The donuts and baked goods at WSMD are homemade and enticing, but we passed them by for the breakfast sandwiches, which are freshly made to order. I also ordered a lunch sandwich for later in the day. The breakfast sandwiches were hands-down the best we've every eaten: freshly cracked eggs broken and over-easy, with local Vermont cheese on freshly homemade english muffin, and a few dashes of Tabasco (my addition). Wow. My lunch sandwich was also delicious, with firm home-made bread and nice helpings of very fresh ingredients. Very satisfying. Locals don't need a tip to enjoy this Newport gem, tourists enjoying the Northeast Kingdom - take heed!

There's also a very wide variety of crackers and jams! It is a bit on the pricier side, especially for meats, but the amazing staff makes up for it. The staff is incredibly friendly and will guide you to buying the best items just for you. Even though it's just meat and cheese, the whole experience felt very personal. The staff is taking COVID precautions seriously and I've never felt safer in a small store. They also have curbside pickup available.

The man helped with the creation of the Owl's Head ski resort many decades ago. And the lady prepares their own smoked meat, and uses it to serve one of the most simple and delicious smoked meat sandwiches anywhere - as good or better than any I've had in Montreal. I wish I knew their names. It's a perfect spot to stop after skiing at Owl's Head or Jay Peak. They also have hot soups and other foods. Usually open until 6-7pm. If you get there before 5pm, be sure to grab some desert down the street at Owl's Bread - which is a supremely delicious bakery/restaurant - but with very limited hours.
