My older son took the Elite Prep SJ Summer SAT program a few years ago. It prepared him well for his SAT. He became a National Merit Scholarship finalist and got 1580 on SAT. Although he ended up going to UCB which is test blind, but he also got in other top schools that do care about SAT scores. My younger son who was applying for high school, used Elite Prep's tutoring service to help him prepare for the High School Placement Test (HSPT). He was in the 70-80 percentile range when he first started taking the diagnostic exam, and he ended up getting 99 percentile on the actual test. He got in his #1 choice high school. Elite's test prep programs are not magic. It's not like you pay, then boom, you are guaranteed with high scores and admissions to top schools. The student has to be highly motivated, and put in lots of time, effort and sweats. Elite is there to guide the students and they know what they are doing, but they can't make "magic" happen if the student doesn't do their portion of hard work. In my high school student's first meeting with the counselor, she was told that it was going to be difficult to get into UC engineering schools or a good cal state school because of what level she was in Math. The counselor's facial expression, and tone conveyed a lack of encouragement and support. My child came out of the meeting very discouraged about her situation and decided not to go to Elite Prep because of this. She was able to find another prep company who was cheaper, more supportive, and less intense than Elite. She wound up getting into 4 UC's, two private schools, and 4 high quality Cal State schools, and is attending the engineering school of her choice. So don't be discouraged, there are other factors besides "being in the right level of high school course" or getting x score on your ACT/SAT (which is now totally irrelevant since colleges are no longer using these scores) read more

I am so happy that I choose Elite Prep for my daughter's college counseling. Anna Koh worked with her since ninth grade and helping her get into her dream college. The main reason why I would give Elite Prep San Jose five stars is because of the wonderful staff. All of the staff members are extremely dedicated to making sure that you are able to receive the materials and guidance needed to improve your test scores. I took a prep course for the SAT, and it extremely helped me with my score. I raised my SAT score (1600 scale) by 130 points! I can definitely say that I wouldn't have increased my score like that without Elite. The way that the schedule is set up is also very efficient, ensuring that every section of the SAT is properly covered by teachers who specialize in specific subjects. The programs are set up like classrooms, mimicking a typical high school setting, which deviates from the typical tutoring atmosphere. I actually quite enjoyed the way that the classes were set up, as having other students in the class allowed me to understand reviewed materials better while creating new relationships. They kept $500 of our money, fair enough, I guess--in the contract. However, they refused to even give us any of the education materials that come with the class. I am really happy to go to Elite Prep San Jose. The instructors are helpful and give you a lot of useful materials. Also, the staff is really nice and welcoming as well. Not only the SAT prep, they also have great programs preparing me for SAT subject tests and AP exams. My scores improved a lot on the real tests. I totally recommend the college application process. Never again will I come to this institution. These people are just scams that don't actually care about your child's success and only want money. My daughter took an AP Chem prep course here and my nephew took the AP world history course. Overall, both of them were very disappointed. For AP Chemistry, the teacher only came every other week. We paid almost a thousand dollars for someone who came only half the time. When the chem teacher didn't come, the students were given practice tests. There was nothing special about these tests. Elite literally just printed out the tests from the practice books and handed the kids the practice book explanation sheet. My daughter could have done this at home. Additionally, when their teacher did come, he didn't take the burden to teach and just assigned the students to learn from the practice book. The class went at a very rushed pace. The time allocation was very bad and was based off of what the TEACHER thought was easy and hard, not what the students were having trouble with. Actually, the teacher or Elite didn't bother to see how the students were doing. No effort was made to try to grade the students open response answers. They were just handed off packets that were printed out from the review book. The AP Chem class was not helpful at all and a total waste of money. There was nothing special in the class and it was nothing that couldn't have been done at home. Moving on to my nephew's experience, he was also very dissatisfied. Here is his response and thoughts about the class: The class had no structure. The teacher would cover random bouts of history. One week we would learn about one random part of history and then another week it would be about something else. This teacher didn't understand that the world history ap exam was about BREADTH not DEPTH. To make matters worse, when we were asked to write essays, the teacher did not grade it using the college board rubric. We would get marked off points for reasons that we didn't' know why. When we asked about what we did wrong, we got vague answers like "write the paragraph better" or "add more." Additionally, when the one of the parents expressed complaints about this, not much was done to change the class. Elite promised that things would changed, but they literally did NOTHING! The class carried on to be a continued waste of time. I got nothing from Elite except for a disgust and hatred for money-hungry institutions that don't care for their students. read more

Read the refund policy carefully before you sign up any exam here!! Signed up my child for an AP exam in 2020 seven days ago. Paid out of pocket over $300. We had a change of situation and couldn't take the test at the location any more. Called up for cancellation (we haven't received a code for registering the exam yet). I was expecting to pay some cancellation fees. But was shocked to learn their refund policy states they don't issue ANY refund for exams once you paid. This is supposedly covered in the "paperwork I signed". Very conveniently nobody bothered to explain to me any of this when I registered. *This review is for the SAT summer boot camp specifically* Very clear that this institute is after money. The homework they give students is tedious and unhelpful. Teachers are mediocre and never explain things completely. The only good things are the practice tests because they are more difficult than the actual test, which prepares students. However, paying all that money just for the tests is ridiculous. The director is always trying to squeeze money out of you. I would recommend getting a personal tutor or having your child self-study. There are many practice books available that work just fine. read more
