There are few places so compelling that you have to pause and review. I have been seeing Dr. Oza for the past 5-6 weeks. I came to her with all the classic post-partum issues of abdominal separation (diastasis recti), plantar fascitis, tendonitis and she has been working on each section in a holistic inter-connected manner. You would think that these issues are properly recognized and treated but my OB did not recommend this work. I realized something was off about my body. Postpartum issues are not so well addressed but Dr. Oza is one of the few in my terrace who truly understands these topics. She is extremely good with her hands and can by mere touch understand the tense areas. I feel very supported in my post-partum journey with her. Moreover, she ended up being a great friend / giving some great advice almost motherly as I recover. Is also equally strict and make sure I come on time, baby or not. No excuses. I learnt to appreciate it :) read more

If I could give 10 stars, I would! I first got referred to Nupur after a knee surgery (which she said was quite unnecessary!) Nupur patiently worked with me, explaining what she is doing, why she is doing it and also explaining the inner workings of the knee joint. I was on my feet within a few weeks, along with a few good habits and corrected posture thrown in! I was good for about 5 years, when the pain in the knee started again. I went to an ortho who said it was arthritis, and I should not even climb stairs. I went to Nupur, she again worked on me and I was climbing 7 floors everyday and also completed a strenous hike after she was done. 5 more years later - I had a frozen shoulder. Went to an ortho who said there is absolutely nothing that will help me, it will get worse, and will get fixed on its own in approximately a year. I asked about physical therapy and she said PTs would deserve an award if they could fix this. I sat on this for a couple days and refused to accept this answer. Went to see Nupur. It has been a difficult issue, as the rest of the body was heavily compromised due to this issue. It is taking more than a few months, but I have about 95% mobility now. We started with about 5%! The pain is negligible. Nupur and Nibha deserve that award! Overall, I cannot thank Nupur and Nibha enough. They both understand what is going on, think outside the box - and are not afraid to try new things while being mindful of not hurting anything in the process. I have recommended them to a lot of friends and will continue to do so! read more

I completely recommend Dr. Nupur Oza for any physical therapy you might need. I had a minor fall that resulted in an painful twisted ankle and at first I cared for it myself with ice and the traditional at-home methods, but since my pain persisted for many days I decided to go into Pro Active. Dr. Oza was incredibly helpful and professionally assessed my ankle and provided me with a high-quality ankle support that helped me recover quickly. My ankle healed much more quickly with Nupur's care, and although I have hesitated to go to physical therapy for "small" injuries in the past, this positive experience at Pro Active has changed my mind. Thank you Dr. Oza! read more

Had a very acute pain in my right hand. Could not perform normal work at home too. My doctor suggested physiotherapy. So I came here and Nupur was my therapist. She is just excellent. My hand pain is gone completely and I am now able to play badminton too. She is very sweet & friendly and has also suggested some yoga poses and stretches to maintain myself. Thanks a lot Nupur! read more

I went in for hand/wrist pain that had been bothering me for four months. There were a lot of people in the waiting area, but I still wanted to give this place a chance. Dr. Nupur only saw me for 6 minutes (I actually timed the visit)--maybe she was too busy to really see me. I was billed my entire copay and given a brace--which I was later told by a physical medicine doctor was useless and should not be used for the issue I was having. I wasn't given a home program, exercises, stretches or anything. A few days ago, I get another bill (even though I've already paid my copay and paid for the brace I didn't need). In summary--issues with billing, issues with the visit. My concerns weren't taken seriously and I stopped with the one visit since I wasn't given any actual physical therapy. read more

I was scheduled to have a first appointment with Proactive. I went into the office a week before the meeting to be sure that I would be ready. I was told to fill out the paperwork and to be sure that I had sent my prescription in. I also gave them my insurance so that they could be sure that I was covered. All of this was completed in advance of my appointment. The day of the appointment I showed up on time with all paperwork filled out and checked in with the front desk. Then I waited. And waited And waited No one told me what was going on. After 20 minutes I told them that I was leaving. I find it incredibly disrespectful to be told to show up on time to an appointment, only to have the doctor not reciprocate and show up reasonably on time - 20 minutes late is unreasonable. As a professional in the Silicon Valley, we all need to run our schedules relatively on time. When you have an appointment, we should expect the same timeliness that they expect of us. If I hadn't of shown up, I'm sure that they would have been more than happy to charge me for the missed appointment. What about the lost time I gave up? I recommend not going to this place. read more

