Took the SIE at this testing center and had a swell experience. The only downside is the front door of the building was locked, so I had to jog around to the back entrance. Overall, even the downside paid off with the positive effects of getting my blood pumping. The check-in process was smooth, and the testing room was a bit chilly, but comfy. I recommend visiting the bathroom (pictured below) near the stairwell on the same floor as the testing center. As you can see, it's quite nice.

We're here at the Prometric center right now. There is a long line of people who had appointments at 8 am. They just told us we have to wait until 8:30 so that they can tell us if we can take our tests or if we have to reschedule! Reading the old reviews, apparently it's a pattern with Prometric. I've taken online test with Prometric before and it was a disaster. I kept getting disconnected and they wanted to reschedule me. I persisted and kept calling their technical support for several hours that day until they let me finish the exam. This time I scheduled at their test center to avoid that traumatic experience but apparently they can mess it up as bad as their online service. Update: it's 9:10 am still waiting. One of their staff came out and announced that for a specific type of test they have to reschedule. (After waiting 70 minuets)

Testing... *shudders* definitely not one of my favorite things to do, but it had to be done. And I think Prometric Testing Center was a decent place to take the GRE for the first time. I know how anxious people get before the big exam day, so hopefully this walkthrough will ease your nerves. My exam was scheduled for 1 PM, so I showed up around 12:30 PM. Parking here is no problem at all during that time since the building has its own private lot. Find the stairs and go up. Look for the directory and make your way toward Prometric Testing Center's front door. If you continue down the same hallway, you'll find the restrooms, which was pretty convenient. Once you're ready, it's time to head on in. They'll ask for your ID and present you a form to fill out if you've never tested with them before. Once that's done, they'll give you a key to place ALL of your belongings in a locker (water, pencils, pens, watches, etc). The staff member will take you into the second room where they will make you lift your pant legs, empty your pockets, and scan you with a handheld metal detector. Then the proctor will go over the rules with you, take a photo of you, make you sign a log saying you've checked in, and provide you with your booklet of scratch paper and pencils. And finally, your big test awaits. You get seated in a decently spacious cubicle with a pretty comfy leather seat. There's a set of bulky yellow "noise cancelling" headphones available for you, which only muffle the surrounding noises and very much compress the life out of your head and ears. For the GRE, there is one scheduled 10 minute break although you really don't get 10 full minutes. Every time you leave the testing room, you have to sign out with the staff, and then you have to undergo the same empty your pockets/metal detector test procedure and then sign back in once you come back. This process shaves off approximately 2-3 minutes of your break. So make sure you give yourself enough time to check in again. And after all the 4 hours of pain and suffering, you will be D O N E! With that being said, good luck! I wish you all the best with your exam. --- WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS PLACE: - They start you on your own time. If your GRE is scheduled at 1 PM, they don't wait for the entire group to show up and everyone starts at the same time. If you walk in early at 12:30 PM and there are open seats, they will go ahead and get you started. - All the staff I encountered were pretty friendly, and my proctor even cracked jokes to lighten the mood before I started. She was also very clear with presenting the instructions. - The set-up of the individual testing station was great. They have dividers on both sides of you, and I barely noticed people entering or leaving the room behind me. The seat was pretty comfortable too, so that was another plus! WHAT I DIDNT LIKE ABOUT THIS PLACE: - Signing in and out took a little bit more time than I would've liked. I know they do it to prevent cheating, but a 10 minute break is already short for a 4+ hour exam. And it sucked having it turn into a ~7 minute break with having to sign in and out. - The headphones are a pain. 4 hours after I finished my exam, I still feel the straining pressure of them... and they don't block out all noise. I unfortunately had to find this out after listening to the guy next to me anxiously tapping his finger on the desk minute after minute and the random coughs.

