This was by far my worst experience ever was an auto shop and I have had many good experiences. Sketchy. My car wouldn't start I bought it a couple months ago used from a dealer so I called up AAA and the mechanic recommended that instead of taking it to my dealer that I take it to this auto shop. The car was taken around noon and I did not hear back from the actual auto shop until around five or 6 PM right before they closed. The gentleman stated that there was nothing he could do for my car and I asked him if there would be paperwork or a diagnostic or anything like that and he said no, that he had listened to the vehicle and it has been in the business for 30 years to know that it was my engine. This man did not run any tests and then stated that he had listened to the vehicle and that I would have to pay $65 storage overnight or pick it up within the next 30 minutes. I was given very little notice about the overnight storage fee and had I known that I would've taken it directly to the actual car service dealership. I got a call in the morning from the mechanic at this auto shop and he stated that he thought that he there was some thing he could do if I agreed to pay him an hour of labor. $160 /hour . I had already gone through all the trouble of trying to figure out the AAA towing situation with the car and taking it that I figured why not maybe he can fix it because he sounded so confident that he could fix it. He called me about 30 minutes later and stated that he did not have the correct tools to fix or to check the vehicle and however offered to take the engine out for a diagnostic for $500... I very quickly started to feel swindled and like this place was not reliable or trustworthy. I called AAA again to get my car out of the auto shop immediately and upon arrival I noticed that there was already damage to my car see photos below. I told him that I did not think that it was appropriate to charge me an hour of labor for an hour of labor that was not completed and he said that was fine but that I would still have to pay the $65 overnight fee for my car being there. I pay the man and was on my way to taking it, not knowing what was done to the vehicle or if he had made it worse off than when it came as a rat or no official paperwork at all. I thought that I was gonna have a bitter experience considering that the AAA mechanic recommended I go to him and called him personally and I am just shocked to see how many positive reviews are are. I did not feel like the team cared and I felt like because I could hear that I was not a man on the other side of the phone, they could squeeze a couple hundred bucks out of me. First the short version: our experience with Pro Auto Shop was the BEST, period. Late Saturday night just before Easter, our 2005 Honda Civic's temperature gauge spiked and wouldn't go down. We were 500 miles from home, and 4 of us needed to be back for work on Monday. Desperation time. Luckily, AAA sent us an excellent mechanic (from Carmel Towing, Pro Auto Shop's towing arm) who reassured us that the car would be safe to drive to our hotel -- and then to Pro Auto Shop on Monday morning. (He followed to make sure we got back safely.) Edie tested our car thoroughly, diagnosed a transient air bubble in the cooling system, and had us safely on our way within an hour -- on a busy post-holiday morning. We only wish we lived near enough to their Hollywood location to use them for all our cars all the time. We wouldn't go anywhere else if we did. read more

Eddie is the absolute best! been here 3 times over the years, the last one being yesterday to have him fix 2 tires that Just Tires on Beverly royally messed up. (I only went there because it was a Sunday). Eddie, thank you for always being transparent, friendly, prompt, honest and efficient. I truly appreciate that people like you still exist in the world! I have a sentimental attachment to my 2006 Scion XB although she's nearing the 300k mile mark and has a few dings. When my car began dying with no obvious cause, I depended on AAA to rescue me far too often. Jesus from Carmel Towing came to my aid last week and suggested I let Pro Auto try to find the problem other mechanics could not. I took his advice and am immensely grateful. Ed had a tough assignment as it took a few days for the car to replicate the problem for him but once it did he was able to find and fix the solution at a reasonable price. Everyone at the shop is polite, knowledgeable and efficient. Los Angeles is a car town and having a trustworthy mechanic is like having a winning lotto ticket!! Notice all the negative reviews are from women. They intentionally try to take advantage of you. I used to go here for years with a mechanic named Pete. He was wonderful and always explained things, was never patronizing. Now a mechanic named Eddie is there and is entirely different. I came by to replace my spark plugs. They told me they needed to run a full diagnostic on the engine for $170 before they even did anything. Outrageous price and doesn't make sense to do, since if it's anything beyond the spark plugs or ignition coils, it's not even worth the value of the car to fix. I told them no and to just replace the spark plugs, which cost $200 (still a really high price for something that takes 20min). After that, they let me know there was a leak so I replaced the valve cover gasket myself (since their labor is through the roof), but then another spark plug wasn't firing correctly. Turns out there was still a lot of oil around the plug and ignition coil. I think they spitefully didn't clean anything around the spark plug because I didn't do their diagnostic and told them to just replace the plugs, even though they would have seen this oil while replacing and it takes a second to wipe away. TLDR overpriced, if you're going to charge premium labor prices, offer premium level service. They take advantage of you especially if you're a young woman and they think you don't know anything. YouTube is your best friend. You can do more on your own than these people let on. I hate when mechanics try to take advantage of women. read more

