My son goes to Branham High School and struggling with the AP Calculus class. The teacher he had was not very good and my son was falling behind. In order to catch him up we signed up for tutoring with Doug Unger. Doug was AMAZING. He caught my son up the best that he could with the limited time he had and gave my son the confidence he needed to take the class. We just got back his test score and he passed with a 3. There is NO way my son would have been able to pass without Doug's help. My only regret is waiting to get a tutor (we signed up in April). Doug basically caught my kid up in 6 weeks. So a big thank you to Doug!!! read more

My daughter is attending tutoring sessions with Henry for AP Chemistry. She met with Henry at the end of her fall semester AP Chemistry course. Before they met, Henry asked my daughter to make a list of topics that she wanted to review from the fall semester. During their first meeting, Henry reviewed the topics that my daughter needed more help in and explained to her his plan. Afterwards, Henry spoke with me about his approach to review the topics from the fall semester and build upon them to learn new concepts for the spring semester. Henry is efficient and flexible in recognizing what my daughter needs help in. She says that he uses real life instances to illustrate a concept such as equilibrium to make it relatable. Henry has a lot of experience in tutoring the AP STEM courses. read more

I highly recommend AJ tutoring, Daniel did an excellent job working with our daughter for the SAT prep, He targeted coaching her on her weak areas based on the outcomes of practice tests. In her first attempt of SAT test taking she scored a 1550. Daniel was very professional in all his communications and had a good plan on coaching after understanding the student capabilities. read more

Daniel Creger is an extremely helpful tutor who really helps you understand topics that you have struggled in. A + Thank you!!! read more

My son has been lucky enough to get Myly as Tutor for the last couple of years. Myly is a very thoughful teacher and her classes are engaging, what my son really appreciates, and with the right focus and dedication. He enjoys Myly's classes what makes the learning process much easier. Myly was able to identify quickly my son's weak points and work on those so his improvement overall was consistent and obvious. Also, she was able to make him believe he could do better and his confidence also went up. Fantastic! Overall we, including my son, are very happy with Myly and her approach, communication skills and dedication. Excellent choice that I would recommend to anyone. read more

Both of my sons have done private tutoring SAT prep with AJ Tutoring and we are very pleased with their service. My junior just finished tutoring with Lan Do at the San Jose location near Oakridge, and he surpassed even his own goal for the SAT score. Lan was professional, organized, and communicative with us about the schedule and his progress. My son says she's friendly and makes the tutoring sessions fun. I never heard him complain about the sessions or the homework. She encouraged him to take several practice tests which really helped him be comfortable with the real test. His score increased 200 points from his first practice test to his 2nd real SAT over about a 4 month period. read more

My son had a difficult teacher for his Freshman year Biology class. Half-way through the year he became discouraged and started to loose interest in Biology. His grade was dropping so I reached out to AJ Tutoring in January to see if they could re-energize my son to maintain his first semester grade throughout the difficult second semester. We were given Varun who formed a sort of partnership with my son to tackle this difficult class. After a few weeks working with Varun, my son realized that he really could learn the course content and felt encouraged and capable to keep going and keep trying. We had a positive and worthwhile experience with Varun and AJ Tutoring. read more

We used AJ in Almaden area office and it was not a good fit for my son. His score were flat to down. Now we need to shell out more money for another tutor.  Update:. AJ reached out to us and offered some additional tutoring, which was very nice. We went with the new tutor anyway and my son's school went up 150 points and he did even better on the ACT. read more

My daughter began tutoring virtually with AJ tutoring from early summer of 2020 to the beginning of the school year. In that brief span of time, she was able to increase her ACT score by 6 points. Devin Shoop was very friendly and made sure to address all of my concerns. He was very patient with my daughter and worked with her until she understood the content. The improvement is clear! She was happy with him as his tutor and I would recommend him to anyone planning on taking the ACT as he is easy to work with and receptive to concerns. read more

My daughter worked with Daniel Pincus of AJ Tutoring for SAT prep. He was a fantastic coach - and gave her lots of tips and techniques and practice to help her achieve speed and accuracy. He was also really encouraging and upbeat. Her score went from 1490 to 1570, with a math score of 780 and verbal 790. We were thrilled! Very enthusiastic recommendation for Daniel from this parent. read more

