If I could give less than one star, I would! We have been using them for almost a year. The walls in my unit are wet and many of my items have mold on them now. And everything that was in that large climate controlled unit are exposed to mold spores. I have to now wipe and clean everything. my unit has lacked climate control many times and after repeated calls, no one returned my call. When the climate control was repaired one of the times, I did get a phone call from someone telling me that the heat was turned on by accident! When I explained to her the issues I was having in my unit with mold and dampness and that boxes were collapsing because of it, she told me that does not happen to cardboard boxes and she told me I was an ungrateful customer and she hung up on me. That lady needs an education! Do not use public storage! Even the local property manager does not call you back. It should be the property manager's job to check and be sure that the AC unit is working every single day for those they are collecting money on climate controlled rentals. read more

I have mixed feelings about Public Storage in Raleigh (Glenwood Ave). The first meeting was great with a price of about $150 per month for a 20 x 10 feet climate controlled box. Space was clean and easy to access. Quickly the price was bumped to $250 a month (after the 6 months of honeymoon). 3 Months later another bump to $330 per month. That is a $180 increase in 9 months (December 2024 to September 2025). I just wish my income would follow the same trends. Clearly, they don't want you to stay and will squeeze you until you leave. That is too bad as I am storing mostly books and Models that will not rot or attract any pests. When I move out, I wish them someone who will store nasty and dirty stuff. They truly deserve it. read more

Had a great experience with the move-in and the easy access of the storage unit. The place is relatively clean and in a fairly good location. During my time there, for about 1 year and 9 months, my rates went up twice on my 10'x10' unit. First from $96 to $126 (32%) in less than 6 months, and again from $126 to $166 (another 32%, 73% increase in total) in the next 9 months. No notice. Of course, I wasn't able to move my things right away and they count on it. Don't expect to keep the offer they give you at the start. Look for more locally owned storage units, they are more likely to treat you fairly. read more

The front office door is always locked, and staff is never accessible. Even if the stars line up and end up running into a staff member, they are very unfriendly and act as if you're placing a huge inconvenience on them. In addition, their bathrooms are always locked except for one instance where I was able to walk in, and it seemed like a homeless person has made a home to themselves inside. One time, I really needed to use the bathroom, I had to drive off to a nearby gas station during midday heavy traffic. It's just been a terrible experience all around dealing with this business. Avoid this location. They just increased monthly rates by 40 bucks when I am already overpaying for a "climate-controlled" unit that isn't actually climate-controlled. Just got off the phone with the GM (his name was Kendal). I have been a renter here for 3 years and recently moved my belongings into a storage building on some land for the cost of 1 year's rent at Public Storage. When I first moved in the rent was around 80-90/month and has recently been raised to $130/month for a 10x10 unit. This is quite pricey given the numerous options just a slight drive from this area. Needless to say when I asked Kendal for a partial refund on the remainder of my last months lease (since I moved out 6 days into it after flying down to Raleigh from NY) I was not being offered anything. I'd strongly consider looking elsewhere for storage as it is a very competitive market and searching just outside the Raleigh area like Garner, Sanford or Fuquay you will find plenty of other nearly equivalent options for storage at a lower cost. I'll never use Public Storage again but will give one of the other fine establishments a chance to satisfy my storage needs in the future. I'll also be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau and writing a letter to Kendal's manager. read more