The keys to life: Have a a good doctor, a good lawyer and a good mechanic. I have long searched in vain for that mechanic. I do believe that mechanic to be Eddie and his team now. He lives up to the hype. I read the one 1 star horror review from a customer who was in the EXACT same situation as I was (ie AAA tow truck driver suggests his friends place - naturally - and time is of the essence so with great reluctance you go with it. I quickly look up yelp reviews en route and they look great. But the 1 star tow truck referral driver story made me nervous. Anyways it was end of day so left it over night. Not only did he fix it the next day and called with quick and steady updates and estimates - the price was way less than I dreaded. I have no doubt if I took it to my local Firestone which is a little closer they'd have not only charged more for the same, but lied about what else I needed and then take all day if not more than a day to perform the work whilst not communicating missed deadlines. Eddie is the greatest. So relieved to have my mechanic situation in LA finally sorted for the future as my car conspires against me as it surely will. read more

Let's get 2 things straight; I'm a girl and I know NOTHING about cars. Needless to say I'm every mechanics wet dream and cash flow. So, when my car overheated on the side of the road and the tow truck guy suggested Pro Auto I thought for sure I was about to get a run for my money; they had to be in on it together, right??!! Wrong!! Ed, who runs the shop, was amazing!! I couldn't say enough nice things about him. He quickly found the problem by the time I had a chance to call, gave me an incredible price and gave up a large opportunity to screw me over. I had my radiator replaced, hose and filter for $395, all within a few hours. I was carless for less than 24 hours and didn't spend an arm and a leg to do it. Go see Ed, he's the best!!! I recently had my battery replaced under warranty though a different place, but when they put the new battery in, my entire Instrument Cluster went out. They said they weren't sure why it wasn't working, and of course I wasn't going to pay an absurd amount of money to take my car to the Chevy dealership, just for them to diagnose the issue. So, I called Pro Auto shop and they said they could take a look at it. Within 10 minutes, the issue was fixed. These guys were so kind and willing to help me, even though it could've easily been a more intricate issue. Great pricing too! Awesome place. I called Ed's based on Yelp reviews when Pep Boys told me I needed a new radiator, thermostat and a bunch of other stuff to the tune of $1075. I had a 2001 Camry and steam or smoke was coming through the vents, which freaked me out (hence the drop off at 7pm at PepBoys). Ed and Eddie were very helpful the night I picked up the car and got it to them at 5:45pm. They said it did not seem like the radiator, but I could leave it of bring it back. I drove it away, feeling a little safer, but the steam happened again so I took it back. Bless their hearts they were still there and took my info and let me leave it. The next day they looked it over thoroughly. Yep -radiator was fine. So was Thermostat. But Engine light was on, a hose was put on backward (by Firestone), and there were a few other things wrong. The upshot is, because of their diagnostics, I was led to leasing a new car. So they did not get my business with the Camry, but they will get it with this new car, and I will tell everyone I can to go to Ed's for their car work. read more

