Bait-N-Switch at it's finest...
Homeowners beware! After contacting "Pro" Lawn Cut through Thumbtack last Friday, I was quickly set up with a Monday on-site estimate (so far so good). Their posted reviews were all 4-5 stars and the statements left by previous customers were excellent. The representative that contacted me through Thumbtack was very prompt with his/her replies, and gave lots of useful information up front (Awesome!). Based on the size of my yard (Lot size - minus house sf/ft, driveway...etc) we determined that my yard was less than 5000 sq/ft. Based on that info, their chart showed that yards that size would require $30-$35 for bi-weekly service (mow, edge & blow).
Fast forward to yesterday (Mon) evening around 6pm. The crew showed up, took a look at my yard with minimal landscaping, and quoted me $75 for the initial appt, and $60 for bi-weekly service. Exxxxxxcuse me??? The crew lead explained that he could not reach the office personnel for clarification since they were gone for the night. Understandable. He offered to bump it down to $50, thinking that I was just stalling, and playing hard to get.
Tuesday morning (now):
The office representative emailed me back very early (much appreciated), but stated "this is why we send the crew to check it out. The price listing we sent you is an estimate. The best we can do is $45 (+tax) on a bi-weekly service." Soooo, the initial estimate was only off by a factor of 2x. Good grief!
My neighbor's lot is 3000 sq/ft larger than mine, and his landscaping company (3-man crew) charges him $40 bi/weekly. Just let that sink in a little bit....
Thank goodness for my my neighborhood FB community. Within minutes of posting a similar review of this company on our neighborhood FB page, I had received multiple recommendations for various companies and individuals that charge $30-$35 per visit.
Fellow Yelpers, I would highly recommend asking your family, friends and neighbors for their lawn service recommendation before trying out this company. Your time is too valuable, and your money can go much further with someone else.
Have a great summer everyone! read more
