I come here because I've been a client of Lynn (Julie) since about 2007/8. This salon is about an hour away from where I work BUT when you find a skillful, amazing nail tech... you follow her/him wherever they go! Protips has my favorite brand, OPI, and I'm a fan of their various pedi services that they offer. On top of that they provide beverages too. A good nail tech is hard to come by. I have been getting my nails done by Lynn aka Julie since 2004 and when she told me she moved to Protips, I followed her there. I drive an hour each way to get to her to get my nails done. She does AMAZING work. I never have any issues with my nail design, shape or quality. I made an appointment here for a gel manicure, and although this isn't my usual nail place, I was in a pinch for a fresh manicure and didn't have time to drive to Edgewater for my usual place. I arrived for my appointment and my nail tech was super sweet and friendly. She did a great job and I left satisfied. However, 4 days later, two of my nails started chipping. I called to see if I could come in for them to be fixed and they said yes, just come back in. Well I went back and that was a mistake. I wasn't able to see my original nail tech as she was busy, so another lady took me back. She removed the gel polish from my two chipping fingers, filed and buffed them and then proceeded to reapply the gel polish. She didn't bother to dust my hands off, or have me wash them, so she painted right over the nail dust from filing and buffing my nails. To make matters worse, her work was extremely sloppy. I left with polish on my skin and uneven nails. And the icing on the cake, when she was done, she got up, told me to wash my hands and walked to the back room. She hadn't talked to me the entire time except to ask what color it was. She didn't say thank you, good bye, etc. She said absolutely nothing - just up and walked away. With all of the nail salons in this area, they won't be getting my business again. Two stars for the original nail tech I had as she was great. read more

There are no words to express the awesomeness of this place. Professional, friendly, and exceptional service. They go far and beyond any other nail salon I have ever entered. Glen Burnie is about a 30 minute drive from where I live but it's worth it! I've had my gel manicures done by Lynn for the past 10 years and my nails never chip or break. Extremely rushed. The extra $25 for a deluxe pedicure plus $16 for an extra massage gave me a quick 10 minute leg rub with extremely light pressure. I get pedicures for the spa experience, so when I sat in the chair for less than 30 minutes and the longest process of the entire pedicure was them painting my toenails, I definitely left disappointed. My technician and the one next to him seemed clearly lost, continuously asking each other what to do and using the wrong tools for the wrong thing made me want to end it immediately and drive elsewhere, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Now I wish I would've just left. Never have experienced such a bad pedicure and will not be returning. Polish also already chipped less than an hour after leaving. read more

Maybe there's new management?? I'm not sure about the negative reviews, but I loved it here. I came in on a friday afternoon when every other salon around us seemed crowded and I didn't want to wait. As soon as I opened the door I was welcomed by friendly faces, which wasn't the reception I got in the other 4 salons I visited. The massage chairs for pedicures are great. My tech (a guy) I can't remember his name was super attentive to my toes and feet!! Also, my acrylic was done quick but so nice and thin they look like my own nails. I stopped in to get a gel dip nail and gel spa pedi. Prices for pedis were reasonably priced in comparison to other salons offering similar services. The girl had a circular necklace and was pleasant and a good listener. 5 stars there! The next lady said they didnt have light colors in gel but had gel polish. She dipped my nails 3x using clear gel and then used a gel color polish. My nail did break a few days later, which i came back and had them fix. The tech did that free of charge! But, i didnt like that i had to get gel paint instead of dip. I also didnt like having to go back to get my nail fixed. My nails were also filed very wavy, lumpy, and uneven. I've been here twice. My first time I felt the women barely put effort into scrubbing my feet and massaging. Super light pressure. I went to get a pedicure again, different experience. First the lady filled the foot tub with cool water. I got the spa pedicure which the whole process made my feet feel softer than a baby's bottom. The women who worked on my feet took her time, I believe that she massage my feet for 10 minutes giving firm pressure on my feet. It felt really good! I notice a small error of a little bit of nail polish on my big toe. I asked for her to fix this. It seems she doesn't know English well, went to apply clear topcoat. "No, could you get a brush with nail polish remover to fix it" Then it was fixed. A good selection of magazines to read while you are waiting for the little piggies to dry. read more

