I really wish I could rate them higher because I think Jonathan has good intentions, but our…read moreexperience with Hazes was pretty terrible from start to finish. After experiencing water damage that required our wall, ceiling and floors be replaced, we reached out to Hazes in April 2022 to complete the project. The timeline for our project was initially supposed to take a week and a half and is still, technically not finished. The communication around when workers would be at the house and when they would have certain projects completed was never accurate- most days the workers came hours later than they said they would, sometimes no one would come at all when we were assured workers would be out that day. We were charged more than we had agreed to pay and have not been refunded for either the overcharges or for materials and labor that were never used. A $500 piece of furniture was damaged by the company while they were doing their work and we have been told insurance will cover it but that was awhile ago and I have very little faith we will actually see that money (I am happy to update this review if we should receive the money). I am giving 2 stars because the flooring and paint were done well, but everything else we asked them to do doesn't look great and will most likely need to be redone at some point. Again, I think Jonathan was stretched too thin with many projects at one time which is problematic but on some level understandable. What I cannot excuse was the really terrible communication around timelines, expectations, and budget and the fact that this project still technically has not been completed.

After talking on the phone, the owner came, looked at the house and immediately told me the price of the renovation. I thought it was a joke, but later I saw that people are very well organized and do their work in detail. We first renovated the basement and then the first floor of the house. I was not home for three weeks, when I came the work was almost finished, I was delighted with their work. The job was completed after 4 weeks as we agreed and a really warm recommendation from me for TCS Chicago.

I am actually in ELmwood Park - tried to update location but it did not show here. If I could give…read moreNelson 0 stars I would. I typically don't write reviews but this man is pretty much a scammer. He was pretty pleasant through contract signing for completing a basement with laundry room, bedroom, bathroom, family room & kitchenette. We were told the process would take 4 months. It took 8 with many days of him and his crew just not showing up. If you questioned him on anything he did, he would just not show for a while. He literally cut a 2 x5' hole in my upstairs family room hard wood without discussing it with me ahead of time to make headroom for the stairs. We are now a few years down the road from his work and paying over $10K to have the leaking shower totally torn out and redone. The new contractor discovered all the short cuts Nelson took from not overlapping the membrane, screwing holes through the membrane, not using treated wood, not even gluing in the quartz window ledge. AND he didn't even put a pea trap in our shower drain which was not even centered. Disappointed in Elmwood inspectors not catching that one. We also discovered after the fact that he installed PVC for our dryer vent (which is not code). ABT will not hook up a new dryer until we get that replaced which will involve ripping out another wall. Our ventilation in the basement was not done properly either and have paid over $1,000 to try to remedy that but haven't been able to fully resolve the issues. These are just a couple of the major things but there is definitely more. We would have been happy to pay more to NOT deal with all of the headaches Nelson caused. Save yourself the hassle and find another contractor.

Shh.... I found these guys on "Angie's list". to paint my house....Yelp's mortal enemy. Don't tell…read moreanyone. ..... Angie's List......where people who own houses and don't go out to eat rate things...... 6000 bucks for the outside of a 2500 sq ft 3 story cedar house and 3 plus car gargage. It took them nearlly 6 full days of working in 90 degree heat to do the job. Yes the "gecmastr" spread is massive. Like my brain (and boobs). First, charming and friendly Tim will come and quote you the house painting, drop off flyers, pick colors and answer the endless questions you'll have. Questions like: Will you caulk around my flower hooks? Will you remove old chalk and peeling paint, how will you be careful with my plants? what type of paint? How will you paint behind gutters? Will you take my screens out? Will you not leave paint chips arund for the dog to eat?.... These are just a selection of the hundreds of questions I asked. Tim gladly came back several times to answer questions and help me pick colors. After he's done answering 1000 questions, he'll amuse you with tales of growing up "downers grove style" with Tommie "no neck" and Joey "bag of donuts". The younger dude would came to power wash the house willingly moved tons of firewood away from the house and moved my rain barrel etc. Super nice and super helpful. I even ended up giving him career advice . Yes, I have a career outside of Yelp. When the day finally comes (after 1/3 deposit), movie star pretty Mark stopped by and applied color samples to the house for me to pick from. I'm not kidding, this guy makes that Ty Pennington somebody from HGTV looks like Seabuscuit. I should have been more indecisive with the color picking so he could come back for me to gaze upon some more. Mercy. oh Mercy my! I had "Able's" team and they showed up on time each day, never left a mess, scaped the paint and caulk on the house with tiny tools for days before they started painting and were always nice. The precision which the caulk and paint was applied is exactly how I woudl do it myself. Very nice. What I really liked was I made it clear the gate needed to stay closed at all times due to my dog. They were great about this even though they were using the gate all the time. The dog sometimes wanted in on the action and they were always kind and generous with her. They were always careful when they needed to paint the doors with the pets inside. A plus for them. They took the vertical gutters down and measured and painted the part that was against the house one color and the part aginst the trim another color. It looks great and I am amazed the color measuring was so perfect. And MArk showed up at the end to do the final walk thru with me... sweet! In all, the house looks great and I am really happy with how carefully everything was done. I would hire hem again.

Back in May, my neighbor generously gave us her old above-ground pool. I posted on yelp that we…read morewere looking for someone to help move and install it. MRJ responded, claiming they had the experience to do the job. Unfortunately, hiring them turned out to be a mistake. Despite his claims, it's now clear that he did not know how to properly install a pool. The liner was left with large wrinkles, and nearly every gasket was left loose causing continuous leaking. I had asked for the pool to be dug into the ground slightly, but the base was left noticeably uneven. We are first time pools owners so we didn't know that liners are actually supposed to be installed during warmer weather and obviously they didn't either cause they went ahead and tried doing the job despite it not being warm. He did return once to "fix" one of the leaks, but the problem persisted. I notified him right away that the leak was still there, and while he said he'd come back, he never did. At that point, I didn't even bother to follow up. This job was completed while my wife and I were at the hospital expecting our baby, so we weren't able to supervise or catch all the issues until it was too late. He also didn't bring the proper tools and ended up borrowing some of mine just to get the job done. Ultimately, we were left very unhappy with the results and had to hire someone else to correct the mistakes. The new installer informed us that the pool had previously been cut and resized, something MRJ never noticed or mentioned. This now confirms to us that he likely had little experience with pool installations. Had we known about the pool being cut, we would've just purchased a new one from the start and avoided the additional expenses we're now stuck with. In the end, we're essentially starting from scratch again. While they were courteous in person and hardworking (moving the pool, and digging a whole with only a shovel) the job was poorly done, and we were misled about their expertise. I would not recommend Mr. Repairman Jr Remodeling and Construction for any pool-related work.
