I attended the virtual PMP boot camp from October 16 to 19 with Joe Drammissi as my instructor. The content of the lessons was really helpful to get a holistic introduction to the PMI body of knowledge. Joe was a wonderful instructor. He explained the concepts effectively and concisely, with practical examples. His explanation also came with useful exam tips that really helped during prepping and taking the exam later. The studying portal on the PMA account was quite useful as well. There're so many resources I think I only used half of what's provided. The reference sheets (e.g. ITTO sheet, process groups, Agile/Predictive Quick Study Guides) were especially helpful. read more

I signed up with Project Management Academy to help me prep for the PMP exam. After hearing so many great reviews on Yelp as well as other colleagues rave about it (at other locations in the Bay Area). However, my experience was much different than everyone else. I understand the contest is very dry, however my instructor spent 4 days dictating slides to us. It was beyond painful to say the least, we had a class of 6 people total, so i thought maybe we would have some real world examples, class discussions to help us better understand the materiel. Nope,no of that, just 4 days of an instructor dictating slides in a monotone voice. However the content is setup very well and the material is well thought out. Most reviews are for Jeff, Jeff was not my instructor. The other thing i found different, compared to any other training I have attended in my professorial career, is that there was no food or drinks provided? What is up with that? They give you about an hour for lunch, but anything in walking distance to the hotel is SLAMMED at lunch time, so you will spend that hour responding to emails and waiting for food! By the 3rd day i started to brown bag it so i could have some time to respond to emails and phone calls. After taking this class, I still have alot more studying to do! I attended online live training led by the wonderful Joseph Drammissi in Dec'22 It was four days long but it flew by - Joe was super engaging. He went through topics at a good pace: he constantly repeated concepts that were important for the exam, told us to flag certain topics for detailed review for the exam, and was always willing to answer questions during class. Joe was also a lively instructor. Although it was online virtual, I had no trouble staying focused because Joe taught concepts in an engaging way and allowed us with necessary breaks so that we could push through this marathon at a sustainable pace. The PMA materials were great - it was a combination of slides that came directly from PMI as well as PMA slides that were crucial to understanding the full picture. I loved the extra print outs that PMA had - the ITTO sheet was a life saver - it showed you all the PM processes, with its critical inputs, tools, techniques and outputs. The online portal exams were excellent to review concepts learned in class. I am glad I took this bootcamp. It provided the necessary foundation for the PMP exam which is now half Agile focused. What you experience and gain out of the bootcamp is a two way street. You as a student also need to stay engaged and ask questions and participate in discussions. I think that's how I learned concepts and made them "stick" in my memory. read more