I was really scared to prepare for the GRE, but the class definitely gave me all the direction and help I needed to feel like I could take down this test. The teachers are super empathetic and encouraging and I genuinely had fun in these classes. I was originally worried about it being impersonal since it was on zoom, but the classes were so interactive! I felt engaged throughout the whole class (and they are 3 hours). A month after the verbal course ended, Marty reached out to see how I was doing and took the time to review my practice exams and give me direction on how I can improve on my essays/timing. Andrew took the time to meet with me after the quant class ended to go over my study plan, sending me extra resources and taking time out of his own schedule to give me that extra boost. It's scary ending the class and being on your own, but they did such a great job providing extra support I feel confident I can achieve my goal score. For the quant course there are office hours available too, which are great for getting individual questions answered. Yuri is running most of those now and he's so helpful, plus a pun master. You'll roll your eyes at some jokes, but you'll also be learning tricks of the trade from the GRE master :-). The teachers really care about their students and it makes me so glad I chose to sign up! If you're hesitating, I say you should go for it! You won't regret it!

My younger son who was applying for high school, used Elite Prep's tutoring service to help him prepare for the High School Placement Test (HSPT). He was in the 70-80 percentile range when he first started taking the diagnostic exam, and he ended up getting 99 percentile on the actual test. He got in his #1 choice high school. Elite's test prep programs are not magic. It's not like you pay, then boom, you are guaranteed with high scores and admissions to top schools. The student has to be highly motivated, and put in lots of time, effort and sweats. Elite is there to guide the students and they know what they are doing, but they can't make "magic" happen if the student doesn't do their portion of hard work. For example, both of my boys did 4-6 months of test prep on their own with weekly practices, in addition to Elite's programs. That's what it took to reach their academic goals.

She was an absolute nightmare to deal with and has zero emotional intelligence or tact to deal with young teens !! She preys on parent's weaknesses and has clearly understood parents would do anything for their children as long as she says things like she got admission into MIT, Ivy's and self proclaims that she is the absolute best college consultant who will make your child write the absolute best essays he can ever write !! (I am paraphrasing it but she said something like that to me in our first meeting !). She made it amply clear even before I met for the first time that all she cares about is money and nothing else ! She charged me $300 per hr saying it's "the weekend rate" - whatever that means (although her website only mentions 250 per hr ). She was laser focused on the money in our conversations and showed zero interest in knowing my child before or after the meeting. Her website says parents will get a detailed report within 24 hrs of the first meeting, and we received no such report. The first meeting was a complete disaster. She was so rude (and please don't say she is strict/tough /good etc). No - she was plain rude and not good as a counselor !! My son was so scared of her that after a point stopped answering even basic questions ! She gave as little info as possible in the session and made it laborious by asking my son to type out literally every word that came out of her mouth (all of it was just general info and nothing anyone wouldn't know about college admissions)! Despite all these negative signals, I still tried to go ahead with scheduling a few more sessions, because believe it or not, my son insisted he wanted to try her a bit more before giving up ! I wanted to understand how many sessions my son would need and in her response she had the audacity to say my child was a "non high functioning" kid and hence would probably need many sessions (being vague and open ended of course to milk as much money as possible from me) ! The "genius" in her, inferred all this about my son from just the 1 hr meeting !! Not to brag - Honestly, my child is in a highly specialized gifted track at school and elsewhere and in fact the very reason I was looking for a counselor so early on was to make sure I give him all the advantages possible and guide him using the best counselors ! She quoted a ridiculous number of hours at the rate of $300 per hr and I told her , her website states she will only need 3-4 sessions for coming up with a 4 year plan and her response was "website is outdated " !!! (can you believe that ??) Parents, please be careful when choosing a counselor. Please make sure the counselor has the right emotional intelligence, credentials , experience to deal with your child in this vulnerable yet important stage of their life. Please don't select a counselor based purely on 5 star online reviews or what these counselors say they achieved for themselves. If in your initial interactions you detect the counselor's main focus is money, and not your child or if the counselor is rude, evasive about answering your questions , please take these red flags seriously and run miles away from her/him ! I am very thankful that I was able to detect this problem early on and not expose my child to a horrible 4 year counselling experience !
