I went to Auto Boutique Chicago for a complimentary multipoint inspection and hand wash I discovered via an eye-catching flyer. While not in the market for a luxury European automobile myself, the casual yet classy environment tempted me into at least browsing.  Auto Boutique Chicago has a very nice selection of luxury and high performance European cars - of note was a super sharp 2002 Porsche 911 sitting in the driveway of the service department and a number of well seasoned AUDIs, in like-new condition. Seriously makes me wish I had the type of bankroll to justify driving one of these beauties! The owner, Zak, was very knowledgeable and approachable, I learned a little bit about my car without feeling like I was being "sold." I really appreciate a salesman who doesn't pressure a sale. The service coordinator, Adam checked me in efficiently, and within minutes of pulling up, my car was on one of the three lifts in their clean, spacious and well-lit service area. While I wouldn't know what my rack and pinion looked like if you dropped it on my foot, I can tell by Zak's RV sized toolbox that these guys are not your average greasy Joe mechanics. The wait wasn't terribly long, but it wasn't what I would consider a "quickie" either, which I find comforting, because I know they really took their time to inspect EVERYTHING. Meanwhile, I relaxed in a comfortable leather swivel chair and watched a little cable TV on the big screen in the waiting room, NICE! Lucky for me, my car was in decent shape, though Zak did point out a few minor leaks that don't require immediate attention - again, I appreciate a mechanic who will give it to me straight and not try fool me into spending a ton of money unnecessarily. This quality alone would bring me back if and when I do need service on my car. And the cherry on top... Not only did I get a complimentary hand wash, but they even vacuumed the inside of my car; completely unexpected! I write this stellar review because my experience with Zach of Auto Boutique was other worldly. I am a baby boomer so not so into online life. However, to call Auto Boutique a used car dealer shop would be disingenuous. I was recommended to him by a trusted VW mechanic who I have known for over 30 years and when my beloved VW ESOS went kaput thru no fault of mine and what was once Loeber, then Fletcher Jones and now VW AH of America, screwed me over after selling me a $3,500 gold warranty, made sure it wasn't honored, my VW mechanic recommended Zach. Our phone relationship started several months ago and ended up with the purchase of an OUT OF BOUNDS AWESOME ride for me. First, Zach, who is Auto Boutique, has a voice that could bed most (he's blushing now if reading). Seriously, though, this guy who didn't know me from Adam, got to know me via phone, was always accommodating, never pushy, treated me like I was his relative. He suggested alternatives and listened when I wasn't interested. He even had my dead VW towed without charge from the AHs at VW of Chicago located at 1111 N. Clark - DO NOT PATRONIZE. I was all over the place wanting what I couldn't get anymore; Zach tho, was patient even spending unsolicited time on the phone with me explaining my folly and persuaded me that there was something better. That took several more months but, lets say, good things come to those that wait. If the rating scale is 5, I give Auto Boutique a 10 for integrity, customer service - but not like the customer service we are all accustomed to - I mean the old school (ask your parents and grandparents) - time, patience, and just pure integrity - I don't know how to say it any better than that. Enough . . But I will conclude to say, if you desire a pre-owned foreign car, any car, call Zach. P.S. many family and friends asked me over the course of these many months how I know "this guy". We came from Michigan to purchase a car because we had good luck with relatively honest, dealerships that have Integrity and act professionally, what a surprise we got after they had our money. Our 19-year-old son purchased a Toyota using all his money. He noticed some 'road noise' only the way home but thought it was the tires. My wife drove the car a few weeks later and knew there was a problem (probably only 200 miles since bought). I am hard of hearing and our son does not have enough experience to realize there way an issue. Turns out we had to have the trany replaced, $3,400. Called up and talked to the salesmen and owner, both were rude, interrupted and screamed at us. I gave them the option of refunding any amount, even $500, They blamed, lied and just said DONE DEAL, DONE DEAL, ITS OVER. When we were looking they told us they stand behind their cars-NOT. Major scammer, rip off dealer with zero integrity, professionalism, respect, or honest bone in their bodies. Got a car there in January, assured me of a 17 points inspection- Thank God I had a 14 day warrantee and had to bring it 3 times during the 14 days. Should have known then but... Maybe it's just bad timing that the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree two weeks after I got the car. I was told if anything went wrong in the first 7 days they'd fix it. When I brought the car back the day after I bought it because the passenger side mirror wasn't working I was told it was my problem. Granted I contacted the owner and he said he'd take care of it. I was so turned off I never came back. I was also told they'd put gas in the car before I drove it away but when I left it was on empty. I really only have