.It was not. It was a ridiculous hassle! after paying $200 for my unit, They tried to charge me an additional $150. Then told me I have to pay the same amount again on the 1st which is a week away. What happened to prorated charges? The worst part is, after changing my unit from the first to second floors, they didn't have ANY carts to help us move our items to the unit! This is the worse! Today I noticed that my personal lock on my storage was gone and a "public storage" lock was on the door. The ladies at the front desk said that this has been a constant issue over the last 3-4 weeks. Someone is breaking into units and replacing the locks with "public storage" locks. We were NOT notified of these incidents. We had to call the police and tried to remove the lock ourselves because they had NO ONE available to give us access to our property! It took 8 hours for someone to come and remove the lock. Over half of our items were stolen! Other units were broken into as well. Please avoid at all costs! read more

Horror upon Horror! I am not sure where to begin. Should I start where I was locked in behind the gate, with my professional mover who helped unload my belongings into my unit? This was on a freezing winter night, I called customer service and was asked for my driver's license number. I provided my driver's license number but whoever copied it copied it wrong... My phone had 9% power because I was unpacking all day and did not charge it, but I was told to call the non-emergency police so they can let me out. Or should I start with the lock that I was forced to purchase for $20? Even though I told customer service that I had my own lock from another public storage facility, none of my complaints or phone calls could be found in their system. It figures. Should I talk about there $15 a month Insurance? Even though on one of the not less than three times I complained about being forced to have this lock that I don't want, I will still billed for the insurance. I did manage to go online and cancel their insurance. I had to do this because, as I mentioned, none of my phone calls or complaints could be found in their system. Again, it figures. And if you want to get a good laugh, call customer service at the location of Southfield on Telegraph. The 'Relief Manager' who answered the phone is snippy and curt. She speaks in the breathless hurry to ensure you know you are wasting her time. I'm new to the storage unit, so my review might change later. Let's hope so. read more

Well someone is using my name to rent a storage at the Telegraph location in Southfield. When I called to see why I have another unit in my name they acted as if as if I forgot that I had 2 storage units. Wouldnt give me any information, and lacked empathy for the situation. Even when the call was escalated that rep just tried to get me off the phone. I'll be getting my things from the location that I rented from as soon as possible. Terrible service! read more

Just had the most insane customer experience of my life here. I had started a reservation online; however, I didn't want the insurance for $15/mo offered during the online leasing process. I had discussed this with reservations and was told this is fine and I can come in to sign my documents. I arrived to complete a reservation at 12:40 pm. A sign on the door said manager would be back at 12:30. I waited 12 min then called the reservation desk. I was told that the manager is on site and to call and leave a voicemail and she will likely be right out. At 1:12 pm, the manager drove up carrying fast food and unlocked the door. I followed her in and this was our conversation: Me: Hi, I'd like to complete a reservation. Her: I don't even know what that means but ok. Me: I started a reservation online and I don't want the $15/mo insurance coverage so I was told to come sign my documents in person. Her: Well you have to have the insurance coverage. Me: You can just cancel it. Her: What's your name? Me: Tells her my name and walks out. This woman was practically snarling at me. Her facial expression, tone of voice, and zero willingness to help were shocking. I don't think this is the person for a people facing job. I did follow up with reservations to make sure all was cancelled. They told me it had been cancelled, so apparently she did know what a reservation was. Unreal. I'm going with a competitor and I'm glad to pay slightly more just to never interact with her again. Competitor also has no issue with me using homeowners insurance and opting out of a needless $15 a month insurance fee. Avoid, avoid, avoid. read more

I would never recommend this location. I've had the unit for 4 years and my whole house was stolen. On November 27th I received a call to put my own lock on the unit, if I didn't I would not be able to gain access to the unit. That following Saturday when I got there I could not get in, they had put a whole different lock on and the latch for the lock had been replaced. The next day they call and asked if I was going to come put my own lock on. When I got there to put my lock on so they could take theirs off, first she had to go next door to get the key. When she opened the unit, everything I owned was taken even sensitive tax information. The only thing they could offer was to file a claim and to not go up on my rent. Once I filed the claim the date of lost was quoted on their end September 19th. Meaning they already knew and was charging me rent. By the way when I initially received the call on November 27th they never mentioned my items were stolen. read more

