This cafe has heaps of comfy seating and a good range of foccacia's to nosh on at lunchtime. There's lots of wood and wicker seating out front with shady umbrellas, and I would recommend sitting outside because the chairs inside squeak on the floor so bad I started grinding my teeth. Now, the biscuits: I had coconut macarons, lime shortbread, and coffee florentines, and they were too delicious to believe, try them for yourself. As soon as you place a coffee order they bring you a water glass on a whimsical silver platter, as if to say 'cleanse your palate lady, you're in for a ride.' The atmosphere is somewhat helped by the charismatic pastry chef, but at the end of the day, it's all about the cakes. And they're damn good cakes.

It's a shame because this is a nice little bakery where everything tastes fresh. There's no questionable "is this a day old?" stock and the cakes have all have a smooth texture to them. The drinks are also nice, and it's not a bad little place to sit in for a cake, coffee (or hot choccy in my case) and a chat. Sitting outside though... I don't like sitting down where people are just walking past non stop and the only scenery is that of the cars driving past looking for a carpark. The prices are also really decent, with muffins going for as little as $2, which is a bit of a bargain these days. The staff are also really nice and always have a smile on their faces. Like true German food, the pasty here is quite dense and heavy, but everything is sweet and tasty. Oh, and did I mention cheap? They have some German specialties like pretzels and an odd kind of doughy jam roll, along with the usual fare of muffins and vanilla slice and hedgehog slice. One you won't find elsewhere is their "Nut Corner", a delicious slab of chocolate coated crunchy nut slice, of crushed nuts held together with glucose and honey. YUM. Hello my week's worth of fat. But for $2.50, who could resist? Someone else maybe, but not me. They also have a deal for a cappuccino and a muffin for $4.00. The coffee when I had it was a little over-heated, but apart from that it was okay. The muffins are small compared to the rest of the sweets, but were moist and tasty. They also do a standard range of pies and sausage rolls to satisfy the lunch seeker, and soft drinks and carton iced-coffees. This is a great place for a cheap lunch, and a must-visit for lovers of bargain sweets!

I paid an extra 50c for extra butter and the lady put the same amount butter on my roll as my partners who only got the normal amount of butter. Not a big deal as its only 50c but abit irritating. This is definitely the least appealing of the three; there is nowhere to sit, except for two single chairs flanking the door, the atmosphere feels more like a warehouse than a bakery, as the walls are stacked with boxes of various packaged products, and the clientele can be somewhat...frightening. I queued up with a loud woman in a wheelchair, a man who smelt like he hadn't seen a shower in years, and a tradesman with less than room temperature IQ. And we were all there for the Vietnamese pork rolls. Their rolls are $3.50 for single meat or $4 for combination or Thai chicken. I went the Thai chicken - delicious! Suspect paste on the bottom - I don't want to know its ingredients - yet full of fresh coriander, cucumber, carrot, and tasty chicken. I also tried a rice cake of some description - I wouldn't go there again. It had the taste and consistency of thin rice noodles cooked into a clump and piled with sugar. The other sweets in here look aed little too colourful and creamy - I like my colour as real as possible, same with my cream, so I stayed away. Definitely worth venturing in here for the rolls though. Follow the locals, they know where it's at.

Pies can be very nice or very average depending on what you get but the bread and doughnuts are to die for. When I was younger, I liked the small doughnut balls that use to be just 20 cents each. My pie 'heaven' has turned into a Chicken, Brie and something else (I couldn't see the sign very well from where I was) combination that just didn't have the same OOMPH as it used to. It used to be chunky chicken yumminess but now it's slightly off its game (no pun intended) and all mushed up together. I'm kind of shocked that a bakery catering to Celiacs wouldn't have even a single item without dairy, considering how common dairy intolerance is among people with CD. I guess they have regular menu items, too, but the person behind the counter didn't try to offer me any of those. It wasn't a terrible customer service experience, but it was definitely below average for this type of store. Since I can't rate this bakery on the food, I'll have to rate it on the customer service, which was meh (two stars), and the appearance (four stars), and give it three stars.

I was told they didn't have any. I asked if they had sold out. I was told that no they had not sold out that the bakers decide to bake whatever they feel like baking each day so you never know what products will be sold in the bakery on any given day. I made 3 more attempts to purchase the apple and custard tart on 3 different days before I gave up. I guess the bakers didn't feel like baking them on those days. What a strange way to run a bakery. Most bakeries stock a staple of the same items so that customers can go every day if they want to purchase their most favourite baked goods. It was like each day I visited I had to find out if that day would be my lucky day to have the privilege to purchase an apple custard tart. Since each day wasn't my lucky day and I left in disappointment I gave up and won't be returning again. Such a shame because their products are great but it's pot luck whether they feel like selling you your favourite baked goods that day or not. You can get all regular coffee like other coffee shops at here, the regular size is $3.5 and large is $4, by ordering a cup of homemade iced coffee for only $4.5, I should say they give a generous size of beverages. And the owner happily accept my request for 'less ice', which make the coffee taste just right, great combination between milk and espresso, silky but not watery. The crepes menu they have contains sweet and savoury, from banana & nutella to ham & cheese, but I won't expect for a 'Le Carpe Diem' quality crepe since their crepes are priced $6-8.
