Such a cozy vibe with fantastic live jazz, and best of all was the staff who were so helpful in picking out drinks for some inexperienced cocktail drinkers! Must check out if you're in Kansas City read more

Nice enough underground intimate vibes. The P.S. margarita I got was also nice (I got it for the egg whites). Staff was friendly but it was noisy and crowded here. I got in at a lucky time but the seating was awkward being next to the door and the table was mad wobbly lol read more

They have largely lost the Speakeasy feel to this place. That's disappointing. They had good drinks and the space is intimate and dark but it feels like it's lost its character. Service was slow at first but it piked up and the people were friendly! read more

When I first moved to Kansas City, I explored several of the speakeasy and themed bars. While I have been back to many, I never made it back to PS, so last weekend we decided it is long overdue another visit. We arrived at 8:30pm and saw a sign that said something along the lines of "we are booked up, so preference will be given to those with a reservation". Ok, understand; we may not get in since they are full. So I took a peek inside....and more than half the tables were completely empty. I asked the host if we can sit at the (completely empty) bar and enjoy one cocktail before their reservations arrive. She didn't know the answer and went to consult with the bartender. The bartender then responded with a rude attitude that she can't take any more customers. At this point it is 8:35 and you have about a dozen free tables plus a fully unoccupied bar. Is everyone running late for their 8:30 or did everyone schedule a 8:45 slot? I'm still baffled that we were turned down for a 1 drink / 15 minute experience with so many open seats. read more

This speakeasy in Hotel Phillips was dimly lit and a cool experience. The group ordered a few cocktails. My favorite was the Gatsby, a perfect blend of sweet and sour with hints of floral. Recommend getting reservations because it can get pretty crowded. read more

This is my absolute favorite bar in downtown Kansas City. I love the atmosphere and always have a great time talking to the bartenders. We have only been for drinks, but have never had a bad experience. read more

P.S. is the epitome of speakeasy entrances as it's hidden inside of the Hotel Phillips. You could easily be standing right in front of the door and not even know it's there. While this speakeasy does take reservations, you can also go directly to hotel reception and ask for a table at P.S. and they can tell you if there is availability. The atmosphere here is amazing and a perfect location for date night. As for the drinks, I must recommend the Baltimore Break that is pear focused or the Fountain City which is like being smacked in the face by a lemon. This is one of the top two speakeasies in all of Kansas City, so be sure to arrive early or you might be waiting a while for a seat. This is an amazing historic speakeasy. I grew up in KC and had never heard of it. It's a hidden gem. Great drinks, live jazz band. You need to make a reservation. Had a blast! read more

We made a reservation more than two weeks in advance and just received a call the day of our reservation that they needed us to move our reservation because they booked a birthday party during it. It's pretty obvious that the birthday party was booked after our reservation was made. Very frustrating and unacceptable to get a call literally the day of our reservation because now we cannot make reservations anywhere else on a Saturday night. read more

PS is yet another awesome speakeasy in Kansas City. Located inside of the Hotel Phillips, for this one you must talk to the front desk people to obtain access. The entrance is an unmarked white door that you can actually see through the front window. They have live music and a high-end whiskey collection. The PS Old Fashioned was a treat. Not the best speakeasy in town, but it is a must-visit spot for those who seek a classy experience. read more

The area itself was nice, and lowkey. It gave lowkey vibes and was nice and had intimate seating. The drinks were strong, yet a little over priced. The down fall for us was the service. We were seated quickly but waited nearly 10-15 minutes before our waitress actually came to our table. Our order was taken and about 10 minutes later our drinks arrived to our table. Our waitress was not really present all that much. We had finished our drinks and were waiting for our waitress to return so we could close out our tab but was gone for some time. The speakeasy has potential. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience at P.S. Speakeasy was abysmal from start to finish. We arrived on time for our 8:30 reservation, only to wait 15 minutes to be seated in a half-empty venue. When we were finally sat, it was at a wooden table under harsh fluorescent lights--hardly the dark, mysterious atmosphere one expects from a speakeasy. It felt more like a cafeteria than a cozy, intimate bar. The service, however, was the real nightmare. Despite watching wait staff bus tables, fill water glasses, and attend to virtually every other table, we were blatantly ignored. After patiently waiting, I finally asked a staff member if he could take our order, only to be met with a sarcastic "Yeah!" before he continued prioritizing other customers. It was humiliating and infuriating. We ultimately got up and left, but not before bringing this fiasco to management's attention. If you're looking for a place that values its customers and provides even halfway decent service, look elsewhere. P.S. Speakeasy is all style and no substance--and even the "style" is questionable. We will never go back. read more