Update : Just wanted to update the review for 2 new PTs at Proactive. Nibha Kumbhani and Akanksha Sojitra are working under the guidance of Nupur and doing an excellent job at Pro Active physical therapy Sunnyvale Nibha is very knowledgeable and open to exploring new techniques to get to the root cause of the pain. She uses a combination of manual, laser and tense machine to first relieve the pain and then begin strengthening. She has gentle bed side manner and genuine interest in the patient. This clinic treats the body as a connected system rather than treating a part in isolation. If you want to learn how different parts of your body work together to cause an issue and how to resolve it , Nibha is your person. I have worked with Akanksha on a few occasions and she is great at assessing your injury , history and suggest a plan of action. She understands your goals and builds a treatment plan to suit your schedule. She prescribes in home stretch and strengthening plan along with the clinic visits for faster recovery. read more

Emailed to inquire when would be a good time to schedule a first appointment for pelvic therapy post c section. Received no response for a week. So I called. The person answering the phone had no idea. They consulted with the Director of the clinic. Still no idea. Then they suggested I come in for an appointment the day after my c section. So while I would hope everyone who knows anything about pelvic care post c section would know that this is a major abdominal surgery requiring a hospital stay of four days, not an out patient procedure, they appeared bafflingly unaware. I don't know what kind of operation this is, but I would go somewhere else. read more

I had a very bad lower back pain and also neck pain. My doctor recommended physical therapy and I tried 2 places earlier which did not work out very well for me. Luckily I came across Pro-Active and after almost 15 sessions I started feeling much better. Nibha and Pooja were great and treated my lower back and Neck very patiently and I continued with my streches and exercises recommended by them on a daily basis. After the treatment I could get back to my routine workout programs. I am very happy with the overall service. read more

To start with, I am one of those people who never comment anything or promote anyone in social media. I had to come here and comment because of the flawless work done by Nupur with my lower back issues and how she made me understand my body like never before. I had a really bad lower back pain because of a combination of playing badminton, tennis, shifting home and not exercising due to the abundance of things happening around me. As a result I had a severe lower back pain which prevented me from doing even the mundane stuff (like sitting at desk to work). I went to Nupur because of recommendations from my colleague at work (he is a very athletic guy who had similar issues in the past and Nupur helped him out too). It took me about 6-7 weeks and 12 visits to identify, work on and resolve the lower back issue caused by weak Sacrum muscles and bad L4 L5 spine segment. One of the things that I loved in proactive is they do not just treat the symptom and they are very thorough with their diagnosis. A very friendly and helpful staff. All in all I am a very happy guy and today is my 12th visit. I have come a long way to achieving a very good level of fitness in a very long time, thanks to Nupur and the staff at Proactive physical therapy. Cheers! read more

I highly recommend Nupur for Physical Therapy. I had several different issues one after other and Nupur was best in helping me recover and gain strength so that I could even do half marathon. I had herniated disc, then right knee injury and my left knee was very weak from years ago injury. She patiently worked with me on one injury at a time, focused on root cause and fixing that, working thru strengtnhing the core, so not only the symptoms are cured but makes you stronger that injury doesn't occur again. It's a slow process, but Nupur was there always to help and focus on rebuilding muscles strength so injury doesn't happen again. I couldn't have done my half marathon without injury if it was not for rehab therapy provided by Nupur. Thanks a lot Also the staff is very friendly and supportive and easier to work with. I highly recommend this place. read more

I came in with an extremely tight right calf and ankle, barely able to place my foot on the ground. I looked up the PT centers closest to me, and found it incredibly easy to book at Pro-Active. A special note: I had to come in almost every day for almost 2 months, and never did I have to wait at the reception for more than 5 minutes. They run a fairly efficient operation, and I was particularly impressed with their consistent punctuality. There were 2-3 days when I had to cancel last minute, and they were very considerate about it - no charges or frowns. Kudos! The receptionist, however, can smile a bit more :) Nupur (the owner) was my PT, and she is one of the warmest people I have met. Very professional and experienced - establishes trust and rapport from the first session itself. Personally, I like her style of talking through the session, as it calms my nerves, but not all may appreciate it. She was relentless in addressing the pain points, and each session moved us a step forward. Importantly, they are not greedy - when sessions were not required, they told me so. Truly appreciate it! Nibha is the other PT, and has a different style from Nupur, but equally effective. She is strict and professional, and truly focussed on the job at hand. She will reprimand you if you slack on your 'homework', and that is needed for people like me. Everyone else - Megan, Khushi - create a very positive environment at the center. They are always upbeat, and it adds to the vibe of the place. I have knocked off a star for two reasons - 1. they need to do a slightly better job in getting/replacing the covering on the beds/pillows. For OCD folks like me who are very hygiene conscious, this might be a minor hiccup. Also, walled cubicles or noise-cancellation headphones might help the patients relax. 2. At times, Nupur can be a bit quick to share her judgement. While she is just sharing initial impressions and being honest, it can weigh you down. She says she's comfortable being wrong, but it's probably worth for her to go through a few sessions before pronouncing a premature judgement. I don't want her to change this aspect, but would request her to be more cautious with her words. The important bit is that the intent is positive and helpful, and that is the most evident feature of the PT here. Pick this place without a moments' hesitation! read more