My unit has has a door that cannot be opened fully. As a result, I'm unable to remove my truck. Public Storage was notified that the door was defective 6 months ago and still have not repaired it. They were given a key when I reported it so they either have not attempted the repair, or lost my key. Meanwhile someone at corporate thought it would be wise to get on the inflation bandwagon and raise rent by 25%. This company has horrible service, defective property, and ridiculous pricing. The unit price was just raised to $369 a month for an unheated 10x20 unit. I would never recommend them. read more

I will never rent from this place again. They suck you in with a $1 for the first month and after 5 or 6 months they raise my rent by $20. They only give you till the 6th of the month to pay before tacking on another $20 in late fees which is stupid, because it should at least fall on a payday like the first Friday of the month. There is never a cart at this location to load your stuff after hours so if you are hard headed enough to still come here after reading this, make sure you bring your own dolly or cart. If you come during business hours you have to give the front desk your ID in order to get a cart - which must mean people have been stealing here. There is a dude here that looks like he might live here part time so be on the lookout for him if you come here as well. I should have known when I signed up and there was an older woman there that day complaining about the rates and everything I just mentioned, that this might not be a good move, and I was right. Moving out of desperation costs and Public Storage, so far, is a ripoff. I am completely dissatisfied, and I can't wait to be done with these con artists. Update: Dan, the manager for this location reached out to me after reading this review and did try to make things right. He did offer me a small credit on my next bill and that speaks in volume to someone who is watching every dime right now. He explained that the rental raise was a "corporate" decision and there wasn't much he could do. I appreciate the effort in trying to help me out which shows someone does care at some level. read more

From her initial point of contact (via telephone confirmation - call) to the signing of my contract and move-in date, Amber displayed such a professional and welcoming demeanor. She was also very informative and helpful throughout my move. Can't thank her enough for being so kind, considerate, and understanding during my major transition. This is my first and last time using this company for storage. Moving items have been an added stress, because this location have only one dolly/moving cart for all they're customers to use. the dolly/moving cart is not left in the back so you can load or unload items. Customers have to go to the front desk to grab the one dolly/moving cart and to do so the customer have to leave an I.D. I have rented at storage facilities before and never had this issue. If you wanted to load/ unload your items after 6pm, the one dolly/moving cart is locked up. This is a big inconvenience. My advice to future customers is to go check out the Storage Facility first, before any money is place down on the unit. This company offer for potential customers to do everything online for a convenience and I feel like I was tricked. when I made the purchase online the representative insured me my storage location was going to originally be at the location on greenfield & 8 mile in oak park, MI. When I was ready to start moving items into the location of my choice is when I found out the representative put my information at another location. I wouldn't give a star if that was an option. I signed up for a storage unit during the shut down in November, over the phone, paid and went to my unit where a lock was waiting on me. Fast forward, February, I missed a payment... I paid early March, get back in to the gate, but my units locked with a PS lock.. i looked and called for a representative for three days straight. After the third day I finally got ahold of someone, she cut the lock off, I put my lock on and left because my ride was in a rush. Before I left I said to my ride, "it looks empty in there, I didn't know they can auction yo stuff that fast". The next day I returned to make sure I wasn't tripping. I get there to see everything valuable of mines was taken. And I wasn't tripping. I then tried to reach back to the front office where nobody was, AS USUAL. I then reach out to customer service; "I asked do they auction your belongings that fast (after one missed payment)." I was informed that they don't, so I asked what to do and she said to call the police. I asked her what could the police do if y'all was the ones so called storing my belongings, WITH YALL LOCK ON IT. Then, I got ahold of the manager Daniel and boy was he no help either. They let me know that I wasn't signed up for insurance on my unit. & it was only $2. Then sent me a picture of my unit SUPPOSEDLY BEFORE THEY CUT MY LOCK, with EVERYTHING ALREADY GONE. I wouldn't trust this company at all anymore. They full of shit. I feel like they took my shit just cause they knew I ain't have insurance on my unit. read more

This Public Storage location has the worst customer service at the counter that I have seen in a long time and she claims to be the manager. My door on my unit was broken for a whole month and all they gave me was excuse after excuse. Amber needs some training as she obviously does not understand basic customer service and whenever I stop in the office for anything she is always either on the phone arguing with someone or arguing with someone in person. read more

This storage facility raises the storage fees every few months. I am paying almost 300.00 per month and started off with a payment of 194.00 per month. This storage facility is milking the public of money and gives no explanation of the rent increase. As soon as I can get things in order for myself I will never use them again. read more
