We did the half day program for a week in South Pasadena and our child quite enjoyed it! The instructor was welcoming and patient and the class did a lot of projects with maximum inout and creativity from the children. One kid -not mine thankfully!- shocked himself by not following directions as reported by my child, but I guess they will remember to wait for instructions next time. I am not sure about a full day program because the community room is very small and no park or playground time is built in. But, for a half day it was a good experience. read more

My daughter wanted a science themed birthday party so we made a booking and we're generally excited about it. She loves science, and as a teacher and a parent, it's always great to include learning in everything. But as a parent I was incredibly disappointed. We had booked for 1:30 and confirmed in the days prior and everything appeared to be in order, until I was left a message at 1:22 that our professor would be delayed over an hour with very little explanation. Eight minutes was not nearly enough time to prepare for such a shift in plans especially when there are 20ish first graders running around the house and indoors is your only option on account of rain. But when it's your child's birthday, you've got to make it special and get it together. So I put my teacher hat on and gathered some materials I had and we filled the time with our own homemade STEM challenges building paper airplanes and spaghetti structures until our professor finally arrived 77 minutes after they were supposed to be there. Awesome. Now we can relax a little and enjoy, but that wasn't really the case either unfortunately. When our professor arrived, there were no introductions and I did not even get their name. They set up and got started. The kids were engaged, but the professor appeared to be struggling to maintain attention, keep things moving, and generally manage the 20 or so kiddos. My child was given their shirt, but that was also a little bit of a disappointment because it had a tie on it and even my seven year old thought that was weird because "girls can be scientists too Mommy! I don't wear a tie!" And that was pretty much the only special attention the bit bday child was given during the time the professor was here. We had to remind them that maybe the birthday girl could pick their materials first to get the color they wanted. There was a lot of chaos in distributing materials and a LOT of dead time in getting them going and ensuring they were completing things appropriately. We had 2 additional grown up guests jump in to help ensure kiddos filled their mold all the way up, then provided assistance opening them up without a lot of direction from the professor. At the conclusion of our delayed scheduled time, the professor packed up and left without saying much and left a large puddle of water and bouncy ball goo on the floor. Thankfully, however, the kids had fun and didn't really pick up on the rest of the chaos or issues with the delay, but from my standpoint, this service was incredibly disappointing and it would have been much more worth it to have done it all myself or with a couple other grown ups. We were genuinely excited about using this company, and didn't entirely know what to except but they were helpful in our planning and booking, and the information they provided was engaging and gave us something very fun to look forward to. But in the end it was pretty disappointing. When I called the company to find out more information about how this happened, there was a connection to an emergency line for party bookings. I left a message there, but never received a phone call or any level of communication. I'm certain there are better companies out there for things like this or just consider doing it yourself. We hired Professor Egghead for my twin girls' 9th bday party. The theme was slime, and we asked them to offer two different slimes: giggly and fluffy/snow slime. On the day of the party, Professor Ashley showed up 20 minutes early, set up, and was ready to go on time! Professor Brittany (Ashley's assistant) showed up shortly after Ashley, and also helped set up. They started the party with a 20-30 min demonstration using dry ice, water, food coloring, and dish soap, and it was a huge hit with the girls! Eggheads is currently providing after school enrichment at my son's school (Pasadena Rosebud Academy). The program is 6 weeks, but they just added a second session for another 6 weeks. My son absolutely LOVES going to this class. He is always eager to share with me what he has learned every Tuesday. He also shows his 4 year old brother what he's learned (if able-depends on the type of experiment/activity they did for the day). I love that it's convenient for parents because it takes place right after school and it's less than $100. You can't beat that! We had confirmed via email a few weeks in advance for a specific date and theme, and were in communication throughout. I had questions and he replied back to me right away, everything was going so well, we were so excited, and when I sent the booking forms and to coordinate paying the deposit, Nick said he wasn't even sure if he had a professor who could come to the party. If he had given me a heads up to send in the booking forms/deposit to secure the date, I would have ASAP, but I was under the impression everything was all set.