This afternoon my family, my roommate and I had an appalling experience with Public Storage at 8733 Glenwood Avenue, specifically with an employee named Antonio who was rude and xenophobic/racist/verbally abusive to my family. My roommate and I rent a storage unit at this location. We had some issues with the unit that we needed to address with the office staff. Their stated business hours are Mon- Fri 9:30am to 6pm, with a closure between 1:30pm and 2pm. My mother and I arrived at the storage location at 3:10pm. No one was in the office, but there was a sign on the door saying that the staff would be back at 3:30 pm (it's a sign with a clock on it, hands turned to 3:30pm). My mom and I waited until 4pm and no one returned during that time. I left a voicemail saying that we had been waiting, no one had come in, could someone give us a call back. I received a call from Antonio at around 10 minutes past 4pm. He was rude from the moment that he answered the phone, insisting that the sign said 4:30 and that he takes his lunch from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, that I can't tell the time etc. He hung up the phone on me. I, being pretty irate at first waiting so long and then being spoken to so rudely, asked my roommate to go back to take care of things. My sister and my mom went with her. Antonio decided to make an already bad situation worse. My mom said to him that she was pretty unhappy at the long wait due to the discrepancy between the time on the sign and when he returned. He told her that the sign had said 4:30pm, she told him that she was there with me, had seen it and it said 3:30. Antonio asked her to leave because "you people think you're better than Americans" and "you're lucky to even be in this country". My sister was asked to leave as well, even though she said nothing. He held the door open for my roommate and my sister and let it shut on my mother. This is so unacceptable. Public Storage will not see another cent of my money if I can help it. read more

Nice people at the desk. They were very nice and helpful. Actual storage unit is ok. I saw a couple roaches in the hallways while walking around, but they were dead. Gate hours could be a little later. Automatic lighting would be helpful. You have to go turn on the light switch yourself if it is dark on your hallway when you go. Good location off Glenwood, but very dark in the parking lot at night. Scary to be there at night by yourself. The price was right, and I won't be in there too long, so it will do for now! read more

I spoke with the manager and another employee there about filing a claim for my stuff being ruined. Both said they would call back and it has been over a week. So then I call the regional manager and leave two messages at his office and no response. So I then call his cell and get some girl that is rude and tells me "wrong person" repeatedly when I ask for him. I verify the phone number and she says it is correct and will not say anything else but "wrong person". WTF??!!! So I call back the facility and someone that is working at that location for just that day tells me I have no insurance because when my payment was late two years ago and as a result my insurance was terminated. Excuse me? I never received a notice and you said it is required to have insurance, so why wasn't I notified? read more

There is a reason this facility gets bad reviews. The customer service is extremely poor. I told the manager that the exiting keypad (which looked like someone took a bat to it) was not working and in order to get out I would have to get out of my car walk through the pedestrian gate to put the number in the entrance keypad so I could get my car out. I spoke to others who were renting there and they were having the same problem. The manager told me I didn't know how to use the key pad and that you have to use your knuckle to punch in the numbers. I wanted to take her and show her but she refused to go. A few days later I returned and it looked like someone tired to fix it with black tape but it still didn't work. I went to the office again and she told me it was fixed and I didn't know what I was doing and to take it up with "cooperate". Well needless to say I pulled my stuff out and went to a cleaner and friendly place. I may be paying a little more but the service is excellent. Remember you get what you pay for. read more

The $1/first month rate isn't entirely accurate. You don't find out til you get there that you are required to purchase THEIR lock for $20 and also purchase insurance, minimum $11/month, both are mandatory to rent their unit. I was told about the lock only after I was shown the unit and had filled out some paperwork. I was told about the insurance while finalizing the paperwork. The gentleman who handled my transaction talked so fast it was hard to understand him, as if he just wanted to get this over with. There was no problem with the facility or the unit itself. They do provide dollies and hand trucks and the elevators are roomy. They also called to remind me when a payment was due to avoid late fees, which are pretty hefty. I just did not care for the surprise charges when signing up for a unit, I would not say to avoid Public Storage just be warned you will be paying more than they advertise. read more

Stay away!!!!! First, they raised the rent $30/month after 4 months of on time payment, just because they are greedy!! 2nd, they tried to bill me for additional days after I moved out! The units are not sealed well and we had all types of bugs in our unit (outdoor) and some furniture, wood furniture, actually molded!! Was in there for about a year. Have you ever seen wood mold? This facility was fine a few years ago when originally renting a "climate controlled" unit. Since, the price has doubled but even that is not driving the 1 rating.. The temperature, previously well maintained, is now 80 degrees and there is zero control of humidity. There is now MOLD growing on my items in the unit and Public Storage seems to think that is acceptable. Was told by person on site that they can't do anything about it. read more