What an experience... firstly, the nails... they turned out ok, I received a basic gel nail set. In less than 5 days, two tips cracked off, as well as parts of the gel. Never had this happen before. As for the salon itself, I was sort of mortified to realize just how many layers of nail dust and grime were all over the workers station where I was getting my nails done. There seemed to be absolutely no sterilization of the station or things they use on each persons FINGERNAILS... gross. As I sat and waited for my gel nails to dry (the timer had about 1 Minute left), the woman went and started someone else's pedicure. I sat there and waited another 10 minutes, having been ready to pay and leave. I had to approach her to get her to let me pay, to which she seemed irritated. I've been here a few times and I have to say my previous time were excellent. Friday I went to get my nails done I'd have to say these are the worse nails I have ever had. Honestly when the tech was doing my nails I didn't like them but I just chalked it up as a bad day I needed something quick and I didn't have time to schedule with my usual lady. I go back she fixes my nail but the nail was longer than the other I didn't notice till I was in the car. I was traveling so I didn't have time to go back and have her fix it. I just prayed nobody looked at these nails too closely. I get to my event smh y'all I'm not lying my nails were popping off like I had press on nails. These nails are suppose to be sns they are not cheap. I was so embarrassed like literally I'd pick up a plate and a nail is popping off. I was so mad I have to walk around my event with my nails looking like this let me remind you I got them done Friday at this point it's Saturday. How are my sns nails popping off like this after one day?? Of course they are closed Sunday and when I show up first thing Monday morning they are "temporarily closed on mondays." So disappointed. I used to come here all of the time and the service was great. Went yesterday with my daughter and paid for the deluxe pedicure and the 14 minute extra reflexology. They rushed through my pedicure and didn't do half the things you're supposed to get for the deluxe. She didn't even massage my feet! All I got was a light, quick leg rub. My daughters experience was exactly the same .It wasn't even worth complaining about. We just will never return here and as from the other reviews, many other people have had the same experiences with their services too. It's a shame because it used to be really nice in there. WOW! This place looks completely different. I came to Protips before but it has been a while since my last visit. The interior is clean and fresh. It is bright and has a minimalist flair. I appreciate the new management redecorating and upgrading the equipment. They have brand new massage chairs, which are phenomenal. The staff are extremely friendly and professional. Went to Protips Salon to get a pedicure done, and was immediately impressed with how the salon looked. The staff was friendly. It has recently been renovated. I'm usually picky with who handles my feet, but I trusted one of the workers there (Julie). I play lots of sports recreationally and tend to get ingrown toenails. Absolutely recommend this salon! Julie gave me the best spa pedicure ever. The salon is very clean and the tools used on my nails/feet were sealed in sterile packaging. Auto Clave Machine is right there on site. Sarah did my nails, she did a great job on them. They also offer the powder dip fir your nails in a wide variety of colors instead of nail polish. The powder is supposed to last longer than regular polish, but this is my first time trying it. read more