You have to make reservations here if you want to get in. It makes it feel very exclusive and secretive. We had a very long wait for our cocktails but WOW it was very much worth the wait. PS offered a lot of local kc spirit based cocktails to choose from. I was able to share a section from their menu below. The jazz and the personality from the band was fantastic, they loved to interact with the crowd and we ended up talking with a few of them after their set. Overall a very cozy and fun speakeasy if that is your vibe. read more

Make. A. Reservation. Do. Not. Miss. This. Experience. You do not want to miss this 1930's inspired Kansas City speakeasy located somewhere near the amazing Hotel Philips. Elegance, detailed, and nostalgic, we were transported back in time as we walked in to the main foyer of the hotel. In search of the PS we headed to the lower level, only to find restrooms and what appeared to be a banquet hall. We took the elevators back to the lobby. We entered the hotel restaurant and asked a server where to find the PS. She looks around and quietly says, "You need to check with..." that's all I can say! Its part of the experience! We find our secret contact. Since we were not on the list, a call had to be made to allow us entrance. We were lucky to get in. We are buzzed in and ushered through a secret door. We enter a dark stairwell, snaking our way down the dimly lit corridor until we hit the bottom of the stairwell, and enter the PS. The menu is full of spirits, specially crafted cocktails and mock tails. A great place to relax before or after a night on the town. The art deco furniture and mood lighting set the stage for a great evening gathering around friends or a romantic moment with that social someone. Taylor was our server and was simply fantastic, answering our questions, and providing suggestions for drinks. Do not let the menu full you; do not be afraid to ask if there are other drinks that may not be on the menu. We loved every minute of this evening. I did get pretty nervous once I found out that a reservation is really preferred; we simply wondered in and lucked in to a couple of seats. read more

Great little speakeasy and all the staff are super personable. The drinks are tasty. Just a great vibe all around

My husband and I were guest in the ballroom for an event at the hotel Phillips. We Purchased a glass of wine from the cash bar. We decided to go downstairs to visit PS. The dark haired bartender/ waitress with the big teeth and glasses was so rude to us and would not let us enter with our glass of wine, purchased from the same hotel. We agreed and drank it in the hallway before entering. After we were finished, we entered the venue and sat at a table. She then walked over to us and told us we were not allowed to sit there because she did not seat us there. There were open tables everywhere, but instead of moving us to a different table she told us we need to go back out and "read" the sign saying we needed to wait to be seated. We had a group of friends in a different part of PS so I told the rude women we would just go and join them. Unfortunately, they had no extra seating at their table. My husband asked if we could bring a couple extra chairs over there. She only allowed us one chair and said "we could always just stand" so instead my husband and I had to share a single chair. We placed an order for drinks with her and after 45 minutes, she returned, asking us if we were ready for our second round. My husband informed her that we never received our first round. By then she had already forgotten what we ordered and never put the order in. The place was cute and quirky, and I would've loved to have given it a positive review. However, the unpleasant woman was so rude and disrespectful, not only to us, but multiple other people who are attending the same event we were. We will NEVER go back! read more

Very cool venue. Fun secret entrance. Great ambiance in the bar. Ao far so good. Bad news is it's a speakeasy where you would expect to find bourbon that is difficult to find and tonight anyway all that was available was off the shelf and marked up a lot. Old Forester 1920 $17 a pour for a $60 bottle. So great venue need to get product in that represents the venue. Not what's available on shelf marked up. Did have a good time and cool place so if you're looking for a nice spot to go for a drink and impress a friend or business partner, great spot. If you're looking for a speakeasy experience with hard to find bourbon, not so much but the bartender (working his tail off all alone) noted I was looking for something unique and found a bottle of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon! Great recovery to some initial disappointment in the selection. read more

