This was exactly what I needed to get familiar with a professional woodshop and all the essential tools. The class accomplished its main goal perfectly: giving beginners hands-on experience with the equipment in a safe, structured way. Over two Saturday afternoon sessions (3.5 hours each), we made a simple candle holder while rotating through practically every major tool in the shop. We used the sliding compound miter saw, jointer, planer, table saw, band saw, router, and various sanders. While the project itself wasn't particularly exciting, it was clearly designed to maximize tool exposure rather than create a masterpiece. David was an excellent instructor who prioritized safety above all else and patiently answered every question. The class size of about 10 people felt just right for getting individual attention. The woodshop itself is impressive with a fantastic selection of professional-grade tools. Parking was easy and the classroom was simple to locate. At around $150 per person, it's not cheap, but felt reasonable considering you're getting access to thousands of dollars worth of equipment and quality instruction. Just expect to get covered in sawdust! We had plenty of time to complete our project without feeling rushed. This class is perfect for complete beginners who want to learn woodworking basics in a supportive environment. It's specifically designed as a safety prerequisite for their more advanced classes where you can tackle more interesting projects. If you're thinking about woodworking as a hobby or just want to try it out, this is an ideal starting point. I'm definitely planning to take more classes here.

I will definitely be doing more paintings on my own in the near future!

I had previous experience in woodshop classes I took at Mount Tam high school in Marin, so I wasn't a novice. I paid the fee and enrolled in the class. However, when I met the teacher Ray, he decided not to let me take the class. I think he just didn't like me. Disappointed, I tried to get a refund but the school wouldn't give it to me, so I had to open a dispute with my bank. None of my calls or emails to the school or the teacher were ever returned regarding the class or the possibility of taking future classes. It felt like the class was a private club not open to outsiders. Its this kind of elite snobbery that gives rich cities like Palo Alto a bad name.

This is for the Autobody Repair and Welding night courses only…read more The autobody repair with McTaggert was great. Structured classes. Takes you from banging out dents to welding holes and body filler. No paint in this class. If you are looking for job training then I wouldn't recommend the evening class as you wont learn/practice enough to become job proficient. I would assume his day class would get you there though. He is thorough and supportive. If you are like me who wants to learn for a personal project it is perfect. The welding course is good if you have had a bit of welding experience. It is very self directed and you only get feedback if you ask. The supply of equipment and materials makes it worth the fee alone. If you are willing to do a bit of out of class studying (youtube/welding books/forums) and apply it in class you will benefit immensely from this class. I spent all 4 months at the tig bench and sometimes prepped materials at home (and welded too-I bought a tig shortly after class started because I knew I liked it once I tried)so I can better use my time. After 4 months most people asked if I welded for a living.

We enrolled from when she turned 18 mos until roughly 4 yrs old and transitioned to TK at the school district. We have taken classes from all the teachers (Teacher Ashwini, Priti, and Brenda) and we love them all. What my daughter gained: socialization with peers, how to share and take turns, exposure to the school atmosphere (she learned to sit and participate during circle time and storytime, sing songs, enrichment in various activities like painting, building, etc.). She loved school and enjoyed having me there to guide her and experience school with her. What I gained: became a confident and better parent through the parenting discussions held in-class and observation of teachers and fellow parents, made new friends with other like-minded parents enrolled in the program, combat my loneliness and isolation as a stay-at-home parent. If you are on the fence about whether or not to give this class a try, I say do it! It is an amazing program and I wish I knew about these classes for my older child.