I stored my things here last summer as I was in the process of moving to the Triangle area, and was very pleased with my experience. The staff was friendly and helpful, though of course they did try to get me to rent a larger unit than I actually needed. I was a little nervous to rent here because I had previously had a terrible experience with Public Storage in Houston, Texas, but I had no issues with this location. The units were clean and they provided dollies and nice elevators to move my things. Though a little pricier than some other storage locations in the area, this storage space suited my needs and I would recommend it. read more

A storage unit is a storage unit, right? Nope. I've had TERRIBLE experiences with storage units in the past (everything from scandalous rate policies, to outright theft and fraud) so I came into this situation pretty jaded. While the phone-based support team was only marginally helpful, I found that the in-person service was top notch. I had a fairly complicated situation to work with when I showed up a couple hours before my flight home to arrange for storage for my household goods coming all the way from California, and not only did Bryan help me sort out the multiple reservations I had inadvertently booked, but honored my online quote and SUPER efficiently helped me set everything up so that when my goods arrived a couple weeks later (without me being there) everything went down smoothly. He helped me select just the right size unit and while the rates are a little higher than some other locations in the area, it's not egregious and a small price to pay for the quality service I received. Can't thank Bryan enough for helping me out - it easily could have been a nightmare, but instead was a pleasant and easy process. If you've got storage needs, stop by and talk to Bryan. Stay away!! If you have personal items that you need "climate controlled" storage , this is NOT THE PLACE.. They control the climate with fans and "Damp Rid". We had items in a rented garage that came out perfectly fine through our very hot and humid summer. The furniture, clothing and personal items had ugly mold and smelled foully as our movers were taking our goods out of storage to our new home. We moved our goods into strage on June 12 and took them out on October 17 On moving day, 10/17, our movers, with myself present, began taking furniture out of our unit & noticed mold covering most all of our wood surfaces. My husband immediately took a few pictures and went to the office. He was given a brochure for the insurance company and the number to call was noted to start the claim process. The majority of our furnishings were wrapped in blankets and "saran wrap". When these pieces were unwrapped, mold was noticed and pictures taken. The situation got worse as we opened boxes and had to throw away anything wicker or porous i.e. all pillows and upholstered items. Clothing items in storage all required laundering as there was a distinct mildew odor. Dry clean only items, including leather and suede coats and jackets required cleaning to kill the odor and/or get rid of the mold. To date, we have had to pay junk removal ($150) to take away 2 couches, a loveseat, 3 bar stools, and an entertainment center. We were also advised that in order to get a professional mold cleaning crew in we would have to pay $500. for a lab team to come in and test for the mold type and air quality. We received the report from the lab on 10/23 with a complete analysis. In bold print was the following statement. "Due to the elevated fungal spore counts, it is recommended that respiratory protection be worn while occupying the structure." At that point, we realized our health had been compromised. We secured a mold removing company that cleaned all of the hard surfaces as recommended buy the lab. We paid them $600. We are now in the process of trying to replace some of the lost furniture . Public Storage will not take any responsibility because in the contract in small print it says they don't cover mold. The insurer only covers up to $250. with a $100 deductible. We had renters insurance as well and they only cover perils. Our major problem with that is who would expect mold if indeed the facility is climate controlled? . No one wants to take responsibility. Our moving company owner said he had never seen so much mold especially in only a 4 month period of time. We have many pictures to support our story including the items that we had to throw out. The Public Storage District Manager in our first conversation felt there was something that could be done. After speaking with his supervisor, he came back with the company line and "sorry for your troubles".. We have a call into the Regional VP. However, unless we can somehow prove that the unit and/or the facility are not "climate controlled" they are legally in the right and the liability is on us. Make a smarter choice. read more

Public Storage is a ripoff. they advertise a great rate online an then when you get there they tell you insurance is required and that is not included in your fee. I pay for a climate controlled unit and it is never cool or room temperature in the building. On top of the $15 late fee, they also add a $61 lien fee if you carry a $1 balance from month to month. All storage unit companies profit from people that live in apartments and small homes but Public Storage in particular, nickel and dimes you and has exorbitant fees. read more

Unit is OK nothing special, I chose it for the convenient location mostly. I should have paid more attention to the reviews however because apparently your rent goes up 10% automatically for no apparent reason after just the first few months.
