This place is just a huge value. Value, value, value! $57 for King Crab Legs, with 20 steamers. You can't even get that deal at Costco, and making it at home. I've had a number of things here, and never a bad meal. The service is good. Wait staff is very friendly. The ambiance is like that of hunting lodge. Lots of trophy animals and fish on the wall, and warm fire places. If you want a value, decent food, and like to eat by a warm fire, check it out! The prices seemed to all increase by a significant amount and the clams I used to really enjoy were rubbery and served pretty lukewarm. Crab legs weren't as fresh as they once were, and tasted as though they were frozen and oversalted. This is one of the best places to get seafood! I love coming here and getting the King crab legs! I haven't even here in awhile so i got the opportunity to sit outside and loved the new space. Solid. Still going really strong. Stopped by after an all-day rafting excursion in the Poconos. Decided to go with the King Crab/Dozen Clam combo instead of Lobster and we were glad that we did - man those massive crab legs were PACKED with buttery, moist, and briny crab meat and the quantity was HUGE. Worth every penny. And as usual, their dozen clams which were super fresh, succulent, and flavorful. Ordered the Porterhouse to round out the meal and while the meat was cooked slightly unevenly, it was a good addition. But the show stealer was their baked potato. Yes. Potato. I'm not sure how they did it, but it was just the perfect baked potato - crispy but easy to peel skin with soft flesh that and a bit of crunch and "bounce" closer to the skin, with butter thoroughly infiltrated. With dollop of cool sour cream on top, man that thing was tasty. All in, the bill came out to like $75 and I did not regret that. Super tasty - Pub 199 is still going strong, Yelpers. This is the 3rd time I am here. Price increased as expected, and I feel portion size got smaller too. Food is not too salty which goes along my personal preference. Chef salad has a lot of stuff inside, hot subs were always delicious with generous portion. Go early for dinner if you do not like to be surrounded by crowd of people. My family treated me to dinner last night. On the drive from Newark, they told me how the brought everyone they know to Pub 199. So expectations where a little high. Our waitress was lovely and patient. My aunt like to make our dinners exciting. I'll let your imaginations paint the rest of that picture. Anyway, this is Yelp and this is about reviews. Pub 199 is one of the most unique places you'll visit in New Jersey and I'm surprised it hasn't been featured in diners, drive-ins and dives ... mostly for its unique inside. The owner is a big game hunter and fisherman who has a lot of animals mounted on the walls. Deer, giraffe, squirrel, buffalo, and a lot of other animals really make this an interesting place on the inside. The fireplace in the big room really heats up the place and makes it feel warm and cozy. Pound for pound, pub 199's prices on seafood are some of the best around. Their combo dishes of lobster and clams, snow crab and clams, and other stuff really makes this place great. The 2 dozen crabs are great to share and they've got plenty of appetizers to make the meal fun for two people. Their 2 dozen clams pair well with the lobster, snow crab or even shrimp dishes. I'm interested in going back to try their porterhouse combos. Pub 199 is cash only. They've about 8 beers on tap but have bottled beer as well. I was a fan of their pumpkin seasonal from Blue Point as well as their Blue Point Lager. The BP Lager was similar tasting to Yeungling Lager. On a side note, each person is required to buy one drink minimum if you sit at the table. Not sure why, but I chose beer. Stopped in for lunch after a morning of shooting clays at the range. One of my buddies suggested grabbing a bite here and since it has been awhile for me, why not? At 1:30 in the afternoon on a Tuesday we literally had the place to ourselves. We had the option of a table in the deer room or the bar and after a lengthy discussion we decided on the bar. Our bartender/waitress Kim was pleasant and funny. She took our drink orders while she was handling out the menus. She informed us that they were out of the whole lobster and had been since Valentine's Day. Kim was very patient with us as one of my friends kept changing his mind as to what to order, all he kept saying on the drive here was how he was going to order the whole lobster. Eventually he settled on plan D. So with orders placed we settled in and relaxed. We all agreed on the two dozen clams each, an eggplant Parmesan sandwich for me along with a fish sandwich and a pastrami sandwich for my two buddies. Clams were plump and delicious, especially when given a dip in the drawn butter. The sandwiches were large and satisfying. For most of my visits here the food has been consistently good as it was today. It gets pretty crowded for dinner service and there's a pretty good wait time for a table even with both dining rooms open. I was here before but had only ordered the shrimp cocktail and steak but decided when invited a second time to try what they are known for...lobster. The ambiance is supposed to look like a mountain lodge with all animal heads on the walls. It was a major turnoff, because a lot of the heads were animals that are from Africa and I don't know how they are here legally. So again, I went with my parents. Another turn off was the waitress brought their drinks before even asking what I wanted. They go a lot apparently. To me that's poor service. I had to wait for my drink awhile after they got theirs. I opted for the whole lobster with baked potato. We also ordered the shrimp basket to share with the three of us. There was only enough shrimp to feed one person and it was on top of a huge bed of French fries. The beer battered shrimp were not fresh battered but had the appearance of coming out of a box. Strike #2. The lobster came and I cracked the claws and the lobster meat was tender. When I got to the lobster tail, the meat was chewy. I had to spit out one piece and the other pieces, I had to swallow. This was the last straw. I'm not a baked potato person, but I ended up eating the whole potato, skin and all. This place is all hype for not so good seafood. Go at your own risk. I don't recommend and I won't be back, even if invited. read more