If you are considering PMP training, Project Management Academy is the organization to go with. I attended the PMA bootcamp in San Jose from June 3-6. My initial impression of PMA was very good due to the quality of the online portal, class enrollment process and learning materials provided. Our instructor, Jeff Hogan, is what really made the whole experience nothing short of incredible! Over the course of 3 days, Jeff did an amazing job of taking me and 23 other students through PMBok, start to finish, as well as providing very applicable tips and tricks to pass the PMP exam. Jeff is so good that with just the 3 days off classroom instruction, I was able to score a passing grade on the mock exam taken on the last day of the course. This score was a nearly 25 point increase from a practice exam I had taken prior to the PMA bootcamp. I took a class virtually hosted by Joseph Drammissi from November 15-18, and I didn't notice a single bit of disparity between the virtual class and classes I've taken in person in the past. Joe did a tremendous job facilitating, and I felt more than prepared with some studying after the class ended to take the exam and do really well. It was lots of material to cover, but Joe kept up a great pace throughout and placed special emphasis on the processes and knowledge areas, as well as their inputs and outputs that proved very helpful. The course was mostly slides from PMI, but I did appreciate the clarifying material added by PMA. The test itself seems to have evolved and there's less focus on memorizing, more on understanding overall concepts. I never would have passed my test without his boot camp instruction and tips and tricks. He managed to break down a LOT of material in a way that made it not so overwhelming and he helped prepare the class in the art of test taking (how frustrating the questions would be, trick questions to watch out for, PMP test logic, etc.) Jim links you to his LinkedIn and e-mail address and lets you e-mail him with any and all questions. Even after the boot camp was over and I was studying, I would e-mail him questions that needed clarification. PMA was my second attempt at prepping for the exam, and I can't speak more highly of our instructor, Jeff Hogan. We had a full class of 24 students, and other instructors would have a difficult time keeping everyone engaged -- Jeff had no such trouble. He is extremely knowledgable and funny, with anecdotes and examples for every topic. I appreciated Jeff's style, and definitely benefitted from his tutelage, earning a "passing" (PMI) grade on the mock exam on the last class. If you are considering PMP exam preparation and are nervous about an online format - choose PMA. I recommend the PMA Bootcamp and Lenora H., who led the online course I took. I was nervous about taking an online 4-day boot camp course but in the days of COVID that was my best option and I believe PMA & Lenora has done it well! The boot camp was tough, being online, but Lenora did a great job leading the course. I took the weekend version - 2 weekends, Saturday and Sunday for 8 hours each day (after working full time during the week). Lenora was in touch with the ebbs and flows of being online for so long and keeping things engaging. All participants have the ability to contribute to the class via a chat and Lenora reads and engages with those chats. After the Bootcamp, Leora makes herself available for further questions via email. If I had a question about a topic or a missed practice exam question, I could email her and I think within a day she would respond!! Prior to my signing up to the Bootcamp, I emailed PMA and their responses were quick and generally helpful. Outside of the Boot Camp itself, the materials (all accessible online) provided by PMA were essential to my passing the PMP. PMA provides a roadmap of what one can do to study and prepare for the exam after the boot camp--this was what I needed. I took the online proctored exam yesterday and I passed. Russ is an extremely competent instructor whose approach to teaching the material will give you confidence that you will be successful. I came out of my class with a clear objective about what I need to do to continue my study. For 3 days, you're going to be drinking from the firehose. At night, you're going to have dreams about CPI and EAC calculations; you'll start talking to your significant other about network diagramming, and you'll be looking for free float in everything you do! But, by the 4th day, you'll be very pleased by how much you actually retained. I really enjoyed my class, and Russ is our PMP sherpa, who is committed to seeing us through to passing our exam. I recently took the in-person PMP boot camp course with Jeff Hogan in San Jose, CA, and I cannot stress enough how much he and this course helped me. I was able to pass the PMP on my first attempt, but be aware that you will also need to follow the "after-class" study plan that Jeff provides, THOROUGHLY, to be able to pass the exam. And yes, you DO actually still need to read the PMBOK a couple of times, but the class structures the material around the book uniquely, and makes it much easier to understand the concepts as some content in the book is very dry. Jeff also uses an open-format type of class discussion, so it was nice being able to connect a lot of examples with the concepts, and asking questions to clarify your knowledge gaps tremendously helps! Overall this course was worth the money and time, even if you're not going for the PMP and want to brush up on your project management knowledge. Highly recommended! read more

I took the PMP boot camp with Jeff Hogan in May 2017. I passed my test on the first attempt and I believe it was largely because of this class. Reading the PMBOK without any coaching is confusing, dull, and difficult to synthesize the important material due to the sheer volume of what is contained. Taking the class with Jeff made the flow of the information, and, the flow of the processes throughout the project very clear and easy to understand. Jeff is an excellent instructor: knowledgeable, open, fun, patient; I could go on. The materials in this course are also outstanding. I used both the in-class and online resources during my study and found them to be more than adequate. For me personally the questions on the exam itself were simpler than those we practiced in class and what was on the practice tests from PM Academy. read more

Took the course with Jeff Hogan in San Jose early in the year, passed the PMP exam a month later. Without any prior knowledge of PMBOK, my jaw dropped to the floor when I received the hard copy in class on the first day. @#$%%^^&*@#$ ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? There is NO way we can boot camp this book in 3 days of lecture. To my surprise, we did finish and I did better than I ever imaged on the mock exam taken on the last day. Somehow Jeff's lecture all sunk in the night before the exam... this is how good he is. A few thoughts to share with others taking the exam. I will say I wish I took the exam much sooner after completing the course (like within 2-3 weeks). The online study resources offered by PMA website is excellent. The mock exams really helped with pacing strategy (4 hours of exam is very brain draining). Personal opinion, the actual exam questions tend to be more reading comprehension than the mock exams from PMA website. Jeff will provide the big picture and key details/concepts that will help you score a few points but you will need to fill in the rest to do well on the exam (IMHO). Good luck! read more

