What started out as a small job turned into a pretty big job? I noticed some of the wood trim around the base of the house was looking pretty old and weathered. I hired a handyman to do some of the repairs. To my surprise, I was told by my handyman that I should consider a termite inspection. The rotted wood trim was not water damage and it looked to be termites that were eating away at all of my wood trim. I took his advice and did some research on YELP and other web sites too. I called Mike and he answered right away and we agreed on time for an inspection. After the inspection, Mike was very thorough and told me that I should consider having my house treated, but he was not pressuring me at all. I even asked him for some competitors in the area and I was really surprised when he provided some other companies to consider. I have to say, I really didn't need a second opinion. Mike was very fair with his price and was definitely knowledgeable. I had my handyman remove all of the old trim around the base of the house and expose some of the foundation. Guess what? These critters had eaten away at some of the wood around the foundation too! WOW!! Now, my handyman tells me that I should consider replacing some of the foundation wood (sill plates) as the termites had been hard at work. I pondered if I should wait or just go ahead and fix everything. Well, I decided to hire a contractor and I asked Mike if he had any companies in mind. He provided one contact and I looked up several others online. After 5 interviews with different contractors, I ended up hiring the contractor that Mike recommended. To make a long story short, everything was completed and the foundation work repaired. It wasn't as expensive as I thought it was going to be. Good! Mike satisfactorily took care of us in 2011 so we called up last fall 2014 when we heard the scamper of little feet again in our garage. Unfortunately, there seemed to have been a change in philosophy in his approach to business. After writing out the check for $299 (good for 30 days, and a discount I was told), no one showed up or inquired how things were unless I called. Shame on me that I didn't ask for the details as to when to expect him to show up on site to check traps, or how many visits my $299 got me. Maybe Mike should consider making that info part of the initial visit to make sure we all understand what to expect. I had to call him a couple of times to find out when he was coming to check traps. He sent his buddy who spent more time inquiring about the goods in the garage than taking care of business. When Mike came, more discussion about our sightings and promises to take care of their hidey holes, but I never saw him again. Our 30 days just ticked by. I discovered what I thought were termite droppings around the entire front of our home about 2 weeks ago. I called Michael Furlong and due to his busy schedule,he came out and gave a free inspection last week. When I showed him the areas of infestation, he smiled and told me not to worry as my problem was not termites but a large infestation of crickets!!! It turns out that the droppings they leave behind are very similar to termite droppings. Needless to say, I was extremely relieved! Here's the deal. This is by far the best pest control company I've been with. My previous one was doing okay but then got bought out by Terminix. Shortly their after I started seeing more ants in my house.
