I went in on Saturday night for dinner, and the service seems to only care about a party of 4 or more, considering they take cash only and the server keeps a majority. Finally, a server came up and asked what I wanted. I guess you have to flash a 100-dollar bill to get their attention. I ordered the steak and lobster with vegetables. The food was way overpriced, the steak was overcooked, and the lobster tail was a small piece where you can purchase a whole lobster for half the price of the meal. The vegetables seemed to be pulled out of a can where they looked to be discarded in water. The only reason for a second star was the busboy; he probably seemed to have the most customer service out of the whole staff, cleaning the tables and getting Togo plates for customers. The ambiance seemed to be what draws the customers. The owner is a hunter, so the decor ranges from deer to water buffalo. The restaurant itself has a second section, which seems to be open for bigger parties. That room was filled with fish and sharks, which I believe were also caught. Lousy food, lousy service. There are at least a dozen better places to go within a 10 minute radius

Okay. So before I go into this self narrative Sarah Jessica Parker or Carrie Bradshaw ramble, let me preface the story. My family and I live an hour or so away from this establishment. My uncle briskly asks me and my relatives visiting from Korea - where would y'all like to eat for dinner? I quickly blurt out "churrasco at Rumba Cubana in Edgewater" before my uncle gets a chance to change his mind. Too late, he's already changed his mind. "I'm paying for dinner so you can shut up," he retorts. Mind you, he's a #Leo so I naturally dislike him, as I don't care for most Leos I come across. Anyway, after thoroughly ignoring my suggestion of a location, a place my ex boyfriend found an excellent choice, which says a lot because he was super high maintenance and a #scorpio who never settled for less, my uncle self entitledly goes "Oh! I know the perfect spot. It's like an all you can eat style seafood place. But it's a bit of a drive so we can carpool." So we all scramble to his car. Okay, story gets better. The whole arduous one hour of a drive there, he keeps hyping up how delicious this place is and how at one point it closed down because of a hurricane but was revived after the state or town decided it'd be a good idea to reopen it again and financed the cost of reparations. Like dude, we get it. Let's talk about something else. He wouldn't let me talk most of the ride. Mind you, I'm in my 20's, and he's nearly 40. Smfh. What felt like 3 hours later, we were finally there. Only to be met with a crowded room and hella people waiting to be seated. It looked like a banquet hall, except that it wasn't. The place was adorned with dear heads from the back of the wall to the front. Wooden statues of Native Americans marked the corners of this "restaurant." I honestly felt we had stepped inside the 1980s/1990s, the kind of era where a certain group of people like to believe they were the dominant race in the world, ahah. So anyways yeah, the clams come out. I think the sauce impressed me more than anything. Melted clarified butter, I believe. This was as fancy as this place got. The wings tasted unseasoned, but I wasn't mad. We were here for the seafood. Okay, so the seafood. Pretty damn good if I say so myself. I mean how can you mess up seafood? All you gotta do is steam it. I feel the snow crabs paid for this whole unnecessary tedious trip itself. The waitress named Alisha or Alicia was lovely, she is super personable and helpful and friendly. I have nothing against the people here or the place. Yikes, no maybe I lied. I didn't find the deer necessary. On the other hand, I am here to say the food wasn't as phenomenal as my uncle hyped it out to be, but then again, he hypes up everything, even his own son as a future MLB player. So let me wrap this up. Will I be back? Most probably not, because it's way too far; and I can find plenty of decent seafood joints in Harlem. Was the food terrible? No, it just wasn't as AMAZING as my uncle had explained. Were the prices justified? I am going to say yes. Is it a good place to have a good time with friends and family? Yes. Great quality for what you're paying for. $18 for a t-bone and $22 for a porter house that is bigger than my hand - their potatos were cooked very well! - clams were fresh (my mom who was born and raised by the ocean, approved. She was all just "get your orders in and shut the heck up". We had no plates or utensils after our food arrived and had to wait a long time to flag her down. We had 2 orders of the Porterhouse steaks and they were huge. 2 to 3 adults can definitely share one order of the Porter