Large latte with chicken, brie and cranberry sandwich pre-falling to pieces.
    Graeme W.

Project Coffee do a pretty good latte at a fair price. Ideal if you are passing by on the way to town. Unfortunately, as Jurgen said, their lunch options are rather overpriced, especially for what you are getting. Their sandwiches are tasty but do seem quite expensive. Any time I'm here I usually get a large latte and the chicken, brie and cranberry sandwich. There is a lot of flavour but the majority of the time the bread falls to pieces. It is pretty good bread though. The scones could possibly be the best part about this coffee shop. Nothing beats a fruit scone with clotted cream and jam. Service can be one of two possibilities with no middle ground. Sometimes service can be excellent as you are met with a very happy barista, and other times it seems a little slow although I have to admit it is usually more of the former than the latter. The best place to be seated is right at the back of the shop on the second of two blue couches although be warned that I have fallen asleep on one of these before.

I'm awaiting the day when I come to Project Coffee for their amazing-looking brunch. I have visited here a few times just simply for hot drinks. The chai latte was good, but not quite warm enough. The tea is good, and is loose tea, which is always a plus... but it's nothing super special. The main thing here is that the service is slow and lacking in friendliness and hospitality. I think I've yet to see a smile on the face of anyone that works here in the multiple times I've visited. They always seem like they're ready to get my order taken and out of the way so they can get back to whatever else it was they were doing... which is probably figuring out a time consuming route to your table. The staff really don't seem to enjoy their jobs, but they show up and that's admirable. The redeeming quality for me is that it's an independent coffee shop in a great location to meet up with friends. And it's good for people watching in Bruntsfield. They brunch looks really good, but so do a number of other places within a 5-10 minute walk.

Very good flat white for a decent price but their lunch options for me are over priced, all pretty much over £4.50 and they don't seem to be anything special! Nice but more style than substance!

Foodwise, I've only ever had a scone and it was very good (and they have a deal on for takeaway coffee and a scone for £2.

It probably does most its trade through selling filled rolls, sandwiches and hot drinks. The interior decor is clean and the bright colours on the wall create a bright atmosphere. At the front counter the service is efficient and they have an impressive range of ingredients for sandwich fillings as well as a variety of different breads and baguettes. I had cajun chicken and salad in a nice crispy baguette with a packet of cheese and onion crisps. It tasted great but it was also quite pricey as it came to about £3.50 for what was essentially just a sandwich and a bag of crisps. I can't dispute the quality of this place, however, and The Deli offers fresh ingredients, an extensive range of food and drink and great service to match.

There is a menu to help you decide and give inspiration, however you are quite welcome to choose your own fillings too. Prices are what you'd expect for a city - around £2-3 for a filled ciabatta - but the service is generally fast and with a smile! The Deli also serves a small selection of drinks, soup and cakes & biscuits. There is a bench in the front window and some stools for those who wish to eat in. Overall, very friendly staff and great service has kept this place going for a good few years now in an area with a high turnover of eateries.

Fantastic Deli/ Café with better coffee than most food-focused places in Edinburgh…read more (UPDATE: Coffee quality has definitely deteriorated since the early days and this is no longer a place where I expect coffee that is anything better than "drinkable". The food still holds up, though!) I started going to Rocket in 2008 when I studied at Napier, and it proved to be a very reliable regular spot for me as they were incredibly friendly, reasonably priced and indulged my freestyle sandwich filling whims without fuss. They also do a remarkably good coffee for a Deli, even if it's not as good as what you would get at places that have coffee as their primary focus. So the quality of the coffee is a bit up and down but always serviceable, but it's the food that makes it good! You can pick from their extensive menu of lunch options, including a lot of British classic and South-American ones. Their sandwiches, though! Oh, the sandwiches! See, the thing is that they have a huge array of great toppings, and a nicely put together list of suggested combinations of them... But they'll let you "freestyle" it if it pleases you. And BOY does it please me! They tend to have to really struggle to close their baguettes up by the time I finish. All wonderful, fresh toppings that create an absolute cornucopia of lively taste sensations. I do wish they had clotted cream for their scones, though, and I would love for them to have some bread that was a bit more substantial, gave a bit more resistance to the bite. It's very fluffy, very light, and I tend to prefer the heavier, bitier breads. If they had the option of something tougher and made with more rye/ spelt/ etc, I'd be a super happy camper. Still, a very strong contender and one of my favourite lunch places in Edinburgh. I have been known to take a detour just to go here. :)

They have great sandwiches and delectable treats (my favourite being the chocolate/graham cracker/fudge fridge tray bake - not sure what the actual name is?!) I was here about three weeks ago with my boyfriend for lunch. I was feeling like something texmex so I chose the chicken burrito while my boyfriend ordered the chicken and chorizo club sandwich. I was very satisfied with my burrito and my boyfriend was satisfied with his meal. See the picture that I added! The staff are very friendly although sometimes the service can be a little slow. They can be quite busy especially mid-morning. I believe you can reserve a table if you call in advance. If you are in the area and require a nice, healthy, lunch definitely check this place out.

I sometimes like to ask for a recommendation when I can't decide and Iona's tip was spot on. The cocktail menu is extensive; there's something for all tastes. This was delicious. - Not too spicy, not too sweet. Followed up by the cherry nuts shot with black cherry rum and amaretto. This cherry-lover approves and this served as a dessert to round the night off to a better end. Was it okay that they had run out of shot glasses and opted for a short cocktail glass and also topped it with a tonne of cream? Umm, YES. No disappointment here. Service was attentive despite the bar overflowing on a Friday night. This was just what we were after and is a wonderful spot for a drink. You'd be missing out if you didn't have a cocktail. If you're not drinking, there's an interesting selection of mocktails too. Cheers, Montpeliers! - You know just how it's done.