The education received was worth the high price. The instructor, Jeff Hogan, was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, friendly, engaging, and efficient. He gave us a solid baseline to work from, and after the course I feel like I have the right tools and path necessary to pass the exam. PMA customer service, from what I heard, is also top-notch. The review is specifically for Jeff Hogan as an instructor. Jeff was in a word, lovely. He was personable, patient, and made great effort to clarify concepts that are needlessly complicated. This course would have been deeply painful without Jeff's compassionate nature and care in instruction. I have not taken the PMP exam yet so my opinion of the actual PMA course may warm if/when I pass, but I would give the actual course 3.5-4 stars. I was frustrated with the volume of grammar/syntax errors in the course slide deck (especially the abundance of improper apostrophes), especially the error on the slide that discusses how important it is for project managers to ensure their communication is clean and free of errors. read more

I notice there are not a lot of reviews, if any, for any of the local PMP training providers so it's hard to pick one, or at least it was for me and the others I spoke with. Not finding any information about most of the providers, I had to take a chance and pick based on my schedule and the information on each provider's Web site. So I picked PMA because the schedule was good, because the class was guaranteed to run, their web site was well designed (which I hoped reflected in their product), and the fact that there were no complaints I could find online (but not really any reviews either way). Note that one of their competitors, CPrime, is good as I understand it, and while CPrime's course is a bit cheaper, when I was looking at their schedule they were not guaranteed to run the course. I guess each person has their own needs, but I found it was worth paying the little extra to make sure the course wasn't cancelled. It took a lot to setup the time to be out of the office 4 days, I didn't want to go through that for nothing. So I signed-up for the PMP boot camp that PMA offers, not sure as to whether or not it would be worth the expense; but once I was in class I could see it was going to be well worth it. They really put some thought into the structure of the instruction. They course runs over 4 days, with lots of focus on lecture for 3 days, then review questions. 4th day was mock testing and review, and advice on how to move forward. Despite the highly structured course content there was plenty of time and opportunity to ask questions, have group discussions, share ideas, etc... The instructor that was provided was good, friendly, engaged, had a sense of humor, and kept the long days interesting. They days were long, but with Sam's demeanor and method, it didn't feal as long. As for training materials, it's fairly condensed, but it's the proper amount of information you need to cover the subject matter and to effectively pass the test. I have taken other boot camps where they are just tactical and teach you a minimal amount just so you can pass the test, but barely. PMA's camp was not like that; while their main concern is that they pass the test, they make sure to emphasize/instruct you on all the subject areas. Keep in mind some of the subject areas are small and obvious, so you won't spend hours on learning them, but I guess the best way to put it is that they spend the right amount of time on each area. PMA has a money back assurance, if you follow their requirements. I didn't put too much faith in before signing up, however I could see after the instructor discussed how it works that they are quite serious about the offer. I think the key is that they expect most people to pass the PMP exam. Frankly, in my opinion, if you are at this level you should not have to rely on the money back offer, and if you can't pass the test it's not because the boot camp wasn't good enough. Another plus is that since each of the 4 days is so long they made sure food was provided for the class (this is the San Jose location), both breakfast and lunch. For breakfast the instructor just brought in fruit, bagels, pastries, and for lunch we were able to order off a small but varied menu from one of the local restaurants (a different one each day, but mostly sandwich shops, e.g.: Panera, LaBoulangerie, etc...). The menus had something for everyone, so as a vegetarian I was covered. Lastly, once you are done with the boot camp, they are very open about post camp support. They take unsolicited feedback well, and they ask for feedback about their course. They want to know if you passed, failed, or didn't take the test. They will answer any follow-on questions and help where they can to help you get through the PMP exam. So I had all good stuff to say, nothing negative. I am amazed actually because I'm a fairly critical thinker and always look for positive and negative in everything, but nothing negative here. The only negative thing that happened in the entire camp was that an attendee registered very late, in the 5 days before the camp. Normally they mail you the PMBOK book they provide, but if you register late then you pick it up in class. When the attendee got to class she realized she didn't have a book and there wasn't one waiting for her... But it was no biggie, the instructor gave her his; problem solved. And Sam was so well versed, he knew the book like the back of his hand and was able to recite the information, and page numbers just out of memory; pretty darn impressive. read more