Jeff Chen has been tutoring my daughter on honors physics and honors algebra 2 since September. In the short 3 months since, my daughters' grades have gone up in both subjects. She is feeling much more confident and her friends at school have also started to come to her for help with homework. Jeff has great knowledge of the subjects and, more importantly, is great at explaining the concepts. His teaching style is very interactive and he is great at breaking down complex subjects into easier-to-understand pieces. I highly recommend Jeff and we plan to continue with Jeff through AP calculus and AP physics. read more

My daughter tutors with Jeff Chen for AP Calculus AB. Jeff is a great teacher, has thorough knowledge of the subject, provides additional coaching near exam times. My daughter feels comfortable in the subject after starting with Jeff and AJ Tutoring. Highly recommend the tutor and the institute read more

My daughter has been with AJ tutoring since late Spring of 2020. We hired AJ tutoring to help supplement her math lessons during the shutdown. Over the summer, we added my son and they both have been with Myly Nguyen at the Willow Glen location ever since. Myly "makes math fun" as my kids have told me and she takes the time to also connect with them on topics that she knows they love - from sports to Harry Potter! Myly also meets with my daughter once a week to prep her for HSPT and that has really helped calm my daughter's nerves about the test and helped her to gain a little bit of confidence. This pandemic has not made distance learning easy on any of us but AJ Tutoring and Myly Nguyen have been an amazing support to our family and I am truly grateful :) read more

Even as a 4th grader, my son felt like he was "not as smart as the other kids" (his words) in his class, especially in math. So before starting 5th grade, we reached out to AJ Tutoring in San Jose/Almaden Valley, and were connected with Heather Saidak. I was worried my son was on the young side for tutoring, but even after just a couple of meetings, he felt much more confident. That, combined with the knowledge he was gaining, really helped his academic performance. Heather helped him in all of the elementary disciplines. His grades quickly went up a level (elementary scale of 1-4) across all subjects. My son is fidgety and easily distracted, but Heather is always patient and kind with him. He always looks forward to his hour of tutoring each week. We are so happy to have found Heather! read more

Over the last 5 months I've used AJ for math tutoring for my 8th grade daughter and my 11th grade son. For the high price point, I am not very impressed. The sessions for my daughter lacked structure. I could see she wasn't getting anything out of it so I stopped taking her. My son only had a few sessions but I did not see any improvement in his understanding or in his grades. I was willing to give it some time however his tutor abruptly left and it's been impossible to reschedule with a new tutor. I was told the scheduling problem was because I waited until the following day to return their call. If they had mentioned in their phone call that I needed to call back within a certain time frame then I would understand. However that was not communicated to me until after our spot was given away. It's unfortunate as I was planning on using their test prep services for the SAT but I'll take a look elsewhere. read more

We used AJ in Almaden and my son was taking the SAT Math 2 tutoring virtually during this Covid era. The instructor, Lan Do, was very patient and knowledgeable in working with my teenager (no small feat for anyone who knows what it means to work with teenagers!). She was also very flexible when we missed a session by oversight and she was able to quickly reschedule us in. We really appreciate she went above and beyond! read more

My daughter is a great student but not really a great test taker. She took the group classes two years ago to help her prepare for the SAT. From her first practice test to her final SAT test she went up 200 points on the new SAT. Well worth the money. read more

AJ tutoring helped my son Evan prepare for his SAT subject tests as well as regular SAT test. Thanks to the program and his hard work he was able to increase his SAT scores quite a bit and even got an 800 in math. They are now helping my daughter Lauriane and no matter the results she will get, I know it will take the edge off to have already taken two practice tests when she sits for the real one! AJ tutoring is a professional, reliable and customer service oriented firm. I recommend them highly. read more

Great one-on-one tutors. Both my kids used AJ Tutoring and it helped with their test scores. We tried the group classes at FLEX, and they were okay, but the on-on-one attention and focus you can get with AJ Tutoring is well worth the added cost. We used the for SAT, ACT and SAT subject tests. The tutors were professional and knowledgable. read more

AJ tutoring helped me pass stats after dropping the class before. The tutors are all very friendly and personable.

