There are lots of things on the menu which I am not familiar with, but the workers are patient and nice. My favorite was the spinach pie and bougasta parcel. This is a really relaxing and homey place to have a coffee and a piece of pie with free wifi and power outlet :)

How can you think when you are shovelling this sort of luxury into your mouth? I used to live just up the road and I was very careful not to stop in every day to buy a little treat, and I was fascinated to know that you could organise cooking classes, but I deliberately didn't look into it because all those gorgeous young Greek men, and what they usually turn into... I didn't want to go there. Not that there's anything wrong with being a big fellow, it's just not my destiny. I also have to say most of the actual ingredients are very good for you, walnut, semolina, honey, even Chocolate Loukoumi has rose water or rose syrup in it, and that's considered good for you by some ancient Greeks... So I shouldn't make it sound as if the food is not good for you; it's just not good for me. But if you want to treat yourself or someone who deserves a treat, this is not the worst thing you can do - stop and buy a selection of gorgeous delicacies from this authentic traditional Greek pastries shop. Or bring them there and have a coffee outside with a yummy plate. Probably nicer at home, because the outdoor seating is right by the bus stop on Henley Beach road, hardly a scenic view unless you like that sort of thing.

The Hang Bakery does all the usuals - flabby vanilla slice, pure sugar caramel slice, little marshmallow cones, donuts, coconut biscuits, cream buns, custard tarts, gingerbread men, jam berliners and loaves of fresh white bread. None of these items are particularly special - all standard, sugary fare without much flavour or finesse. I'm here for the Vietnamese Meat Rolls. Fresh baguette rolls filled with herbs and meat. You can get chicken, but my favourite is BBQ Pork. Not a bad lunch on your way home from the shops. You can also get a bag of prawn crackers or a soft drink or a pie. The pies aren't bad - I like the veal pie.

Aside from the amazing banh mi, there's a selection of savoury and sweet pastries, and I must say the sugared apple pie looks delicious too. Next time! If you're in the area and looking for a great value for money lunch, you can't go wrong with Hang's.

Two words: Meat Pizza…read more Remember these and you will make good choices when visiting Adelaide Lebanese Bakery. Avoid the pink building with the water fountain out the front (the local brothel, so I hear...) and walk into the shed like building next door to continue making good choices. Make an excellent choice by heading over to the display of beautiful baklava while your meat pizza warms up and choose at least two of these delectable treats. Realise that you have purchased lunch AND an afternoon snack for only a few dollars - probably around 5, and give yourself a little high five (try not to look like too much of a dork whilst doing this...) Spend the mounds of spare cash that you would have otherwise spent on lunch on an array of authentic Lebanese groceries. Do not, under any circumstances, be put off by the very basic presentation of this store. Accept the brilliant food and low prices for what they are - do not question excellence.

I've never even bothered to find out the name of the joint before, but have done the dusty hungover walk from my nearby house dozens of times. It is a tradition amongst my friends to come here for 'meat bread' when hungover - or as the Lebanese Bakery calls it 'meat pizza'. On your right as you enter is a big old woodfire oven and a list of breads you can order. A few are what we traditionally think of as pizza, most are delicious fillings wrapped in folded Lebanese bread. My favourites are the meat bread and the spinach and ricotta bread. Meat bread is a round lebanese bread, topped with spicy mince, tomato and onion, folded in half and cooked in the woodfire. Spinach and ricotta reminds me of a spanokopita, but better - a fresh lebanese bread, expertly folded into the shape of a triangle pasty and filled with friend spinach, red onion, spices and ricotta. DELICIOUS! Beyond the takeaway food, you can get fresh fruit and veg, yoghurt, cheese balls, halva, baklava (and other fresh nutty sweets), tinned food, cooking utensils, fresh breads, and some frozen foods too. Oh and a whole range of Lebanese music on tape and expired foreign candy. The staff are real friendly and this is a bustling little place on a Sunday afternoon.

But, I guess the outside of the store never really tickled my fancy. It is definitely not flash looking inside or out. There are no fancy tables, crockery or cultery. This is just good food served straight up! Lawash Bakery is serving up some really decent Lebanese food. If you love grilled meats, bread and flavour, well you have come to the right place. There are a few vego items to choose from, but I think this is more of a meat eating destination. There are a lot of options for you to choose from. Many different styles of grill, bread and accompaniments. You can order large platters for the table to share as well. I went for the mixed grill, that way I get to try a couple of different styles. It was great! Full of flavour, spices, slightly salty and smoky. Everything you want in a kebab. It was served on some really fresh pita and a side of lettuce, tomato and onion. That way you can wrap it up if you like. There was a whole lot of garlic in that meat and sauce too. So, maybe bring some mints to freshen up afterwards. I really liked the service and value here. I might have liked a few choices of sauces to go with my meat. But, it was cooked well and tasted brilliant. This is the type of place you want to go to fill up before a night on the town. Note, if you need to go to the loo, the bathroom around the back of the shop. But, be warned, it is really ewwww...

Like true German food, the pasty here is quite dense and heavy, but everything is sweet and tasty. Oh, and did I mention cheap? They have some German specialties like pretzels and an odd kind of doughy jam roll, along with the usual fare of muffins and vanilla slice and hedgehog slice. One you won't find elsewhere is their "Nut Corner", a delicious slab of chocolate coated crunchy nut slice, of crushed nuts held together with glucose and honey. YUM. Hello my week's worth of fat. But for $2.50, who could resist? Someone else maybe, but not me. They also have a deal for a cappuccino and a muffin for $4.00. The coffee when I had it was a little over-heated, but apart from that it was okay. The muffins are small compared to the rest of the sweets, but were moist and tasty. They also do a standard range of pies and sausage rolls to satisfy the lunch seeker, and soft drinks and carton iced-coffees. This is a great place for a cheap lunch, and a must-visit for lovers of bargain sweets!