house. It also came with a side of baked potato and frozen veggies. I ordered the t-bone steak and all the steak was decent. Our family also ordered the eggplant parm, steamed claims, lobster, cocktail shrimps and everything was decent and portion was big. The wings were very overcooked and wayyy too salty so definitely don't get it The place was decorated with bunch of animal heads. Very weird. Quick note: CASH ONLY I've heard fantastic things about this place so decided to come here with a couple of friends on a week night. Everyone at work also raves about this place, especially their seafood. However, I was a bit disappointed by the food. The atmosphere was nice. A family friendly place with lots of TVs, good for when there's a game on. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. The prices are very reasonable as well, they have lots of special combinations. I got the porterhouse steak with shrimp cocktail. My friends both got the lobster and clams. Food came out pretty quick and they were BIG portions. No frills steamed shell fish restaurant. Come here for their steamed clams, lobster, snow crabs, and king crab legs - emphasized steamed shell fish. This is not a fish or what you would consider as seafood restaurant with raw bar. Highly recommend getting king crab legs and lobster. They are always fresh and juicy and they hit the spot every time. The two dozen clams are an amazing deal but it's nothing special - more bang for your buck than actual quality. Their porterhouse steak is surprisingly pretty decent. If you are not in a steak mood, it is not a bad option. We like to offset the seafood with fried food. Five people came on a Saturday night for a dinner. We ordered 2 dishes of clams to share, a lobster, t-bone steak, two snowcrab legs, mussels in marinara sauce, and a king crab. The king crab was salty at best. The snowcrab legs were okay - they were pretty dry and overcooked. Mussels in marinara sauce was the most popular main dish of the evening. But, who doesn't enjoy marinara sauce topped with mozzarella cheese? T-bone steak: just don't. As soon as you walk into this place, you'll see that people come here for seafood and the interior design gives it away anyway. Cheap steak with nothing special. This was our first time here at Pub 199 after hearing so many great reviews. The place is very big with tons of staff working. We arrived on a Saturday night around 7:45. We went to the bar for a drink while we waited for our table. We waited about 10 minutes for a table and were greeted very quickly by our server. We ordered the shrimp cocktail for an appetizer and it was very good. Nice size shrimp and very cold. We also ordered the snow crab legs with clams & king crab legs. Pub 199 used to be one of our favorite places. They have now more than doubled their prices, some are triple what they were not long ago. The price alone wouldn't be the problem if they didn't serve appetizers on dollar store paper plates and serve drinks in dollar store plastic cups. If you're going to charge Ruth's Chris prices, at least use real dishes and glasses. Better yet, if you're able to pay these prices, just go to Ruth's Chris. From the looks of the interior the owner is a true outdoorsman. His hunting trophy's hanging up on every inch of the walls. It makes for a cool vibe inside the restaurant. Despite identifying himself as an outdoorsman.. Patrons who want water have only the choice of bottled water, "no tap water, no filtered water available." I get charging for water, but to be one of largest restaurants in the area and force non reusable plastic on every guest is a blatant disregard for the environment and future generations that have to live on this earth with all this non biodegradable plastic. read more

To put it bluntly, the service is racist here. I came with my family (mix of Asian and black) and we were utterly ignored the entire evening. We waited to be greeted while the waitress ran another table's food one by one. When I asserted we were ready to order, she again ran off to serve yet another table. I first attributed her lack of warmth to it being a busy Saturday night, but by the end of the evening, I noticed how friendly and attentive our waitress was to her other white tables. I then turned around and realized our section had been filled with ONLY other Asians. We were literally segregated - not integrated - with the rest of the restaurant. The vibe you get when you walk in- a lodge cabin. With that in mind, the interior is.. interesting. It's surprisingly open for a pub. The food is okay, definitely worth the price they charge. We had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding here, and it's still one of our all-time favorite places for dinner! The crab legs are divine!

