Professional Physical Therapy is great. I found them initially because they advertised that they could deal specifically with post surgical rehabilitation, which is what I needed. I'm Since then, my partner and I have used them for a wide variety of aches and pains, and I have recently returned for another round of pre- and post-surgical (p)rehabilitation. These guys know what they are doing, and they do it in a friendly and supportive and efficient manner. As well they have great available infrastructure (eg, they are able to send home exercise routines by way of an electronic platform). The office is small, but has everything one would need, and being roughly adjacent to South station, the High Street location is very easily accessed by way of the T (another big plus if one is considering post-surgery mobility). So, in a word, they are the best! Give them a try! read more

But with Emily and Jesse's help, now a few weeks later I'm balancing on that leg, walking without a brace, and back to running. In the summer of 2020, I suffered a pretty debilitating back injury(the kind of thing you don't recover from quickly) and due to some medical negligence and my own laziness, it wasn't until this year(2022) that I started looking into physical therapy. Luckily I was able to find Professional PT through my company. I have been going in biweekly for about 2 months now, and my back pain(while still persistent) is significantly reduced. Through the exercises both guided in the office, and recommended for usage at home, I have seen reduced pain and increased performance across my back, and my hips and legs(which I didn't even know were part of the problem). In addition, but also important, I have worked with three of the therapists and all three were receptive, interactive and just all together friendly. Highly recommend Professional PT. read more

I've been going off again and on again to Pro X for almost a year now. I was originally going to the Boylston St location but switched to the High St location for convenience. Therapists at this location are incredibly knowledgeable. The staff here consists of mostly male therapists, except for my therapist Lisa (And Kelsey? Who might only be there part time not sure). I actually prefer a more male dominant clinic, as I find that the atmosphere can be more relaxed while still keeping a professional tone. I work as a professional ballroom dancer and came in for two injuries (knee and shoulder). Lisa has given me a program geared very specifically to my athletic ability. The skill sets and quality of physical therapists can range greatly. I've been to clinics where I've felt that I was not being challenged enough given the physical demands of my sport. Lisa has designed a program to optimize muscle rehabilitation with a concentration on exercises geared specifically to increase blood flow and nutrients to my knee and shoulder. Aside from being a great therapist, I find that Lisa is able to give a genuine warmth and sense of concern for her patients. While I've been to a number of very qualified male therapists, I find that they can sometimes lose their sense of human connection to the patient and I end up feeling like a cow in a factory line. In Lisa I see a great ability to empathize with patients, often putting their needs before her own. No matter how busy she is, or how early or late the day she always greets me with a genuine smile and a welcoming tone. Although I find all the exercise technicians to be competent, I have found Kyle to be the most knowledgeable and personable. He, like Lisa has a genuine care and interests in the well being of patients and is always very confident in his delivery of information on exercises. Eric acts as a mentor at the clinic, and has really been able to hone in on microscopic details in my rehabilitation that has helped to propel my recovery process. Jess, the clinic manger runs the best clinic I have ever been to. The office, while small is neatly kept, towels are always new, rug always clean, and table always sanitized. He has an incredibly staff that demonstrates customer services at its finest. read more

I cannot say enough great things about ProEx! I had no idea what physical therapy was before going here - I found ProEx through my insurance and it just so happened to be practically next door to my office! \ Everyone at the office is extremely friendly and nice, which adds a lot to the experience - I would definitely recommend this PT office to anyone and have myself had a great experience. So much so that now that my program is over, Im sad I wont be seeing everyone 2x a week anymore. I got used to coming in and chatting about my week -and what everyone has been up to over the weekends. Even the other patients working along side you join in to conversations - a real 'family' kind of feeling, like we're all in this together. The facility is nice and clean and their flexibility in scheduling is amazing. They start as early as 7AM and go till 7PM so I had NO problem going after work or during lunch. Also, not only are they flexible on time but they can usually accommodate whatever time works for you. They also take the burden of dealing with insurance companies off your shoulders which can be a pain if you're claim is having issues. [Thanks to the wonderful Whitney at the front desk] Towards the end of my PT program, I developed carpel tunnel and even though I was going there for my legs, Matt and Jess examined my wrist, gave me a few stretches to do throughout the day and recommended a plan to best serve the problem. Listen, going to PT is not something that most people look forward to. But Jess and his team are absolutely excellent. This place is not spacious, but it has enough space and all of the equipment you need. ProEx has a really fantastic philosophy about listening to your body and pushing you...in a good way. All of the workers are pleasant and knowledgeable. I am so grateful to have recovered here, and I would recommend this place to anyone who works in the Financial District or Seaport. They are convenient to South Station. Also, they are spot-on with billing and all those sorts of procedures...no paperwork hassles at all. Great service. read more

