Let me start off by saying that I highly, highly recommend working with Marty if you are looking for a quality bike fit experience. By way of background, I log about 2,500 road bike miles a year and enjoy doing mainly 60 to 100 mile charity rides. I have had back and knee problems in the past and about 3 years ago had a professional bike fit done at a bike shop. That experience only made things much worse on my back. I didn't realize how much the fit put me into a more race type position and I ended up doing a month of physical therapy TWICE over the next 5 months. At that point, I tried to self-correct the fitting and made adjustments to the seat position and height, and the handlebar height and angle. That ended up fixing my back problem, but over time created severe problems with my hamstrings and inner thigh muscles. The tightness and cramping was getting so bad that I was going to have to stop biking unless I got my fit corrected, and after the previous experience, I was very hesitant to spend the money on one at another bike shop.
So after doing some research, I came across Marty's name with Kauffman Physical Therapy. I was immediately interested because of the physical therapy aspect and how that would help him understand my issues. I contacted Marty and he was very responsive and easy to talk with. We went over the issues I was experiencing, discussed the type of riding I do, and he explained clearly the process we would go through during the fit. The fit itself was a great experience. Marty was very organized and detail oriented (and he is a great listener as well), and I was impressed by how smoothly it all went.
I had the fit done in May 2016, and the problems with my hamstrings and thighs disappeared IMMEDIATELY. Day 1. I have had no pain or tightness of any sort since the fitting, just the normal soreness that comes with training and pushing limits to get stronger, and which disappears after a day or two. I can honestly say that I've never felt more comfortable on my bike, and it is such a joy to ride again.
I have an indoor Cycleops bike as well and scheduled another appointment with Marty in the fall of 2016 to have it set-up the same as my road bike for winter training. Similar experience and results as the first time.
Again, I highly recommend contacting Marty if you're looking for a quality bike fit. There wasn't a single negative aspect during either visit and the results for me have been amazing. read more
