The ownership of the company has changed about 4x since getting this service over five years ago. The service is very good- at less than $40 a month, we have round the clock monitoring and if the alarm is tripped, security is dispatched (at no additional charge), to check the home's status. It's worth having that peace of mind. The alarm is very loud- I'm sure our neighbors hear it, I know some dogs hear it, because there is barking shortly thereafter. Sometimes we forget about the alarm being on, and then minutes later, we get a phone call to see if we are alright. It is advised to test the system once a month. Just call the center and they will walk you through it. I would highly recommend this service. We also use this company at one of our office locations. If we are having some work done (swamp coolers), I call the center to place the system on "test" mode for a few hours. It's very easy dealing with them- the operators are always very nice and pleasant on the telephone. read more

NEVER USE PROTECT ONE, ADT OR ANY OTHER CENTRAL STATION MONITORING! Businesses like these are obsolete and give a false sense of security. Once you realize just how useless they are, it's too late. It took me 7 phone calls, speaking to 9 different people in order to cancel my service. During these calls I was threatened and felt intimidated All they did was give me the run around, bouncing from person to person for 45 minutes just to get a cancellation number. After that, had the nerve to send me an email stating that they were going to charge me another month even though I am not under contract. I attempted to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau but the company is so low down and sneeky that they are made up of loosely affiliated companies. The only place to complain was So. My Sister was with them for 7 years. My Mom 3 years, So I signed up too. One year in, I decided to add cameras to the security of my house. The nightmare has begun. They sent a tech, that did not really know how to set up the DVR. Two days in and 16 hours later, I asked him to leave. Protection one actually offered a credit for the poor service. Then they took the credit back. Then they gave it back. Then they charged my credit card with NO AUTHORIZATION. Then depending on which rep you speak with, the charge is for different reasons? This company is a joke when I purchased the service they told me that if I move to transfer the service was going to be free . But they never told me that another 3year contract will start so when I moved I was shocked to learn that I had to pay $350 to install the service and my monthly was going to go up. I am very dissspointed since I only had one year left in the contract and knowing that they were not respecting the contract to me it was very unprofessional and unfair. I have had this service for 2 years now. Went to upgrade some of the systems a few months ago and the fiasco started. Tech blamed bad wiring in my house for malfunctioning system and left. I hired an independent electrician to test and fix said wiring issue. Guess what wiring is FINE. Now I have to pay Protection 1 to come out and reinstall panel that they improperly diagnosed. The techs and service people are really nice but #sofrustrating 6/25/2015 Update- The tech came out and was able to fix the issue. The alarm is functioning as it was before. I have not been recharged for the "extra" service call. I will give them an updated rating of 4 stars since everyone makes mistakes. It's how you correct them that defines you. Worst alarm company ever. My house was broken into, and the alarm didn't even go off!!! The burglarers were able to disarm it by shutting off the breaker on the side of my house. In addition, I had cameras installed in my house. They didn't even record as they are supposed to!!! I had tech out at my house several times, the cameras STILL don't work! company refused to give my a refund... MALFUNCTIONING EQUIPMENT is NOT what I'm paying for! Am at a total loss as to why someone didn't follow-up and come give me a quote for purchasing and installing a camera security system as a scheduled. Nor did they call to reschedule or cancel. I only needed to put the contract on hold because I am in the process of buying a house. Our current lease will end and we will be moving in with relatives. I asked if we can put my contract on hold or extend until we move into our new house currently being built. I gave the timeline of 4 months then they can start billing again, but they said they can put monitoring on hold but not the monthly bill. Why would I pay for an inactive service? The response I got was because I have an active contract. Correct, that is why I asked for an amendment to the contract so I can still fulfill my 3 years by extending it by 4 months. I was willing to use the service in my new home and as well as upgrade it for more cameras but the customer service representative was very rude when I asked for some further assistance with my issue. He said, "I can't help you because you have an active contract....I can't do anything because you signed......" He just kept repeating that he's not going to help. I am the customer! who else can you help if you can't help the customer? There were a few other issues I had with them in the past regarding equipment issues, installation issues, and other issues but I was willing to stay. I had no intentions of cancelling at all just for simplicity. After talking with that representative I'd rather pay the fine and never deal with them again. I would suggest to anyone I ever meet not to use this service. Don't fall for the "sales pitch". They are just trying to trap another person for a 3 year contract but once you are in they are not very helpful. The company does not have an honest system in place. read more