Sheena Tsang has been tutoring my son on Language Arts (middle school) for more than 3 months. At the first class, Sheena tried to understand my son's needs and came up with strategic plans to help him improve his study skills and time management. In each tutoring session, Sheena is monitoring my son's school progress to identify the areas he needs further improvement and provides additional study materials (ex. vocabulary self-checking sheet, reading guides, etc). She is a good listener and very interactive with a student. My son likes to learn from her and his school grades have gone up since we met Sheena. Sheena is a great tutor who has strong passion and deep knowledge in various subjects and school curriculum. My family is very thankful for having Sheena as my son's tutor! I highly recommend her. read more

My child had taken the SAT and had score high 1480. Before second attempt we went to AJ took private lessons. With the retake he got 1490. Paid a lot for just 10 points. The people are very nice they called me to check on this. However the program they have may not work if you are in this range. Just wanted people to know before spending a lot of money. read more

You can't go wrong with sending your child to AJ tutoring. I sent both my daughters to AJ for tutoring on the ACT. They both did great on the ACT with help from the tutors at AJ. My daughter Gillian is a senior in high school now and applying to colleges. She was tutored by Devin Shoop. He did a wonderful job preparing her for the ACT. She went up 3 points. With that point jump, she has increased her chances to attend one of her top choices of colleges. read more

AJ tutoring is terrific! My daughter worked one on one with Karen Warwick - she was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and gave spot-on advice. read more

Joe Notar at AJ tutoring is outstanding. We tried 3 other calculus tutors and the others could not look at the homework and clearly explain the concepts while checking for gaps in knowledge. Joe helped my son's grade improve and he got an A on the final. He is also very reliable and never canceled. read more

Have to say we got a wonderful tutor. Our tutor was excellent! The only thing I would say is I wish the organization of the company was better. One person reels you in and another bills you and they do not really communicate with the tutor. They say only $140 an hour but lessons are really and hour and a half so they are 210 an hour which is really pricey. Wish these kids worked on the side. They could probably keep more money for themselves and there would be less problems. They sort of change the plan once you get going and we ended up payng about 700 more than originally quoted which is about 30% which I felt was a lot. If money is no object this is the place to go because the young tutors are very good. Again, can't say enough for the tutor but I know he was not getting to keep 210 for each session. ( wish he would) So thumbs up on the tutor thumbs down on the clerical and business side. read more

My daughter has tutored with Kaitlyn Matta for the past few months for the ACT. She's been a pleasure to work with, and she's helped improve my daughter's scores. We'd highly recommend Kaitlyn read more

I sent my 16 year old son to Joe Notar at AJ tutoring completely lost with a very low "F" grade in his math class. After a few weeks of tutoring we saw a great deal of improvement. He was very stressed to take his final exam, but I'm happy to say all the tutoring paid off and he did well. In fact he pulled his grade up two full letter grades and ended up passing with a C. This was money well spent! read more

AJ Tutoring is EXCEPTIONAL. It trumps all other businesses in the tutoring business. I can say this based on the experiences of my two children who have gone there for SAT prep as well as AP tutoring. Both of my students initially tested very low, in the 1700 range. One of my kids participated in the 9 week test prep group and jumped to a whopping 2200. My other kid preferred to do a one to one tutor for 9 weeks. She also jumped to 2200. One attends UC Davis and is doing amazing, the other is at UC Berkeley.. My daughter was struggling with her AP Calc class during senior year in high school. We decided that the support we could get in tutoring was well worth what we paid for if it would make a difference. With AJ tutor support once a week in Calculus, her grade went from a C to a solid A, and she earned a 4 on her AP test. My last kid is now beginning his SAT prep with AJ tutoring. I cannot recommend this business enough. Not only for the professionalism and expertise of their tutors, but also for how high organized and supportive they are. AJ tutor has a tutor in virtually any AP subject matter. So, if your high school teacher is not very good, as many aren't, NO WORRIES. AJ tutor can carry you through the course. Every penny spent here was well worth it because it helped my kids get into the colleges of their choice. Also, it is extremely reasonable, and even much less than other test prep centers. Don't be fooled by fancy places, this is the place to go that can make all the difference. read more
