Don, the owner, really goes out of his way to make sure you are a happy customer. The employees are all very helpful as well. they really go above and beyond. We looked at Public Storage and was unimpressed. I continued looking and found Brassfield due to its proximity to Duke. I couldn't be happier with the summer storage unit. The units are climate controlled, the 2nd month is free, they offer a moving van to assist in your move at no extra charge, really, really amazing!! The units look new, and the facility is very well maintained. I will continue storing at Brassfiled over the summer for the duration of our daughter's college years. Thank you!!!

On top of all those perks the rates are affordable. Cheaper than Uhaul with more perks. We ended up renting a storage unit that was too small. After business hours the area manager saw us struggling and let us move into a bigger storage unit really close to our old one. He told us he'd hate to see us move our stuff twice and to go by the office the next day to update the contract. He saved us from moving into two storage units. Absolutely amazing customer service.

However, when it came to furniture, we found a few missing screws around the house, two of which belonged to the couch. The movers were very nice and hard working, considering how big of a house it was (4 bed, 2.5 bath plus a finished basement, two flights of stairs). Between Excel and the other moving company that was subcontracted, there were a few minor dings on our furniture but nothing super noticeable. They were VERY careful with not scraping up any walls which was the most important thing. I would absolutely hire the same employees again if I could!

Great communication throughout the process and came to assist with the move to keep the process flowing smoothly. Movers were very friendly and very good at their job. They didn't skimp on anything! I especially liked how they covered the floors with cloth and used plastic mattress covers to keep our mattresses clean! Furniture looked great after the move and movers were even early to unload the next day. The movers went above and beyond by tightening some legs on a table that were loose before loading it. I didn't have enough stuff to fill it but they had tie downs to keep the items from moving around while in transport. This is the first time I used movers and I didn't think that I had that much stuff to warrant it taking a while to load the truck. The only reason I am giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is because It took almost two hours to get the truck loaded. Unfortunately, the younger gentleman, Shawn... I believe was his name, did most of the work. I helped as I could. They did take care to wrap up the fragile and bulky furniture. They also helped me set up my bed frame and dresser so I didn't have to move it by myself. The gentlemen were very nice and friendly! Their deal was a great opportunity and saved me a lot overall. The other places I called quoted well over 400$ for a 1b/1b apartment.

They were a coordinated team with a crew leader who was honest and quick to point out points of damage. (Thanks, Michael!) They moved our household contents as well as two home offices and a storage unit containing 50+ years of career detritus! Not only that, their estimate was the most realistic (not the lowest) we received (Thanks Barry!) All in all, we've moved 9 times and this was the biggest and the best move we've ever had!

Everything seemed ok at first but then we started having issues. No one would be in the office at opening time. When the phone was answered the gentleman and/or sometimes older sounding lady had no idea what was going on or how to charge a credit card or change payment. We rented the truck and the same frazzled strange man helped us. He would not move the truck out or put it back into the small place where it is parked. He was unsure how to handle the billing. We left with no paperwork and nothing saying a transaction had occurred. When we did our final move out we noticed that water had leaked, I think gushed is a more appropriate term, in the corner of one of the units. In that corner was all the family photos, scrap books, keep sakes, collectible magazines and a box of high quality winter wool socks and some underwear. The frazzled, strange guy who was there said he would take photos, call the manager and let him know and he was sure they would "do something" for us. We left the moldy, mildewed mess in the unit and waited for a call the next day. No phone call. We drove over and spoke to the manager Ralph. He was rude, dismissive and just plain ugly. He refused to even listen, much less help. We had to go into the office several times to speak with him because he would just walk away while yelling. He said he had not been informed about the situation. However, he let slip that he had seen the photos the owner/employee had taken the day before. He not only did all these things but he then takes our code out of the system. We paid for a full month of service. If I want to check to make sure everything is out of the unit, now I can't. So not only did all this happen but he shorted us a day without a refund. So we lost very personal, irreplaceable memories and Ralph could care less. This could be the worst place ever to store your things. Either the unit leaked during one of the heavy July thunderstorms or when Jimmy's Minis cleaned out the gutters in June water got in. We were not asking for anything crazy in recompense. The way we were treated is just ridiculous. We don't want others to go through this. Ralph went from friendly to rabid dog status in a snap. We had wanted to support local business but it looks like the big storage corporations are just more reliable. We won't make the same mistake again and we hope you don't either. And I'm hoping the owners read this as well. The manager told us never to in on Wednesday because the guy who worked that day was incompetent. He was not even allowed a password or access to the computer system. What kind of business is this guy running. And then to talk about an employee like that. Hopefully the family who owns this business will do some house cleaning.

Everything looks very secure, the storage units are gated and you need a special password to get in. I've had stuff stored here for about a year and it's just how I left it. I would definitely recommend this as a storage facility, the only negative is that it's not the closest to the college campus, but if you have a car or a truck it's not a big deal at all.

Without asking, they gave me a discount on the second unit and never a moment of hassle when I gave them less than two week's notice on moving out. Access is via a gate with a personal code and open during times convenient to us. With the unit being 8 minutes from Chapel Hill it is safe to say we lived out of those units for those 11 months. Convenient space with lovely people running it. Highly recommend!!