In short, This place was a referral frm another co-worker, upon entering the shop, first impression, dirty! yuck i thought, that should have been my clue, but my coworker referred so, l decided, lets try this....dear God. 1. i got the dip polish, after removing my current polish, Tanya proceeded to start the dip polish w/out cutting and removing my cuticles.....who does that?? i mentioned to her,'are you going to remove my cuticles and such, she said 'if you want, uhm, im paying for it and getting a manicure, uhm yeah i do. 2. The dip containers had the incorrect tops on them and after dipping one nail, i noticed the polish was not what i had chosen, i mentioned it, 'that doesn't look like what i chose, Tanya started yelling thats the number thats here and pointed at the polish i chose and back at the jar, i calmly said, thats not what i chose, she keep getting upset, Jesus i thought please contain my inner &$:;!!,, however after she continued to yell, i started yelling also, it was like she wouldn't listen to me if i didn't yell back at her, so unprofessional on many levels! 3. Also, she TRIED to use dirty nail clippers, only after i mentioned it did she jump up upset because i called her out on it and proceeded to get a fresh pouch of sterilized nail clippers. in the end..... she did realize the jar had the incorrect cap on it and apologized for getting upset and yelling. I wanted a French tip gel Manicure... well I got one and it looks like my nails look like they have 2 weeks of growth on them. They are uneven, there is gel Polish on my skin, my pinkie nail was grinder way down, I actually pulled my hand away, not to mention the white tips are uneven and only 1 coat of white on them. I paid $35 for this shitty job. I am going away for work and I don't have time to go get them redone. So... I had to file my nails down so they didn't look like a toddler had done them. Ive been going there for years but recently it has been going downhill. The first time I noticed something was wrong was when i went in to get acrylic french nails done. They look okay- nothing good, nothing bad- and about a week later i noticed my real nail was turning yellow on the side, turns out they didn't apply it right and water was getting in-between my nail and is he fake one so it caused mold to grow. When i went in for them trying to fix it they blamed me and made me feel bad about it and started showing my nail to the other nail technicians in the store... i was completely embarrassed. A couple months later i needed to get my nails done quick so i went back for a simple gel. Thinking its a simple job. When the nail technician started it must of been her first time doing nails because she was confused the entire time, looking at the products, and always distracted. She butchered my real nails and Poorly applied my nails. There were black dots and bubbles all over them. Then 2 days later they chipped and one peeled off. I went back for them to fix it and they started blaming me and saying my nails are very weak. Then after fixing 3 nails they CHARGED ME for a full set. Point being. Save your money, it's better to go to the cvs across the street and buying fake nails and applying then yourself. read more

I understand that doing gel nails is labor intensive, but I go every two weeks, and it's hard to justify $35. That is the going rate everywhere for a French manicure gel nail, so I accepted that. Protips has increased the price to $40. My nails barely last two weeks ( lots of chipping, etc..), so they have increased the price without increasing the value. When I brought this fact up, I was told that repairs are free! That's actually not true- my time is worth about $20 an hour, so repairs are costly to me. The person who was providing the service was Zander ( I don't know his last name). I walked in their Salon at 1:15pm on October 5th. I was getting a Gel Fill in acrylics and a polish change on my toes. I had 2 broken nails and one was acrylic nail was coming off ( the bottom of the nail was lifted up on my middle finger on my left hand). I warn Zander about the bottom of my nail was lifted up and he examine it and decide to get another acrylic nail to use to take the nail off causing my real nail to break and made it bleed badly leaving a just skin on part of my real nails. Zander did realize that he made that mistake and trying to let wounded nail soaking in acetone. I was in excruciating pain when let it soak in acetone. After 40 mins of letting it soak Zander tried to sand it and I almost had a Breakdown because the pain was unbearable. To make matter worse after he finished up my other nails he told me that He cant do that broken nail and left it with still some acrylic on my nails telling me that I can come back on Saturday October 7th to get it my broken nail done but he was going to charge me regular price for it even though he damage my nails. I'm greatly in pain right now and the nail salon has done nothing to make me feel better or any compensation. They cause me great pain and I don't want nobody to deal with this kind of disrespect, harm, and taking advantage of. read more

My experienced was very rushed from the start. Everyone was very rude & rushing everyone to get out the door. First my nail technician messed up my pedicure & her attempt to fix it looks rushed & sloppy. Not to mention when I was getting my nails done she was rudely talking about my eyebrows saying I need them cleaned & shes doing it; never giving me the time to allow to respond. As she then rushed through my gel nails that has small bubbles all over them, she then proceed to do my eyebrows that resulted in wax in my eyelashes!!
