Jim Higgins was our class's instructor. If you have the opportunity to attend this course I highly encourage you to sign up. His knowledge of the material and PMI is too valuable to forego. You will not be disappointed after completing the course.
The PMP organizes its content in two ways: by knowledge area and by process group. Almost all teaching materials I've used or researched will lead you through the material for the test by knowledge area. Jim covers all of the knowledge area information, but in the sequence of the process groups. Not only is this unique, it's also logical and strategic. I believe that after completing this course, anyone taught by Jim will have a stronger understanding of how the knowledge groups are employed, when they should be employed, and how he or she as a PM can tailor the processes of these knowledge groups for his or her projects' goals. Of course, he or she would also be much better prepared to pass the exam.
While not a mandatory pre-requisite to being able to keep up during the bootcamp, I would personally recommend coming prepared to class with a basic understanding of the material. Not only will you understand the PMBOK framework more comprehensively, but you would be able to take better advantage of Jim's experience. He's very generously available before class and during lunch to answer questions, and you should not let such a valuable resource go to waste!
For context: I had an unconventional path to the PMP. I earned 35 educational PDUs through a PMI-approved podcast course, then I applied with PMI for test eligibility, and after 2 audits was confirmed to move forward. During that time I was already studying for the PMP using a study aid that was not the PMBOK. Once accepted, I scheduled the PMP bootcamp through PMA and scheduled my exam for the Friday following the bootcamp.
I do not recommend this path unless you are committed to being test-ready before the course. I would recommend following this path with one exception. Even if you are test-ready prior to the PMA course, I recommend scheduling your appointment at the Prometric Test Center for a week or two following the PMA bootcamp. If you do so you will both retain all of the tips and tricks that Jim teaches, but also reduce the pressure on yourself to memorize material after the course each night. read more