myself to blame. I didn't realize you can pay a professional to come assess a car before you buy it. I've taken the car to a mechanic and was told there was stuff wrong with the car that they had to have known about but didn't disclose. This is not an honest, transparent, accountable business. If you aren't an experienced car buyer like me go to the car rental companies. They sell retired rental cars at competitive prices and even offer return policies along with quality guarantees. I PAID CASH FOR A 2001 VW EUROVAN. zach ( owner ) told me he replaced the trans in 2015 that was 50% of the reason why i purchased it. 3 mos. later I bring the car back for TRANS. problem. They charge me $130 for a diagnostic that I think was never done?! I ask to see the report of error codes adam the shop mang. couldnt produce one. Their reply is we can charge you $120 an hour to take apart trans and TRY to find the probem. TRY!!! I take it to a different mechanic within 2 hrs. diagnostic report in hand error codes paid $90 diagnostic fee Update: Zach The owner apologized for the mixup returned my money for the diagnostic fee Update: # 2 when I bought this 2001 VW eurovan it only came with 1 key no problem I'll by another key from Adam paid $70 and some change. Okay can you guys cut and program it for me. No help whatsoever I brought the van in for service to a VW dealership and asked them about the key if they can cut it. Sorry Sir this key does not have a chip in it. I called them and told him that the key didn't work. Then he asked me to take down my yelp review. Screw You buddy that's the whole point of a review to warn others of crappy service I also had to pay $2300 for a rebuilt transmission another $70 for the RIGHT!! Key the dealer will program it for another $150 I have no problem with that it's that when I pay for something it should be correct They have the same Eurovan parked in front of their shop coincidence? Update: I bought a transmission shocks struts, ball joints, heater coil, coolant reservoir, power steering pump, starter, and now my mechanic finds this birds nest of electrical work that zach the hack did and told me that he did work on the car. Very disappointed. Update: 10/17/18 Zak finally replied 1 year and 4 months later. I purchased the vehicle for my business not for hauling material. I purchased the vehicle with 156501 mi. it currently has 157326 mi a way to go to 165000 but you should have checked the paperwork. "Please DO NOT TRUST THIS DEALER." Here's my experience with the dealer: - They claim to sell "Certified Preowned" car, as they advertise via internet. What I actually received was engine oil leaking car from multiple components that was clearly not inspected before sale. - The owner (and general manager), Zak Madigan, was irresponsible throughout the process. I asked separate car dealer for inspection after the purchase, where multiple sources of leaks were identified. Zak admits it, fixes 1 of the leak and claims it was done. Later, recognizing the sign of leak blinking, once again went back claiming it's not even done. This time Zak doesn't even show up to my appointment, and no further means of communication to discuss with this Zak guy remains. Adam, a recipient, takes over and tells me that I can select to fix it AT MY EXPENSE. - 2 month has passed: I am still under temporary license plate. - There are supposed to be 2 keys for my car. A sales rep passes 1 key to me, and tells me the other key will be provided to me along with temporary license plate replacement. Clearly not having it yet. From the above lists of experience, my take was that this business KNOWINGLY supplies and sells deficient cars, hoping nothing will be claimed. In certain cases where buyer recognizes deficiency, expect that the dealer makes its best effort minimizing any repairs at the cost of the business, while maximizing profits via costly repairs. At this point, they will no longer be hesitant to ignoring you/lying to you. Think about it. If you see both extreme reviews piled up at a single business, there are usually reasons behind. Where it really started getting ugly is when I talked to Zak about the PPI results over the phone. While I had already decided for myself that the car wasn't for me based on the report, I figured I would be nice and give Zak a brief run down of what they found. That is when he completely lost his temper and got defensive/aggressive with me....raised his voice, cussed out the shop that did the PPI, discredited everything in the report....called them clowns...came up with phony excuses and lousy contradictions to what he told me the first time we talked...you name it...the whole playbook of sleazy, unethical used car salesmen. I tried to tell him that I m not trying to argue with him...just give him the results out of the report but he simply wouldn't have it. Who ever is considering this car or any car at Auto Boutique Chicago...have it checked out and do not buy sight unseen!!! His behavior and blunt Negation or shall I say lies about the condition of this Cayenne leads me to believe the other cars on the lot are just as bad. The car is basically a neglected 11 year old luxury car that has not seen proper service since 2012....or during the last 45k of the 86k miles on the odometer.... and a similar specimen can be picked up for 10k or 11k at any auction!!! After this whole incident with Zak I decided to waste some more time on my end for the hell of it and contacted the last shops on the carfax and through jumping some more