Got a tow, diagnosis, FULL clutch replacement, and a few bonus parts - all for a great price, and in about 48 hours. The whole crew here is great, but Eddie is the man. Walked me through all the gory details of the needed repair with a smile... despite the phone ringing off the hook, and despite a long queue of cars and customers (many of them far more urgent-looking) waiting for his attention. I had just replaced the front shocks in my car at a place in Culver City, and the previous mechanic didn't re-attach the axle properly. Ed fixed the axle that day, and charged me a price much lower than I was expecting. Since then, I've gone to Pro Auto for all of my automotive needs. Ed never pushes unneeded services, or charges exorbitant prices. He also doesn't talk down or condescend you, acting as if you know nothing. I had a minor problem with my 2013 Nissan Rogue and when I brought it in Friday night, I was told to come back first thing Saturday morning. My car was seen right away and after 30 minutes, the work was finished. I was so thankful for how quickly and attentive everyone was, I wasn't too concerned about the price because I had such good service. Finding the right mechanic anywhere can be very daunting. Finding an honest in Los Angeles even more difficult. In the past few years that I've been coming to Pro Auto Shop I have been blown away by the amazing service and especially the honesty from this establishment. Eddie always tells me like it is and has NEVER tried to sell me a servicing or trick me into a fix my car didn't need. More than often he explains the little hiccups my older Subaru Outback comes down with and, either suggests I just go to Auto Zone for some fluids or, on more than one occasion, just fixed the minor adjustment for free! I don't know anything about car engines whatsoever, he could have just as easily taken me out to the cleaners and lied to me for a servicing I didn't need. The few times my car needed a fix , Eddie repaired everything beautifully and those repairs are have held up ever since. Hey guys! Seriously, this is the BEST mechanic in LA. I have lived here for 11 years, have been through many mechanics and I am telling you, Ed is one of the most honest, fair, generous and forthright mechanics out there. Ed is the kind of guy that'll tell you upfront whether or not something needs to be repaired. There have been many times when I have gone in, because I thought something needed to be repaired, and Ed told me flat out that it didn't. I don't know much about cars and he could have easily taken me for a ride, but he's not like that. He is honest and is interested in loyal business. There have also been many times, when he did work for me out of the kindness of his heart, just because he thought it would be a nice thing to do. In addition, the last time I went in to get my car fixed, I couldn't afford a rental car for the time I had to leave it there, so he decided to give me a loaner car to drive! I mean, find another mechanic who will do that for you! To sum it up, the last thing he said to me when I left his shop last week was, "We're not here for very long. Ed is incredible!! My smashed up Prius got towed here and once we figured out it wasnt worth fixing (its a 2004, and by smashed up I mean destroyed), he helped me sell it. All the while he answered my dumb questions professionally and dealt with my numerous delays calmly. He even offered to have someone come get me while I was car-less so I didnt have to walk to the shop! Ed really knows what he is talking about and he really wants the best for his customers. This review is a few months late but better late than never, right? I had a bunch of friends coming in town for the Rose Bowl National Championship Game in January, so I figured it's as good a time as any to get the old stereo replaced in my 1973 Chevy K5 Blazer. After pulling out of the stereo shop with my new stereo freshly installed, I noticed my radiator was leaking. Long story short, it was kaput, done. I got on the trusty old iPhone and dialed Ed (Owner at Pro Auto Shop/Carmel Towing). He almost always answers himself. He did this time as well. I told him the problem and he told me to bring the Blazer in. And even though they were slammed busy in preparation for the weekend (this was Thursday Jan 2nd) he told me if I overheat to give him a call right away so he could come out and tow me in to the shop. I made it in to the shop and Ed greeted me as always with a huge recognizable smile and a solid handshake. He quickly evaluated that the radiator did in fact need to be replaced and he would be able to make it happen in a day or so. Then I told him my dilemma. I planned on "tour-guiding" and tearing around L.A. over the weekend with my out of town guests so I need the radiator fixed in 36 hours. Remember this was on a Thursday afternoon. Ed told me he would see what he could do. The next morning ONLY 18 HOURS LATER I got the call from Eddie (Ed's right hand man) that my truck was ready for pick up with a brand new radiator installed!!! Ed and the crew at Pro Auto Shop did it again, a great job and at a very reasonable price!!! Everybody over there that I have dealt with is professional, courteous, and straightforward. The old saying goes "Lead by Example". Well, with Ed as their leader, the crew at Pro Auto are doing great! ***This is the second review I have written for Ed as every experience I have here rocks! The staff and service is amazing and they are always so quick even when I stop by last min my car has always been ready to go again in a couple of hours. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Dropped my car off here on a recommendation from the tow-truck driver (which I trusted, since they have all these glowing 5-star reviews), and when I called in the morning I couldn't get ahold of anyone. After two days of trying to reach them, having them tell me they would get back to me the next day after they had looked over my car, the not hearing from them and having to physically go down there AGAIN to find out what was going on I finally just decided to take my car elsewhere. It had been three days and they hadn't even looked at it. When I went to pick up my car, I walked up to it and they told me the key was in the car. They didn't ask for any proof of ownership, and the guy had never seen me before. Anyone could've walked up and driven off with my car. Super shady and unprofessional. read more

DO NOT take your car here. All the people are incompetent. I dropped my car off and they told me they would have answers for me after a test drive. They put off the test drive two days and never ended up doing it. I called to tell them I was going to take it elsewhere and the line was busy. Very unprofessional. I showed up and my car was running with nobody in it and I told them their service was unacceptable and I would be taking it to another shop and they just told me to go ahead and take it without even confirming I was actually the owner of the vehicle.
