My daughter is attending tutoring sessions with Henry for AP Chemistry. She met with Henry at the end of her fall semester AP Chemistry course. Before they met, Henry asked my daughter to make a list of topics that she wanted to review from the fall semester. During their first meeting, Henry reviewed the topics that my daughter needed more help in and explained to her his plan. Afterwards, Henry spoke with me about his approach to review the topics from the fall semester and build upon them to learn new concepts for the spring semester. Both of my sons have done private tutoring SAT prep with AJ Tutoring and we are very pleased with their service. My junior just finished tutoring with Lan Do at the San Jose location near Oakridge, and he surpassed even his own goal for the SAT score. My son had a difficult teacher for his Freshman year Biology class. Half-way through the year he became discouraged and started to loose interest in Biology. His grade was dropping so I reached out to AJ Tutoring in January to see if they could re-energize my son to maintain his first semester grade throughout the difficult second semester. AJ Tutoring helped me raise my SAT score almost 200 points! My tutor, Lan Do, was extremely thorough in her explanations which helped me distinguish between the right and wrong answers. During the last few tutoring sessions, she gave me a choice on what to work on and helped me improve in the sections I was struggling in (for me, definitely reading). We used AJ in Almaden area office and it was not a good fit for my son. His score were flat to down. Now we need to shell out more money for another tutor.  Update:. AJ reached out to us and offered some additional tutoring, which was very nice. We went with the new tutor anyway and my son's school went up 150 points and he did even better on the ACT. read more

My daughter has been with AJ tutoring since late Spring of 2020. We hired AJ tutoring to help supplement her math lessons during the shutdown. Over the summer, we added my son and they both have been with Myly Nguyen at the Willow Glen location ever since. Myly "makes math fun" as my kids have told me and she takes the time to also connect with them on topics that she knows they love - from sports to Harry Potter! Myly also meets with my daughter once a week to prep her for HSPT and that has really helped calm my daughter's nerves about the test and helped her to gain a little bit of confidence. Even as a 4th grader, my son felt like he was "not as smart as the other kids" (his words) in his class, especially in math. So before starting 5th grade, we reached out to AJ Tutoring in San Jose/Almaden Valley, and were connected with Heather Saidak. I was worried my son was on the young side for tutoring, but even after just a couple of meetings, he felt much more confident. Over the last 5 months I've used AJ for math tutoring for my 8th grade daughter and my 11th grade son. For the high price point, I am not very impressed. The sessions for my daughter lacked structure. I could see she wasn't getting anything out of it so I stopped taking her. My son only had a few sessions but I did not see any improvement in his understanding or in his grades. I was willing to give it some time however his tutor abruptly left and it's been impossible to reschedule with a new tutor. I was told the scheduling problem was because I waited until the following day to return their call. If they had mentioned in their phone call that I needed to call back within a certain time frame then I would understand. However that was not communicated to me until after our spot was given away. It's unfortunate as I was planning on using their test prep services for the SAT but I'll take a look elsewhere. read more

At the first class, Sheena tried to understand my son's needs and came up with strategic plans to help him improve his study skills and time management. My child had taken the SAT and had score high 1480. Before second attempt we went to AJ took private lessons. With the retake he got 1490. Paid a lot for just 10 points. The people are very nice they called me to check on this. However the program they have may not work if you are in this range. Just wanted people to know before spending a lot of money. read more

You can't go wrong with sending your child to AJ tutoring. I sent both my daughters to AJ for tutoring on the ACT. They both did great on the ACT with help from the tutors at AJ. My daughter Gillian is a senior in high school now and applying to colleges. She was tutored by Devin Shoop. He did a wonderful job preparing her for the ACT. She went up 3 points. With that point jump, she has increased her chances to attend one of her top choices of colleges. read more

I sent my 16 year old son to Joe Notar at AJ tutoring completely lost with a very low "F" grade in his math class. After a few weeks of tutoring we saw a great deal of improvement. He was very stressed to take his final exam, but I'm happy to say all the tutoring paid off and he did well. In fact he pulled his grade up two full letter grades and ended up passing with a C. Have to say we got a wonderful tutor. Our tutor was excellent! The only thing I would say is I wish the organization of the company was better. One person reels you in and another bills you and they do not really communicate with the tutor. They say only $140 an hour but lessons are really and hour and a half so they are 210 an hour which is really pricey. Wish these kids worked on the side. They could probably keep more money for themselves and there would be less problems. They sort of change the plan once you get going and we ended up payng about 700 more than originally quoted which is about 30% which I felt was a lot. If money is no object this is the place to go because the young tutors are very good. Again, can't say enough for the tutor but I know he was not getting to keep 210 for each session. ( wish he would) So thumbs up on the tutor thumbs down on the clerical and business side. read more

AJ Tutoring is EXCEPTIONAL. It trumps all other businesses in the tutoring business. I can say this based on the experiences of my two children who have gone there for SAT prep as well as AP tutoring. Both of my students initially tested very low, in the 1700 range. One of my kids participated in the 9 week test prep group and jumped to a whopping 2200. My other kid preferred to do a one to one tutor for 9 weeks. She also jumped to 2200. One attends UC Davis and is doing amazing, the other is at UC Berkeley.. My daughter was struggling with her AP Calc class during senior year in high school. We decided that the support we could get in tutoring was well worth what we paid for if it would make a difference. With AJ tutor support once a week in Calculus, her grade went from a C to a solid A, and she earned a 4 on her AP test. My last kid is now beginning his SAT prep with AJ tutoring. I cannot recommend this business enough. Not only for the professionalism and expertise of their tutors, but also for how high organized and supportive they are. AJ tutor has a tutor in virtually any AP subject matter. So, if your high school teacher is not very good, as many aren't, NO WORRIES. AJ tutor can carry you through the course. Every penny spent here was well worth it because it helped my kids get into the colleges of their choice. Also, it is extremely reasonable, and even much less than other test prep centers. Don't be fooled by fancy places, this is the place to go that can make all the difference. read more