We ended up at this place coming back from a strawberry farm. It had decent reviews and It was the closest spot on our way home. PETA not recommended, vegetarians and vegans stay away. This place is for avid hunters and taxidermy lovers. The walls are filled with animal displays of all types, one section for wilderness, the other for sea wildlife. Atmosphere is ok if you are into those type of things. The food itself is great. Small menu but enough to get the job done. Clams are fantastic, I had to ask for some lemons but overall great prices for seafood in general. Crab legs and lobster were superb!! The draft beer selection is quite phenomenal. But the service was phenomenal (I believe we had the manager serving us this evening because they were short staffed ) The menu was very different, they no longer had complete lobsters.. only tails and they were horribly flavorless, the butter didn't taste like butter .... The steamers were good though.. (saving grace) and the soda was actually good . Me and a girlfriend sent back our lobster tails and ordered The king crab legs which were flavorful (it was a little salty to me but still good) Our husbands enjoyed there food despite the fact they complained about the butter lacking any taste and the inflated price. Covid safety: 3/5 staff were wearing masks properly and hand sanitizer was available, however this is such a big venue and even though it does seem to be following capacity limits, it feels very packed You can all see my updates below but my family and I have frequented Pub 199 ever since I was a kid - it truly was a family favorite. We really only came here for their lobster specials so that's what I'll focus my review on. Very very disappointed to share that the lobster specials that were once fresh, juicy, and packed with flavor are no more. Instead of their whole lobster, they've been replaced with 2 lobster tails that taste like nothing. It really tasted like these were frozen lobster tails that were poorly prepared and seasoned (spoiler alert: they weren't seasoned either). Cannot share how disappointing it is to see one of their trademark dishes be replaced with something less than BUT see a price increase of about $10 (~$34 in 2020 winter to now $45 pre-tax). It's one thing if prices increases, I get that, but for the price to increase and the offering and taste to plummet is another. To add insult to injury, our baked potatoes were dry and sandy... In an effort to be fair, their clams are still their clams - delicious and generous as ever. I would come here just for their clams to be honest. Once again, this review does not reflect their other food offerings, just the lobster specials. If you're expecting the old Pub 199 lobster specials on your next visit, perhaps think twice. read more

A family member recommended that me and my family go get lunch here before a soccer game we were coming to see. It was not really my favorite experience. I'll start with the most obvious and unsettling detail- the walls of the dining room are completely covered in taxidermy animal heads. (And the place is massive. There is a LOT of space for animal heads.) I would say that perhaps this is just a matter of taste, but I can't imagine that anyone could really enjoy dining in a room while hundreds of animal carcasses stare at you. We all just tried to look at the table and pretend they weren't there (For what it's worth, the table wasn't very cute either). The second strike was that the service totally sucked. The waitress seemed hell bent on walking away so quickly that nobody could say anything to her. The vibe that the staff curated was almost as bad as the interior of the restaurant. They also only sell bottled water, which is a weird trait for a sit down-restaurant to have. There is one thing that could redeem most of this. If there was delicious food, maybe it would absolve the decoration and attitude crimes committed by this restaurant. Unfortunately, the food was just... not that good. One of my family members described his sandwich as "unfortunate", while another said that she wasn't enjoying her meal, just tolerating it. All in all, the food did nothing to help an already harrowing experience of a lunch. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone hoping to have a pleasant meal or go somewhere enjoyable. This restaurant relies on heavy customer traffic to keep the food fresh and the prices down, kinda like how some places in big cities do it. I've been here several times driving back from the Poconos. The lobster and clams and mussels are consistently very good and they seem to be the most popular dishes. Other items like steak and sandwiches are not bad too, with kind of a hole in the wall taste to them. Environment is spacious yet with so many tables and so many customers it's sort of like nice cafeteria.
