We are preparing our son for private school. He is currently in 1st grade at public school in a mediocre school system. The good private schools (for example Harker, Stratford, Challenger in the SF bay area) generally teach one grade level ahead of public schools. So the challenge we face is teaching our son the material for the next grade level, which means teaching material from scratch rather than just helping with homework. We contacted Elite Tutoring, and they were very helpful. The first tutor they assigned us cancelled at the last minute before the first session, but they immediately gave us another tutor (Galina) who has worked with our son for 3 months now. She has been creative in the ways in which she has helped our son with reading comprehension, and she has provided all of the teaching material, which is very helpful for us. After a couple sessions, Galina reached the same conclusions as us about what our son most needed to work on. She was also very receptive to our feedback.
