Absolutely instrumental in achieving my PMP on my first attempt. I took the bootcamp in Irvine, with Jim Higgins. There is so much material to cover, but he did an excellent job smoothly getting through it all. Basically, it is 3 days to get through it, and then a mock exam on the last day which is very similar to the real one. After the course, I studied extremely hard like Jim had suggested. I also used many of the tools on the PMA website which are invaluable. I finished the course on June 23rd, and passed my PMP on July 5th. I've studied for the PMP exam, but have yet to take it. I think in part because learning the PMBOK can be like learning a foreign language. And without any context (the PMBOK is sorely lacking in this category), learning a new language is super difficult. So, I never felt comfortable paying the money for the exam I was sure to fail. Dr. Mike Ikona (Irvine, CA 12/9-12/12) presented a very professional four days of PMP exam preparation. The whole production is top-notch. The materials offered by PMA are great and Mike made a lot of PMP concepts make sense. PMA exceeded my expectations in more ways that I could possibly have imagined. I recently attended the PMP Bootcamp lead by Mike Ikona on 5/13/19-5/16/19 in Irvine, CA. The PMA content was excellent, and structured in a way to make sense of the otherwise overwhelmingly large amount of information needed to prepare for the PMP exam. In addition, the tools and documentation provided by PMA are invaluable when preparing to take the actual PMP exam. After four days of reviewing the content in this class, I was able to get an excellent gauge for where I need to focus, and learned tips and tricks on how to bridge the gap to being fully prepared. While PMA itself is truly fantastic in terms of provided content and tools, it would not have been nearly as effective without an excellent leader to take us through the four day journey. I could not have picked a better instructor than Mike Ikona. His real-world experience, personality, desire to see you succeed, and overwhelming passion for teaching is what really sealed the deal for me. He was more than happy to help us through the content where we struggled, and provided background to many of the more challenging areas in a way that was light-hearted and enjoyable. It would have been easy for PMA to pick anyone off the street who can read index cards in a monotone voice, however bringing Mike in truly rounded out the entire experience and made a cohesive and complete course which cannot be matched. . I took the PMP Prep Course with Jim Higgins at the end of August and this was instrumental in my studying efforts to pass the PMP. The lesson plan from Project Management Academy not only covers the key knowledge areas for the exam, but also helps you specifically identify any weak areas so that you may fine tune your personal study approach. The location was easy to find and parking was free. The facilities were nice and coffee, tea and water were provided inside the room. All materials provided by Project Management Academy were high quality and easy to use. Breaks were plentiful throughout the day and spaced very well to ensure that you don't feel burned out covering the vast amounts of information in such a short time period. Jim Higgins though is by far the best aspect about this course. Jim was able to easily explain complex topics by tying them to understandable, real-world examples. Learning how these principles apply in real life and understanding examples were critical to passing the exam and I often referred back to Jim's explanations while taking the test. Additionally, Jim offers countless tidbits on how the PMP application and testing process works, how to manage your certification once completed and even guidance on career development. In conclusion, the course from Project Management Academy is solid and well worth the investment. Jim Higgins however, is the factor that made the experience great. Gregg Richie taught the PMP prep class that I took in 2013. He did an excellent job of covering the material, recommending test taking strategies, and encouraging all of those in the class. His analogies to break down the curriculum were well received and understood. I did not take the test immediately after the class as some students did. Life interfered.