Visiting PT Maxine is awesome, but the whole staff is friendly. The office is conveniently located a block away from South Station and they have accommodating hours. The space itself is small, with multiple PTs and clients on the floor all at once. I owe this whole office my deepest gratitude after helping me regain the ability to walk again after a patellar dislocation. Come there prepared to take what you need out of physical therapy. They are experts and will push you as needed ( constantly reminding you that pain does not equal progress), but the philosophy is about you doing what you need to do in order to be where you need to be with your health. This is not one of those offices where you passively attach to electrodes and ice; you're going to work! read more

I wish I could give more than 5 stars for this place and its employees!!!! Last year I stupidly decided to run 3 marathons within a short amount of time; I am by no means a great runner and I have suffered from knee pain for at least 10 years. I've seen doctors, running coaches, trainers, and no advice seemed to help my knees. During my second marathon last year, I became so debilitated with pain at mile 10 (in case you didn't know... there's 16.2 more to go after that!) and had to walk the remainder of the race, fighting tears the entire time and barely being able to bend my knees. Obviously it was time to do whatever it took to get my knees taken care of so I enlisted the help of a friend and found a good ortho doc. He highly suggested Pro-Ex and said "anyone there can help you, they WILL fix your problem". He was so confident that it made me confident again... After 10 years of suffering could these people really help me?! I went to Pro-Ex and was taken care of by Jess and Jess. The consistancy and gentleness (except when massaging out my IT band - OW! Totally helps though... fight through the pain and you will have no more pain!) they both showed me was amazing. I went for about a month and a half, twice a week up to my third marathon of the year. My training was going terribly but for once it was not because of my knees (I was just burnt out from running at this point...). Come race day, I ran 26.2 pain free miles for the FIRST TIME in my LIFE. I wanted to cry from happiness instead of pain for once. I shaved an hour off my previous two marathons of the year and got a PR, even with the crappy job I did training. This was a direct and pure result of the work that Jess and Jess did with me. Jess B gave me exercises to do at home and so far, they've gotten me up to 18.5 miles of pain-free running for my next marathon. A place who arms you with the tools you need to succeed even after you leave (meaning they get no more revenue from you) is an incredible, caring establishment who genuinely take pride in what they do and are SO intelligent when it comes to identifying the issue and coming up with the solution. Oh yeah, it was the easiest hour of my life when I was with them and the entire time I was thinking this doesn't feel like it's doing anything... boy did they prove me wrong! Up until recently, this was the old Boston University Physical Therapy Center. Now it is Proex Physical Therapy. It's a cute, small, clean new-ish place up on the 3rd floor of 10 High Street. If you are going here for physical therapy, there are only 2 Physical Therapists on-hand, and one of them is on vacation so, well, your options are limited. Jess is one of the physical therapists. He, yes, he - is a young-ish energetic smart fella who is eager and willing to help you get back on your feet. Time will tell if his advice and assistance will bear any fruit. The place is small. Not a whole lot of machines and not much room to be able to stretch and exercise. But, due to the small staff, not many people will be there at the same time anyway! Location is awesome. My insurance has me paying $20 for each visit, which blows. Time will tell if they deserve another star!!! read more

