My realtor came across Bite Away Termite & Pest Control through a referral in our search for a company to handle a pest inspection of an investment property we were interested in acquiring. I was completely unaware of any such businesses in San Diego since we currently didn't have any properties in the market. Sadly, the ones I've used and familiar with in Los Angeles County didn't service outside of their region. Of course, it was always nerve-racking to deal with an unfamiliar vendor especially when there was a lot at stake. Would this company's inspection take a bite out of any potential pest or termite issues!?

Multi-Family Wood Destroying Inspection "Termite Inspection" ($149.00): With three distinct structures and five separate units on the lot, this was more than fair. I wasn't aware whether or not there was a detailed rate card or if the price was negotiable since I didn't book the service. A detailed and thorough digital report (a small enough report easily printable at home) was available in less than 24 hours that highlighted various areas on the property with accompanying recommendations.
SERVICE
From scheduling the appointment, payment was handled after the inspection, and communication, everything was extremely smooth. Craig Fortes was our inspector, and he was very businesslike and on a mission to complete his work. We stayed out of his way so as not to slow him down. Once he finished, he briefly gave us some notes, but ultimately, he said to wait for the full report. Since their business was all about coming to your location, out of courtesy you tried to have a convenient spot for them to park their vehicle. Otherwise, they were more than happy to park out on the street.

Although I'm sure they had an actual main office, that was rather inconsequential since the real place of business was at any given property where the service was needed.

Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops.
OVERALL
I was confident with my first time hiring Bite Away Termite & Pest Control and would definitely keep them in mind if we decide to look for more investment properties in their coverage area. Their rates were on-par with other vendors I've used, the complete report of the entire property was concise and easy to understand, the inspector was all business, and the communication was efficient. Now, it was a matter of how much the seller was willing to work with us based on the report, whether repairs would be done, credits would be applied to the purchase price, or the deal falls through. And, whenever possible I liked to support small family-owned businesses (they seemed "small" enough). I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $149.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip).
