I'm 32 years old, and I have not attempted to do any math since high school. Math has always been my weakest subject, and it gives me anxiety. Now more than ever, make sure your kids are getting the support they need to be successful in School. Distance learning has its limits and teachers are overloaded with new processes, procedures. Education is challenged right now during Covid-19. We used Study Wizards for three years, even before this new normal, for our high school son, for a few of the more challenging STEM courses he was taking. My son has benefited from several gifted tutors recommended by Study Wizards. In his sophomore year he worked closely with Jon, who is a public high school teacher and who was very patient with my son and his unique personality. Jon was able to help my son across a range of subjects, monitored his grades and assignments, and helped him hone his organizational and study skills. At times Jon had to exercise great patience when my son was upset by some issue, such as problems with his girlfriend. Jon would help calm him down before getting down to business. Jon is hands on and collaborative in nature. It was a joy to see them working together -- I still remember Jon asking questions and providing tips while my son updated his essay on the computer. I found Study Wizards on yelp after my daughter received a surprise math grade last year. Not only did I want to get her grade back to a good place I also wanted to ensure that her confidence remained intact for the longer term. Study Wizards does not have their own location but rather Michael acts like a broker who connects you to a tutor who not only fits your kid but meets your academic needs and that tutor will come to your home. That was a huge convenience. Michael connected us to Jenny who is a fantastic woman and teacher--a really positive math role model for our daughter. She's approachable, fun, and non-judgemental. With her weekly visits we got the grades and kept her through this school year as well to maintain a steady state as things became more challenging. Now, a full year out our daughter has a solid A (from the surprise C+ one year ago) with no reservations from her teacher. We'll keep Jenny as long as we can. Not only in the tutors that they have provided for my daughter over the past four months, but their excellent customer service skills in making sure the parent is happy. Reema was my daughter's first tutor for Math, and she was able to connect with my daughter and get through to her during a difficult time in school. On top of being knowledgable in the topics, she also was able to make my daughter build some confidence and connect on a level for her to finally bring her grades up. The next tutor we got due to us moving to another location was Ying. Ying has been also agood match for my daughter, and even assigns her homework so she thoroughly understands her assignments, and can pull through during the week. We have used Study Wizards Tutoring twice over the past three years as my high school student needed some tutoring in Chemistry and AP Calc. Both experiences went very well and my son's grades were significantly improved after meeting regularly with his assigned tutors. Both tutors were excellent and patient with my student in helping him learn how to figure out problems on his own. An added bonus was the my experience with the business owner, Michael. He is detail oriented, a clear communicator and he strives to match the best tutor for an individual student's needs. I looked at the reviews and heard the tutoring was good, so gave them a call, but the customer service was terrible. Michael Goldstein told me they only had tutors after 7pm (which doesn't work with my child's sports schedule) or weekends. I asked if perhaps we could kick start things with some daytime tutoring before school starts, and he wasn't sure. I asked him if he could find out if that would be an option, and he said he didn't have time to ask the tutor unless I could commit to using him/her. I didn't get any information on the tutor and told him that I would like to at least meet with the tutor or get some information on him/her and know what times and days they were available before I committed. For $67/ hour I figured he would understand I wanted some additional information,. but he was inconsiderate and unwilling to try to work with me at all... or even get me further information. You would think in the tutoring business you would need to know your tutor's availability, but he seemed to feel I was asking far too much of him to request that. I rarely go on Yelp to send in reviews, but this person was extremely rude and his lack of understanding was incredible. Extremely unprofessional. Terrible customer service... or at least I think I was the customer. He sure didn't seem to think so. In response to Michael below - my son does not have any specific special needs... in fact he is in a math class a year above his age range and just needs some help. I just couldn't meet for tutoring at 7pm. I was clear that we needed a tutor, and are still looking, but you are correct that I was not willing to commit before having a specific offer of a day & time. And while you did offer a discount to $65/hour if we did 3 hours a week, I think you might be overselling the discount a bit. Unfortunately, I stand by every word of this review. read more

This year tutor Dane tutored my son in Algebra 2 and Chemistry. It again was a great experience. Dane was really good at both subjects and my son benefited a lot from the extra instruction. The tutors at Study Wizards are punctual, professional and go beyond basic tutoring. Tutor Nhi: Our daughters tutor, Nhi, was excellent in helping our daughter keep ahead of her class in physics. She would have Sarah study ahead and learn the lessons prior to the teacher demonstrating them in class. Our daughter excelled in Physics and it really boosted her confidence as a student. Nhi would help our daughter with keeping her notes organized to study from and would look ahead in the Physics book to outline their next lesson. Tutor Johnny: Johnny simply went beyond tutoring our son in English and Math. Our son is very quiet and really struggled with writing and doing math. Johnny focused on building on our son's confidence in himself, helped him to develop his "voice" in his writing, brought in forms/props that were used with AP Lit to show our son what the advanced students used to write their "A" essays/papers. He encouraged Nico to push himself to write beyond the basic sentence structure. Johnny has a natural gift when it comes to working with teens struggling to learn. There are few words that are worthy of Michael and specifically his tutor Justin. We've had the fortune of having Justin tutor my son for nearly 3 years now. When we met Justin, my son was having a very hard time in Jr High. He wanted to quit school, he was despondent and dreaded school. He was upset every night and homework took until midnight some nights. I found Michael through yelp and he quickly sent Justin to meet my son. Justin was not only a source of support with academics but psychologically too. My son quickly gained his confidence, stood taller, homework became easier and easier. We barely got him through junior high, and now he's in 10th grade, with all As and one B. He looks forward to Justin's visits, finishes his homework with ease and has plenty of time for video games. He enjoys projects at school and has a much better attitude towards school and a future with college. I credit this all to Justin. My son was earning B- in Chemistry and B- Geometry. He had no experience in either subject. Study Wizards' amazing tutor REEMA , worked to reinforce and reteach key components of these subjects and helped him prepare for exams. His grades and confidence went up in both subjects. I was looking for a tutor for my son for high school level math and Spanish. Study Wizards responded quickly to my inquiry and really wanted to get to know my son's challenges in order to find a tutor who would be a good fit. Michael, the director, found both a Spanish and a math tutor (who can also help with science) that are both a good fit for my son. My son gets a much better understanding of these two subjects from his tutoring sessions and has raised his grades in both areas. I used Study Wizards for my daughter during 7th and 8th grade for Algebra. She just graduated with High Honors and an "A" in math. My daughter was a fairly good math student who usually got a B+ or A-. She changed schools in 7th grade and was really struggling. I first called Kumon in Burlingame and they never returned my call. I found Study Wizards on the internet and gave them a call. The first tutor we had was competent but not a good match for my daughter. Michael (the director), quickly found a new tutor who was a phenomenal match for my daughter. She helped get the grades up from C/D to A/A-. Michael is very easy to work with as an administrator. He responds promptly by emails and also by calls. He listened and found a very good match tutor for my son with leaning handicap. This is my second year using Study Wizards for my children (high school age). Right now we're using two tutors, one for chemistry and one for Spanish. Last year we used Study Wizards for pre-calculus, as well. We were referred to Study Wizards by our private college counselor. This year we started with the Study Wizard tutors the first week of school. The tutors are exceptional in terms of knowledge and ability to relate to my children. I am especially impressed that the director, Mr. Goldstein, is in regular contact with me and the tutors to assess my children's progress and to hear any comments or concerns I have.