I got into a car accident back in July, I looked at all the reviews and thought I would give here a try. I was in treatment for over 2 months and had the best experience. I was treated the absolute best, everyone in this building knows exactly what they are talking about and makes sure you are in good hands. They explain every exercise to you thoroughly, I really appreciated never being left in the dark on anything that was going on with my symptoms. I HIGHLY recommend Ed, and Bobby they where where friendly and thorough. Also thank you to Christina, she really went the extra mile to help me with my exercises. It was about five months ago when I discovered that I wasn't invincible anymore. Yes, at one time this body was indestructible, having gone through multiple breaks, fractures, sprains, tears, pulled muscles, contusions, you name it.... Years upon years of abuse and torture had culminated into a tremendously rude awakening: I had developed Cluster Headaches. For anyone who knows what Migraines are, Cluster Headaches are sometimes referred to as Migraine's older, nastier big brother, and after seeking a doctor's advice, had me rejecting conventional treatment altogether. I was not convinced in the slightest that my situation would leave me dependent on medication for the rest of my life, and so I sought an alternative approach to what seemed to be like an isolated ailment. During my consultation, Matt was very careful to highlight not only what I was feeling physically, but went through my injury history to get a better understanding of what could possibly be the root cause of my headaches. Admittedly, I was reluctant, maybe even skeptical, about how headaches could have resulted from another injury. Matt proved beyond a reasonable doubt, even to me, someone who is not suggestible in the least, that I may have some back and neck issues that were causing my pain. After taking some basic info we went through some light exercises in attempt to trigger minor irritation in the suspected problem areas. Sure enough, I began to feel tenderness in my cervical and thoracic spine. Matt carefully explained to me how the spine was being effected, even going as far as to show me the areas of concern on a skeleton model. He illustrated that compression was causing irritation in my discs and that through some routine exercises we could restore strength to and repair some, if not all, of the damage to my spine. After weeks of light exercise, massage, and stretching I am now pain free! All of my headaches were alleviated with the first few sessions and corrective maintenance had restored my spine to pre-injury status within a month or so. I could not be more grateful to Matt and all of his staff for their professionalism, expertise, and acute awareness to my medical needs. They took the time to listen to me, and help suggest ways that I could incorporate some new exercises into my regular gym routine. It speaks volumes that in a time where our medical care practitioners are quick to dope us up on drugs, and completely ignore even our basic concerns, that there is a place like Pro-Ex that will work with you for tangible treatment and simply won't subscribe to having their patients held hostage to medication. If you suffer from even the slightest pain, don't be so quick to rush for a pill. Just meet with this team of amazing professionals and determine if their methods could be your best bet at real recovery. You will not be disappointed! read more

This place is awesome! The staff is outstanding, especially in that they are extremely friendly, attentive, informative and always have the patient in mind, first and foremost. In addition, the staff is extremely knowledgable and appear up to date on the most current theories and teachings in the industry. I like this place so much, you would think I have family here....but rest assured I don't have any family within 150 miles of here. I feel confident recommending every single person working in this office right now, and as a CPA who takes pride in his work and integrity, that statement doesn't come lightly. I rarely write reviews, however, i thought in this case i should. I went to Pro Ex upon the referral of my doctor due to its proximity to my work. I told my doctor my symptoms (constant knee pain after having run a half marathon, and experiencing this pain a full 6 weeks after, preventing me from running). She suggested i go here for physical therapy. I'm not sure whether this is poor consultation on behalf of my primary care physician or poor judgement on my part, however, do not ever go to Physical therapy if you have not been properly diagnosed. Looking back, i should have known this, however, i figured my injury would've been common enough that the PT would know what was wrong. This was not the case. And she decided to treat me anyways. I insisted i thought it was an overuse injury involving my IT band. She did her consultation and at the end determined she thought it was my sciatic nerve. I absolutely knew it wasn't however i kept my next appointment since i didn't cancel it in time. she had me doing squats, overhead arm exercises, exercises on all fours to strengthen my back... the list goes on. i was fairly certain my injury was not related to my sciatic nerve and finally secured, weeks later, an appointment with a doctor at MGH within sports medicine. In about 90 seconds he diagnosed my injury as IT Band Tendinitis and Patellar Tendinitis (runners knee/jumpers knee). I should NOT be doing squats or lunges and should NOT be running (which she had me do to warm up). I could have prevented some of this, but i think we've all been in a situation where you think the experienced person knows better. in this case, i should've stuck to my gut. but i do think its very irresponsible of them to treat anyone when the person hasn't been diagnosed first. These people are not doctors. they should be using their knowledge to treat the areas that for certain, require treatment. I think it is their responsibility to adhere to this and at a minimum, not induce further injury. I will never go here for PT now that i actually know what is wrong with my leg. read more