I went to Nupur for recurring upper back pain in my left shoulder and neck. She worked with me to build an exercise, stretching and yoga routine that I believe will keep my back issues from ever returning. I appreciate her pragmatic approach and that she draws solutions both from current research and traditional practices. She treats the whole body, not just the spot where I was feeling pain. I feel I understand the root causes of my back pain better, and have a plan for keeping my back and the rest of my body in great shape going forward. She is everything I could ask for in a physical therapist. Also, the rest of the staff at Pro-Active is the best. Mary at the front desk is friendly and conscientious. She is great about reminding me of appointments, answering questions and keeping track of the administrative details. Nupur's assistants all know their job and are great at making sure I fell welcome, comfortable and am following my exercise routine. I felt well cared for by everyone at Pro-Active. read more

I was referred to see Dr. Nupur by my family doctor as I have tennis elbow and IT issues. The second she touched that elbow and spotted where the pain is, I was like, wow, interesting. Then she did her magic on my elbow and arm, it a matter of couple of days, the sharp pain was gone and only left with recovery pain. As I told her, you can do magic. Highly recommend. read more

Yelp 5 star reviews may not necessarily mean it is 5 star and go to that business blindly. Always read bad comments first. I had bad experience with this business. Nupur (owner) was unable to diagnose my problem and felt offended whenever I questioned about my medical situation. She might be good in loosening up tight muscle but everything in body is not muscle. She totally overlooked my symtoms which were getting worse day by day. Here is my advice to all patients: 1) Before going to Physical Therapist, it is worth to see your PCP (Primary care physician) and Dr. to diagnose you and give you information exactly what has happened to you. 2) Getting massage from Physical Therapy may temporarily lower your pain and symptoms but it may not be healing. Ask these questions very specifically to your PCP or Therapist. If either of them is not giving you satisfactory answer fire them and take your business somewhere else. It is after all your money and time is involved. 3) It is myth that more frequent therapy session means faster recovery. Ask this question to your PCP (not Physical Therapist) about number of recommended visits per week and for how many total weeks. Physical Therapist makes money on per session basis so they will welcome you no matter what. Thanks. read more

Dr. Nupur and her team, Dr. Nupur is absolutely exceptional at the line of work that she does. I was diagnosed in March of 2016 with nerve entrapment of my tibial and peroneal nerves due to an injury back in December of 2015 (misdiagnosed 9 times before that don't want to get into that). I saw another PT prior to visiting Dr. Nupur and had no advancement in my progress. My symptoms are as follows prior to treatment with Dr. Nupur: motor weakness in my gastrocnemius, quad, glute, and toes. I couldn't walk or run without becoming fatigued for a period of no more then twenty minutes. My gate pattern was off dramaticlly, which she helped readjust. Within the first few visits to Dr. Nupur's office I was able to have full contraction of my gastrocnemius, and after my treatment of two months I was able to walk and run with full mobility for the first time in two years. Dr. Nupur's philosophy is different then many people in her line of work. She is attentive to the patient, listens and explains in great depth. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for an exceptional PT. Her team is also highly educated and friendly as well! Thank you for all of your help it is much appreciated- Justin read more