I took the PMP bootcamp this week led by Russ Thornley. I took a bootcamp last year with PM Accelerated Learning Services and enjoyed Project Management Academy's style and material much better. Russ is also a great instructor and professor. If this is going to be your first bootcamp, please note that PMP material is extremely bland. There's no exciting way to teach it. You have to go into the bootcamp knowing that you will take the PMP exam soon so you will remember the material and stay interested throughout the course. The mock exam (200 questions) and timed practice tests are full of questions similar to that of the real exam. Highly recommended from someone who attended two different style bootcamps. read more

Did my PMP Bootcamp with Jim Higgins Dec 14th. Got my PMP Jan 8th! Note that the PMA Bootcamp itself is not enough to pass the test. I equally put as much time (if not more) doing self study. PMA has excellent tools on their website and from the class that really helped. The class was a good place to ask questions and absorb some information in a classroom format. Its best to be prepared going to class since they do run through material very quickly (the goal is to pass the exam, not necessarily master every concept). Make sure you take at least 3 practice exams! read more

I took the PMA four-day Project Management Exam Preparation Class during the last week of March, 2021. There were eight students in our class and our instructor was Joe Drammissi from San Diego. I enjoyed the class tremendously. I wanted to point out the PMA materials are very good, but what is most outstanding is our instructor, Joe. To help us learn, Joe used many real-world examples to illustrate his point. Throughout the class, he would repeat important points to help us recall the key concepts, and pointed out which page we should find the information in the reference books, so when I started to study on my own, I was able to get to the information quickly. Although we had a lot of materials to cover, Joe always paused to give us opportunities to ask questions. We were never rushed, and we were encouraged to give comment, or to share our perspectives or our reactions to the lessons. Often Joe would use this opportunity to clarify and add his take on PMI's perspectives, and to share the "big picture". This is actually crucial for me, because by recognizing the "big picture" and the logic behind the project management processes, I was able to recognize the "call of the question" more readily during the exam and able to pick the right answer. Joe also provided many strategies for exam success. For example, Joe suggested we all read the entire Agile Practice Guide, and not just the highlights. Joe also reminded us to do as many practice exams as possible. We had a lot of anxiety over the new exam format, and Joe offered suggestions on how to best prepare ourselves to overcome our anxiety. PMP Boot Camp: San Jose CA Nov 16-19 2015. Passed the exam (first attempt) on Dec 30, 2015. Once I committed myself to a schedule to get my PMP, I knew a training program is what I needed. CJ Mills, our instructor, was both knowledgeable and engaging; he made the learning experience enjoyable. The boot camp gave me a solid foundation in the PMBOK processes/knowledge areas. I signed up with a competitive organization only to have the class cancelled. I was lucky because I then signed up with the Project Management Academy. They offer so much more in training materials than just the PMBOK. The highlight of the course was the instructor, Jeff Hogan. Jeff has a thorough understanding of the material and a thoughtful way of communicating the information. After four full days with Jeff I have confidence that with continued study, I'll pass the exam. If you are looking to pass the PMP exam, the Project Management Academy and specifically Jeff Hogan can put you in the position to pass! You could tell he really knew his stuff and really genuinely wanted to help you prepare to pass as much as he could! I passed the exam on the first trial. I took the online version as it was during Covid. It was mentally draining for me trying to soak in all 49 processes in 4 days, but you'd have to do your own in-depth studying after the boot camp if you want to succeed. Because I'm usually not a good test taker, I studied 3 weeks straight after the Bootcamp. PMA offered plenty of resources in their portal once you have access. If you manage your time well and take advantage of most of the resources in the portal, I think you'd do fine. I also went to several Friday webinars (also one of the resources you get). I attended Gary Lind's webinar one week and it was super helpful for me. Best PMP prep taken ever. It's definitely worth the money. I say this because I paid for the class out of my pocket. The instructor was Jeff Hogan, very professional yet balanced humor in his teaching. He made the class fun and worth while. I learned tramendous amount of information in a short period time, thanks to his ability to breakdown the PMP materials to something more manageable. Even after the class, he reached out to his former students and proactively offer his aid. While I was having an issue getting my PMP application, he immediately found a PMA resource to help me. I recommend PMA and Jeff Hogan if anybody is considering a PMP certification. It's worth your time and money. read more