I have been to a lot of PT places and Proex is by far the best. Very well organized and efficient sessions. The PTs spend lots of time getting to know the patients and there is lots of one-on-one work. Having been to Kennedy Brothers, also in the Financial District, I can't imagine ever going anywhere else. read more

Stephanie was excellent! She knew more about my injury and what caused it than I did. Her exercises for me to do at home worked like a charm and helped me get back to running faster than I ever imagined. I have calf and knee issues, and now am pain free. I had a bad experience at ProEx Physical Therapy High Street Boston MA. One year ago I attended ProEx and I ended up worse than I was when I began therapy. I went for physical therapy on my shoulder and I left with a torn meniscus. I am still in pain today but I refuse to attend physical therapy due the experience I had at this facility. The staff is very friendly but they lack the experience necessary to get the job done right. I am a disgruntled customer and felt that I should make people aware of the experience I had at this location. read more

I just went to see Matt at ProEx's Financial District location and he was so accommodating. I have been going to ProEx for years (typically their Woburn location) and they have always been so good when it comes to fitting me into their day. I hadn't spoken with Matt in over 2 years, but once I got in touch with him, he just asked me for my schedule and got me into their office within the week. These guys are professional in how they go about their business and they make you feel so comfortable as you go through your workout/treatment/evaluation. This was my first and only experience with physical therapy - and I was lucky to find such a supportive, knowledgable and resourceful group. Don't let her diminutive stature fool you, she can be a driven motavator and her massages pack a punch (in a good way of course). I always thought that physical therapy was either for jocks or for grandmas, until Proex helped me figure out that actually physical therapy is for ME! I put off seeing a PT because even though I workout 5 days a week, I'm a zaftig 46 year old **read not a jock, but not quite a grandma either** and I just didn't realize that physical therapy could be for me. I could not be happier that I went to see Matt and his crew over at Proex!! They put me right at ease, and on the road to recovery!! The whole staff is so nice, professional, nonjudgmental, supportive, friendly, accommodating. They are all really are fantastic!! And funny!! I can't believe what a good time I had rehabbing my knee. He took me from 2 weeks post shoulder surgery to full-time sports and exercise, and I learned a lot of great rehab exercises to continue after my time after Proex. This place deserves more than 5 stars! I had ACL surgery in June 2013 and went to ProEx for a few months after surgery. My insurance ran out of visits, so they developed a home/gym exercise program for me, which has worked out great! I mainly saw Matt, however, I also received care from Steph and Jess. All of the Physical Therapists are amazing and extremely knowledgeable! As a former athlete it was important for me to get back on my feet as soon as possible and the protocol developed by ProEx was the only thing that saved me after surgery. I struggled with scar tissue after surgery and at one point during my recovery, my doctor recommended that I have another surgery to remove the scar tissue in my knee. The Physical Therapists at ProEx were all confident that I did not need another surgery and listening to their advice proved to be the right decision! The next time I saw my doctor (4 weeks later) he told me I no longer needed surgery and the scar tissue had broken up. Thanks to the exercises ProEx had me doing, I was able to not only avoid another knee surgery, but I am able to have a functioning knee again (still only 4.5 months out of ACL surgery, so still have a lot of work to do towards my recovery). I did physical therapy 2-3 times a week at the location downtown (High Street) and they managed to make each session enjoyable! All of the staff is friendly and they genuinely care about you as a person in addition to your injury. I would recommend this place to ANYONE! They were always accommodating with my work schedule and flexible with when I could come in for a session. Also, they recently opened a location in Back Bay, which I have heard is amazing. I had a minor, but stubborn wrist injury that required some PT, and I could pretty much go anywhere for the treatment. I work in downtown Boston, so I wanted something close and convenient - and again, there were many choices. I chose ProEx because they had good reviews, and a coworker of mine used them to rehab from a back injury. Once I actually began the treatment, I learned WHY they had such a great reputation. Their office is clean, and inviting, and their staff is both friendly and knowledgeable. Matt McManus did a screening and overall evaluation for me, asking lots of good questions to give him an understanding of the injury and how it was affecting me. Then he gave me a plan of action, so I would know what to expect, and we began treatment. Within 2 weeks the injury was completely healed, and it is now a distant memory, that I easily forget all about. My first experience left me with such a good impression, that when I suffered a foot injury playing soccer, I didn't think twice about where to go. There was one catch this time - My office was moving to Woburn, so I couldn't do my whole treatment at one facility. Luckily, Proex has one of their offices there. I still wasn't sure what to expect, though. I knew I was comfortable with Matt, and the others in the Boston office, but had no idea how switching locations was going to work. During my first appointment with David Melchiorri, I learned that he had spoken with the Boston team, discussed my treatment program, and had already been updated and prepared to move forward with the same program we started. That was huge, in my book, because I didn't have to start from scratch even though I was at a new office. David was awesome. He was patient, informative, and easy to work with. After meeting him, and the rest of the Woburn staff, it was clear that these people hire like-minded employees, and obviously have a company-wide commitment to the consumer experience. Believe me when I say I have my fingers crossed that I won't NEED anymore PT, but if I do, I know where I'll be going. read more