hoops on the Internet/DMV got the name/contact of the previous owner. Talked to them and basically the lady traded the car in at a VW dealer because it needed a ton of work and she finally got tired of it earlier this year. Funny enough, exactly the stuff that popped up during the PPI (multiple oil leaks, brakes on all 4 corners which is $3-4K alone, electrical stuff, hoses, bushings, etc) is the stuff that the previous owner did not want to address and the reason she traded the car in. Zak didn't address these either in the meantime...go figure...in his eyes the car is perfect...the report lies and everybody is wrong but him. For whomever is interested, I d be glad to share the report with....but let's face it, if you re not a mechanic or have your own shop...this car WILL cost you close to $15k to fix on top of the $18.9 purchasing price...and that is the bare minimum without any unknowns coming up. Spare your time, buy one for $30k in that case that is a collector/enthusiast car in great shape or go with a 2012 958 CTT or newer for $35k. Alternatively go to the auction and pick one up for $10k. My buddy just picked up a 2008 with 45k miles for $14k. Did it need work? Yes, about $2000 to make it perfect. But $16k for a low mileage / perfect condition car is a much better value proposition than this car for $33k all in (purchase price plus repairs). I figured not everybody is mechanically inclined like I am nor knows all the ins and outs of these cars and might get played by Zak with his BS tricks (car goes 100MPH straight like and arrow, pulls like a freight train, is in excellent shape, car has brake wear indicators so rotors can not be worn) or whatever else nonsense he will try to throw at you. And that is what I want to avoid...that's all. In the end I wish he would have just been honest, acknowledged some of the flaws and tried to have a reasonable discussion as to how they can be solved/addressed. But clearly no willingness there. Mind boggling that people with these kinds of soft skills (none at all) and such bad demeanor are able to sell cars at all. read more

With the caveat that I didn't get my car repaired here, or buy a car from them, these guys were a lifesaver when I got a flat tire a couple blocks away from their shop. My Land Rover had a flat, and the wrench in my tool kit was having trouble with the lug nuts. At least a half-hour after closing I walked in asking for help. Without hesitation the salesman and mechanic lent me all the Snap-On tools and sockets necessary to get the lug nuts off. I left with the tools, changed the tire, and returned later to a nearly empty shop. I gave the tools back, no questions asked, just a smile and a handshake from the guy closing up. I came to the Auto Boutique for an auto detail. I dropped my car off and when I came back to pick my car up there were scratches in the leather seat. I brought them to Zak's attention he said tears can happen when they clean the ventilation in the seats and said he stands by his work and would have the seat repaired. We set a date for the repairs, but when I came back Zak refused to repair the seat unless I left the car unattended. I ask if I could sit in the waiting room because the car was my only means of transportation and assured him I was in no rush. Zak said no and that he would only repair the seat if I left the car and that I was not allowed to wait in the waiting room. Zak did not repair the seat even though he said he would and said he stands by his work, he did not refund me the $90 auto detail either. Buyers beware this place sells piece of trash cars. I purchased a car CASH ALMOST 10,000.00$ cash June 5th 2015 and less than 24 hours the car broke down with me and my 4 children in it. I was told I had a 30 day warranty threw the dealership and the dealership suggested I get the extended warranty that would kick in 45 days after purchase. I paid for the warranty 6-18-15 so the dealership supposedly fixed the problem which was the fuel pump but the owner or manager Zak told me this car had been inspected and this was new that was new and he stand behind his work and he was a mechanic for Audi. So the fuel pump was replaced. I pick the car up and the entire ride was over come by gas I call him he comes get the car and what do you know they wired something wrong and the fuel/ exhaust was entering the car. I have 4 children 2 young 6 month old and 4 year old thank GOD THEY WASNT IN THE CAR THAT DAY. So they fix the car I pick it up and on my way home I stop at a gas station and gas was pouring out from under my car. With my 2 children in the car.They fix that I pick it up and now I hear knocking sounds while driving. Lol they fix that 2 weeks later it smells as if something is burning under the hood. So at this point I have asked several times about the info I need for the warranty every time I asked he said you should get something in the mail soon. Finally I say hey Zak what's going on with the warranty he emails me the warranty info finally and guess what he submitted it an entire month after I paid him so now I have to wait an additional month before I can use it so now I have no car. This dealership is full of shit. I recorded all phone calls and I also recorded all interaction while I was at his dealership each time, and I also have pictures DO NOT BUY FROM THAT PLACE THEY SELL TRASH ASS CARS. I'm in the process of contacting my lawyer. And the BBB.I was more than patient and willing to work with him but now I'm so inconvienced. I also have text messages.