90% sure we received food poisoning from here because everyone in our family has ridiculous stomach aches afterwards. However, we have eaten here multiple times before with no issue so that is why I am still giving 3 stars. You can definitely get a decent amount of food here for a cheaper price than usual seafood places. The portions are very large which is always nice. Options for the whole family as well from seafood to burgers. Sometimes the lobster comes out perfect and sometimes it is very over cooked so it really depends how great the food quality is. The staff is always super friendly and on top of drink orders and making sure you have everything you need to enjoy your time there. The animals on the wall make it an experience for the whole family to enjoy. This restaurant has changed and not for the better. We went there last night and were very disappointed. Their prices have gone up and the food quality has gone down. This restaurant used to be known for having good quality seafood at reasonable prices; neither is true now. I ordered a 2 dozen steamers and a lobster with a baked potato and my wife ordered 2 lobster tails and a baked potatoes. My steamers were overcooked and rubbery. My lobster was small and the baked potato was dry. My wife's lobster tails were also small. The total price for the two of us with a tip was $96 which is a lot to spend for a meal in a room that resembles a giant dining hall. If I am going to spend nearly $100 for a meal, there are a lot better choices in the area. I have been there many times, but I don't think I will be going back. read more

Last time I went, everything was stone cold. This time as usual the clams were great, but my brother's snow crabs were rotten- could not pull a piece of meat of of them. Luckily he spoke up and waitress brought out some from a "fresh batch". My wife's lobster was likewise, but she did not complain. Had black tips on the claw and was whole thing was dry. So this is my first visit. The place is very big, great for groups or families. Lots of big round tables, I'm a big fan of round tables for large groups. It was my family of four. They sat us at a large round table which none of us were a fan of so we moved to a smaller table. The menu is pretty self-explanatory with many options/combo options for land lovers, sea lovers and in between. We started with two dozen clams &shrimp cocktail. We ordered a couple surf and turf combos, a fried fish sandwich, and I believe an eggplant Parm. Everything was excellent ,very tasty, very large portions. The surf and turf came with vegetable and a nice baked potato. It's a super super casual place with lots of mounted animals & fish on the walls. I would of gave it 4 stars if the waitress was a little bit smiley and helpful. Two of the combos both had steak with it and she knew that one of them was for one of the small kids. One kid wanted steak and the other wanted the lobster tail. The portions are big and the 2 steaks could've easily fed four people and she could've told me that. TLDR; Cash only, one drink per person, no tap water, amazing & quick service and seafood is amazing for a great price! Would highly recommend to go. I've been to this place several times in the past year so I'm pretty use to the odd decor. There are 3 rooms: one is the bar area, one is a sea dining room where there's different types of fish on the wall, and the last room is the wild sport dining room where there are animals ranging from giraffes to lions. At first this was a sore sight but now i'm use to it. Now the reason why it doesn't bother me that it's cash only and there's no tap water. Yes it's odd and yes it's unheard of, but I would pay that price to have the low prices of their seafood. There's an atm in building incase you don't have cash on you. Like i mentioned before, i've eaten here several times so i'm used to it! The staff is always nice and helpful, unlike what I've read below. They are staffed with local high school students and older members so it's nice to see a familiar face. I've never had a complaint and the following will be of just my recent experience. My family took me out for my birthday dinner and upon getting there we see that the parking lot was packed. That being said, once we told the hostess the number of people eating we were quickly sat down. We all knew what we wanted. My dad got a t-bone steak with the dozen clams and fries, my mom (allergic to shellfish) got the deluxe burger, my sister for the king crab with dozen clams and fries, and i got the lobster with dozen clams and fries. The only thing i've notice is that the lobster, dozen clams, and fries went up in price from $24 to $29 . Even though the restaurant was packed, the service was super quick and the food didn't suffer because of it! I always enjoy the lobster ALWAYS. Never had a complaint on it nor the clams! It's very filling and always taste fresh. My family enjoyed their meals, I believe the only complaint was my mom's burger which was dry.