I have been going to ProEx for almost 2 months now and I couldn't be more pleased with the service and results! 23 years old and training for The Boston Marathon felt great until my long runs surpassed 13 miles. As soon as I felt discomfort in my left hip flexor I called over to the Financial District ProEx who booked me for a consultation that week. I now pop over to their office weekly for one hour sessions with Matt and the rest of the fabulous team. They are very flexible and understanding; you can pop in before work or on lunch - they'll make time for you because they care. If it wasn't for ProEx I wouldn't be able to complete my marathon training for these next 2 months! read more

Just leaving an appointment after being there for two weeks and my hand feels amazing, he absolutely knows what he's doing and has done a great job in helping to rehabilitate my hand in the short time I have worked with him. This place has it together too, got laid off so I am switching to the Woburn office and while on the phone w Woburn they printed a schedule for me IN BOSTON which the receptionist grabbed from the printer n handed to me! So they are certainly networked properly and the 2 therapists I worked with (Jess, a guy and a cute/younger female whom I forget her name who was amazing too!) Looking forward to an even speedier recovery thanks to these guys and would highly recommend to anyone needing PT!!!! I came in with a bad knee that had just been scoped and a herniated disk. A back doctor said I needed surgery. I got a second opinion and did my PT here (near my office). It was convenient and the staff was flexible, acccomodating my schedule. Before coming in, I was in considerable pain and could not jog more 1/4 mile. As a result of some weeks of intense work with ProEx, I am now painfree and running 2-3 miles daily without problem. I could not feel better thanks to them. read more

I've been really pleased with this place. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and the small size and scheduled appointments allow for a very personal touch. My sessions last about 1 hour which is perfect as my time is limited during the week. If you're looking for a large gym-like environment with tons of equipment this is not the place. However, if you want one on one help with an ailment, then I think you'd be happy here. read more

I found Proex Physical Therapy to be extraordinary! I have been to other physical therapy places before when I tore my ACL years ago, but they were not anything like Proex. I moved to Boston recently for school and was in a really bad car accident this fall. I needed a place to go that was convenient for city comuting and Proex was indeed that but happened to be much more! The staff is so friendly and caring. They are really good at fitting you in last minute or working around your day-to-day schedule. The facility is always spot less and has a warm "home-like" feeling to it. I couldn't have asked for a better place or more talented staff to recover with. read more

As much as i hate to give bad reviews, it is necessary. Being an avid runner and outdoors person, I have had my fair share of injuries. I decided to try a new place since it was close to my work...big mistake.I found Matt to be a little pompous and arrogant, even though he didn't seem to do very much. I have had PT before and usually spend more time with the therapist than here. I found my self doing the same little exercises day in and day out and any time I asked a question about how this could help, Matt seemed annoyed as if I was questioning his authority. it's really too bad, I wanted this to work but its just not. I had chedked thier webiste prior to making an appointment and was very impressed. But now, I don't understand it. "treating you as a person first"...unless you ask a question I guess. it's really unfortunate, I think there needs to be some customer service training or ego trimming for Matt. read more
