First off, John was extremely friendly and he was so accommodating. I can appreciate someone who loves their craft. Second, my child literally had her car finished and already taken to the emissions testing site for us. Passed with flying colors and completed within 24 hours! I didn't think he would have it that quick! Moms car was completed the next day with and did well on the emissions testing too, that they took upon themselves to take in also. This is a sign of a great mechanic! For both cars we paid way less then expected and they run perfectly. I don't usually endorse mechanics, but for sure I will today! My father has been coming to Monroy's for years and has worked with the owner/mechanic Jose getting…read morenew brakes, transmission repairs and oil changes. Monroy's is your local shop, located in a blue collar Chicago neighborhood. You won't find fast talking salesy mechanics who are trying to sell you services you don't need. To have my front and rear brake pads replaced, Jose quoted $130 total for labor ($65 for the front and $65 for the rear). Jose said the new rotors that I purchased and had installed with the first mechanic were fine and recommended I keep those on the car. I arrived to the shop 30 minutes before 9am on a weekday to ensure I was the first car serviced. The work took about an hour and a half as Jose and his team got to work right away. For parts, I purchased the pads at the next door A1 Truck and Auto Supply which has been in business for over 60 years. It was nice to be able to pay for the parts myself and not be charged an additional margin which is common from dealers and local mechanic shops. If you're able to trek to Monroy's and are okay with a shop that isn't flashy or has a formal waiting area, visit Monroy's and ask for the owner Jose.

My first time here - car wouldn't start. This was happening a lot, and I figured I'd be needing the battery replaced. I called places around the neighborhood to get estimates, and when I called here and explained what was going on, Bob's response was that he might have time to 'swing over and see if he could jump it' in order to save me a towing fee. Thankfully, after this call, if finally started and I was able to drive it over. When he figured out what was going on and gave me a repair estimate (battery was fine, starter needed to be repplaced) I called the dealership just out of curiousity - the price difference was about $450. Secondtime - car was making a loud vibrating sound. When I took it in, I also mentioned that it had recently turned over (100,000!) and asked Bob to make recommendations about routine maintence. Basically, I gave him freedom to run me up a high estimate of things I might not even need. He called me back and mentioned a few things, but did not at all take advantage. This would absolutely NOT be the case if I were to take it into the dealership. With little knowledge (ok, none) about cars, it's hard for me to argue with whatever a mechanic tells me. When I used to go to the dealership for anything, I'd have so much anxiety about what it would cost and end up not understanding exactly what the problem is. Here, I feel like I've understood explanations and felt confident in their work. And best of all, there's trust that I'm paying a fair price instead of being up against a wall.

Two great guys and a staff who know their stuff and work with you to ensure that things will get fixed. It's the type of place that has a 'small town' feel where they won't nickle-and-dime you to hell, right under Midway Airport. I kind of wish someone had told me about this place sooner. One of the mechanics actually helped (ok entirely did) replace a blown-out headlight bulb. Thank you! Next time something's not-quite-right, I'll definitely be back.