Stayed at the hotel and of course made reservations to the speakeasy. Love the esthetic and the low lighting, sound doesn't carry far and overall is a very fun spot. Did take our waitress almost 20min to great us, and then another 27min before we even got the drinks we ordered, unfortunately she and the bartender were the only people working. Only had time to get one drink with how long service was, which has never happened before. Will try it out a third time and hope to see how amazing it can be all together as an environmental package. PS Speakeasy is a prohibition inspired cocktail lounge located in the Hotel Phillips. You must make a reservation to gain entrance to this nostalgic venue. The door is not marked, but with the right friends at the hotel, they can lead you to the secret entrance. After venturing down a dark, sparsely lit stairwell, you enter the PS. It is luxurious in its buildout with plush banquette and mood lighting. The menu is has a great selection of house curated cocktails, but you can also get traditional favorites. Mocktails are available for those who do not want to induldge. This is a great location for a drink before or after dinner, or a cozy time with that special someone. Could also be a great way to kick off a first date. read more

Interesting spot. Once arrived we waited about 5 minutes before we could head down. There are steps that take you down. The steps are dark. The bar is dark. I seriously couldn't read the menu without using a light on my phone. It's small. It was busy. Only one bartender and one server. Both were kind. It was somewhat noisy and a little difficult to have conversation. Luckily we were sitting right next to each other but there were spaces were you were across and I have no idea how people maintained conversation. The drinks were good. Average pricing. I'm glad we went for the experience, but there are definitely better places in town for a drink. read more

For being in a hotel this place is all right... smaller place fits 72... the hotel makes you think it's hard to get into and you need a reservation I didn't find that too be true. The bar charges crazy places for average bourbon as in you can buy a bottle after two servings. The drinks are sweeter than they should be probably serving to the average hotel guest. You enter right behind the check in counter it's also right next door to the Italian restaurant but they don't tell you that. Worth a visit but don't expect wow. read more

You know how you open a secret door and descend some dark steps into a speakeasy and you're already inebriated and loud and obnoxious but you think it's funny and you're convinced that your banter with the bartender is charming and the bartender is having a great time?? I apologize on behalf of me and my friend. To be fair, I tried to make amends. When we all started drunkenly talking about candy bars and the bartender said that a Twix sounded amazing, I lurched up the stairs of the speakeasy to the hotel lobby and somehow managed to purchase 5 snickers from the front desk and handed them out to the 3 bartenders. They seemed happy but to be honest everything is really fuzzy. read more

This Speakeasy is located in the basement of Hotel Phillips, and is indeed the definition of a hidden gem. However, there are a few caveats. The bar itself is pretty small, and the acoustics lean towards loud, so if you're looking for an intimate table, I suggest one of the bigger booths along the backside wall. Unlike some other sprawling Speakeasys in the city, PS doesn't have room for live entertainment, but they curate the music impeccably. Last time, I was crooned with a discography solely sang by Amy Winehouse and was thrilled with that. Service here can be a tad slow, but if you're visiting a bar like this, you shouldn't be trying to rush in or out. PS requires you to relish in the vibes and sink into the darkness while carrying on a conversation or sitting alone with your thoughts. When I find myself within either of those situations, I always choose to sip on a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. At PS, the aforementioned is what I stick with, and it's a strong one. A classic old fashioned with Rye whiskey that isn't too sweet and heavy on the pour. I find myself fond of PS, it makes a great starting point for an evening full of festivities, or it's a great post script to round out a night out on the town. read more

I suggest you venture outside of your normal zone and make you an amazing treat! I usually drink bourbon on the rocks, an old fashioned or a Manhattan, but I tried his Phillips signature cocktail and was hooked. It's divine!! He also suggested a new whiskey for me to try and I loved it. He's very kind and knowledgeable about beer and spirits and always makes us feel welcome. The atmosphere here is SO COOL!