On July 25, 2016, I called the company at the customer service number 800-642-2874, to cancel the account as of that date. I had to reply to their e-mail to confirm the cancellation, which I did. On July 29, 2016 I called them again, and I sent them 3 e-mails at the customer service e-mail address P1@Protection1.com, and I paid the account up to August 23, 2016. They did not reply to my e-mails, they refuse to acknowledge my request to have the account closed, and they just sent me a bill for the period of August 24, 2016 to September 23, 2016. We have been cheated by this company and I'm going to the FCC and the Nevada Attorney General. We have had protection One for over 15 years. They bought out our original company. When we moved in March of 2016, we called to have service moved to our new home. No big deal she said, no extra charges, Lies! In our old house we were broken into and robbed. The crooks broke our door window, tore out our security system and made a costly mess of our home. We got to our home from Cedar City, Utah before Protection One. But, we stayed with them, fools that we are. After a few months of using the Pro One in our new home, we decided to change companies, because we had no response from Pro One when our alarm went off twice. When I called to cancel they told me we had a contract and owed $750. I told her we signed no contract and had been their customer for over 15 years. Her tone was tough, you owe it. I said I'm not being cheated and I will contact the Attorney General and the FCC because you are crooks. They call our home every day, two and three times a day with threats. To beat all, They kept billing my credit card, plus that had also been billing me for my old house. Even though the new owners signed up for Pro One service. I think it's great there is no where to leave a rating, probably so people don't see how many 1 stars you have, right? The manager lied to my husband and said that the camera recorded all the time so if there was a break in we could go back and see video. Well it only records when you set it too and for 3 minutes. Then he said that he wouldn't charge for installation. We just got slapped with a huge bill for installation. He also said 2 months for free. Well we got another bill in the mail for $130 when he said our bill would be $36 a month with everything. We tried to cancel because we are unhappy with everything and he was rude and told us we could never cancel. We informed him we know by law the company has to have one and continued to be rude and tell us no and to go ahead and get our attorney's involved. I'm sure upper management doesn't want a lawsuit on their hands. Understand, I am going to post this on as many social media places possibly because what he did was not right and no one seems to want to help fix it. My parents have had Protection One for many years at their home and businesses. We have had many break ins at my businesses and we usually get to the location before the response. Their home was broken into this last week and they were not able to respond to the phone calls so response was dispatched. When they got home they found the house ransacked but no one had responded to check out the alarm. When he tried to find out why no one ever got to the house he was told that the company Protection One called didn't have the correct gate code so they just turned around and didn't notify anyone. The gate code has been the same for years and they have had response there since it was changed! He spent the next day trying to find out why his home was never inspected and was told to contact the company Protection One had called that they were not responsible to provide an answer. He was told by more than one person that the issue was with Veterans Security because that is who was called to inspect the home. He repeatedly tried to explain to the many different Protection One staff that he was their customer and didn't have a contract with Veterans Security but still have not had anyone give him a reason. My parents will have an new security company that not only stands behind their product but that has in house response teams! read more

My wife asked me to call to see if we could get cameras installed in our home. For piece of mind as well as safety. I called Protection 1 and they sent a sale man who has no clue on what I needed for my house. The rep jotted down what we wanted for our house (outside and in). He assured me that when he gets back into the office, he would ask another rep who is more knowledgeable with cameras. After, would give me a call back with a price quote and the different kind of cameras available to what I need. The call never came. This service doesn't work with anything but a hardwired landline or you have to upgrade your service to $55/month and pay for new equipment. I tried to cancel the contract I signed with a different company 12 years ago which they bought out & coincidently had automatically renewed for another 3 years just 2 weeks ago. They did me" the favor" of only charging me a 3 month penalty for cancelling a service that was unable to be monitored anymore by protection 1. Switched to ADT for free & lowered my monthly payment by $10 a month. read more

Protection One monitoring service did not communicate with my system half the time so if there is an emergency they will would not be able to get emergency service to my house for help. After several unsuccessful attempts to resolve the issue and the manager hanging up on me, I told them I just wanted to cancel then they threatened me that I had 7 months left on my contract and I would have to pay over $700 to get out of it. They make you sign up for a three year contract (which was fine and I knew that going in) but at the end of the three years they AUTOMATICALLY put you on another one year contract. I have tried relentlessly to get someone from Protection One to do something about my service. Paying by the year, and no service for over two years.They threatedned me with a disconnect fee of two grand. I have been polite, I have done everything possible to get them o repair my system and make it operational. All to no avail. I sent them an email to tell them I wished for them to contact me. I sent this email out on Sunday, so I expect I (Won't) hear from them soon, but hoping they will call by end of day. I have nbeen dealing with these people for years and they do not give you good service. If I do not receive a call from them, and an appointment set to repair my system, I am going to go through Litigation. My son is an attorney, and i get free legal through the Veteran's Administration for being disabled. I will handle it that way. No call today.... Lawsuit tomorrow. They WON'T be charging me a disconnect fee, nor will they charge me for the past two years. Period. They think they have you with the contract, but truth be known, most alarm companies present problems or won't give you what you pay for the majotity of the time. Court cases show that they are constantly being sued. That is now my choice. I would tell anyone that is considering an alarm install to run as far away as they can when Protection One knocks on their door. It was interesting to find that ADT and Protection One merged. The first question anyone should ask these people is, "If you're equipment is so good, why do you need to pay almost $100/month to make sure it's working?" The sales man never told me that the service contract was for five years so I'm currently paying for service for equipment I don't have anymore because there stuff never did what I wanted and as very difficult to use. There corporate office doesn't care that I was not told this, all they care about is my signature on a piece of paper. Horrible customer service too. They didn't even install the system up to code. My GC had to fix it. When you have a five year contract don't be surprised when customer service isn't very good. read more

We recently switched from ADT to Protection One. We were so surprised with the customer service. Matthew Haynes was the gentlemen who told us about how we could switch for the same price and get much better monitoring and equipment. I was really concerned when I found out that ADT doesn't even call the police they send out a guy first to make sure there is really a problem. I now have tough screen monitors that tell me the weather. I have a camera that will take photos if we have a break-in so I can show the police, we have key faubs and a motion sensor for when we aren't home, but my favorite new feature is the smart phone app, so if I forget to alarm my house and I am at the bank I can do it from my phone. I have had amazing service and a great follow up. Thank you Matthew Haynes and Protection One for helping us get a system that is so easy to use we now get well worth our money out of it. read more