I'm surprised I'm the first reviewer for Pro-Active, so I'll try to be as thorough as possible. To be very clear, Pro-Active has a very caring staff and they will be there to see you through your rehabilitation. Unlike other places I've been, they're not going to rush you through just to get to the next patient. Where to begin.... For starters, people need to understand that going through physical therapy is not a quick fix, it involves dedication from you to do the proper exercises and stretches to heal your body when you aren't being treated. I've been extremely active all my life, so when I started feeling weak, I decided I needed to find a place that will put the same amount of dedication I was going to put in myself and Pro-Active is the only place I'd go. Regarding my personal treatment, I've been seeing Nupur for over a year now. I was referred to her by my Dr due to some pain in both my shoulders. After a few months of treatment and strengthening, Nupur had helped me eliminate the pain from my left shoulder. She was concerned that the right had not healed and suggested I get an MRI as she suspects it is a torn rotator cuff. Sure enough, it was. We modified my strengthening/stretching program to help the supporting muscles and although I still have the tear, I'm virtually pain free. I went from barely able to lift a bag of groceries to now being able to do free weights again. I've also seen Nupur to help strengthen and loosen my stiff ankle that I broke snowboarding the year before. She's also been helping me wtih my psoas muscle and IT band that has been restricting my hip movements as well as losen my back muscles. You'd be surprised how much scare tissue one could have after years of disregarding pain or lack of movement. We've made tremendous progress and I can't be happier with where I was before and where I am now. Regarding the staff and facilities. Pro-active is very clean:) I've been to chiropractors and acupuncturists that have been questionable, but at Pro-Active, you can always expect a clean towel and hospital paper to cover your bench. Fayhe is Nupur's other PT and also very knowledgable. Mary also helps out sometimes with ultrasounds and always calls a day before to remind you of your appointment. Overall, I can say I whole heartedly trust Nupur and her staff with helping me heal my body back to where it should be. read more

I've been going to Pro Active Physical Therapy in Sunnyvale for almost two years postpartum due to rectus diastasis. Nupur and Nibha are very attentive, personable, and knowledgeable about my problem. The clinic is very clean post and pre Covid-19, but even more so during Covid. They follow all necessary guidelines such as patients having their individual room and wiping down the area and equipment before and after being seen. The patients are also required to wear a mask prior and during the visit. I keep coming back to Nupur and Nibha because I feel the results and they have helped address common issues from working on a computer during long hours. Since then my body has recovered and I feel better than before. They work with you one-on-one at the clinic while coaching you through the exercises targeting personalized problem areas. They provide beneficial feedback to correct your form to help guide you to recovery. read more

So far , so good . My daughter is coming here for a sore shoulder that's been giving her pain . It was a simple process to go through insurance. We saw our family physician , had her get an X-ray and then she sent over the referral for PT. When I called Proactive they had already had everything set up, so when I came in it was a $15 copay and that was it . No issues with billing or anything. The lady at the front desk was a sweetie. So far my daughter has been feeling so much better! read more

I have only been to Nupur once so far for an evaluation but it was the most progress I've made and the most informed I've felt in 10 YEARS. She is open and friendly. She is not pushy and does not make you feel rushed. She listens well and speaks well and explains everything to you as an equal. I've had trouble with my lower back for a long time and the physical therapists and chiropractor who I've seen always seemed to take random guesses at what was wrong and then start some form of treatment. When I visited Nupur, she seemed to have a better idea of what was wrong just from asking me a few questions and she was very open about suggesting the steps we need to take to find out exactly what the problem is before trying to treat it. What a novel idea! =P I've been frustrated for years because nobody could give me any solid idea about what the actual underlying problem is and often the treatments they suggested didn't help or made things worse. After talking with Nupur, I feel sane again. And I feel hopeful for the first time in a long time. read more

I had been diagnosed with a herniated disc at C5-C6 and was suggested surgery at the ER. With a second opinion I got introduced to Proactive and Doctor Nupur and her team of experienced professionals have given me hope and brought me pretty close to where I was to prior to the incident. While you have to do your part of regular exercise and paying attention to your body signals, I couldn't have pulled it off without the able support of Nupur & Nibha in particular. - professional, right from the reception - very accommodating, - tireless efforts from their side to see their patients through, and last but not the least - extremely friendly and very approachable I would definitely recommend them to get an opinion first, before you resort to other options. read more

I started therapy at Pro-Active with mirrored symptoms in my left and right arms. Despite that, they would only make time to treat one area every day. Either my shoulders, left arm, or right arm. Never the whole picture. I should have known I was in for trouble when on the first appointment, Nupur did nothing to measure my current symptoms. No checking my range of motion, my strength, nothing. Half of my time there was spent strapped to a TENS unit, and the other 15-ish minutes was the only supervised, hands-on time I got. I was told to stop walking, stop exercising, stop stretching and just focus on improving my posture. Nupur's massage did temporarily improve my symptoms, but results would only last a day or two. Weeks of that later, I was allowed to do some stretches. Still no strengthening exercises. Nupur was often short with me and would make assumptions about my existing knowledge. She'd recommend I do a specific stretch, and she'd act flustered that she'd have to demonstrate it to me. Finally during my last appointment of my original planned treatment period, she cornered me in the back of the room and gave a very stern lecturing to me about how "the power is fine" while pulling on my arms, and acting offended that I wasn't doing better. I'm upset because had she just admitted that she did not best know how to treat my symptoms, I could have sought out someone else sooner. Every day counts when it comes to keeping an acute injury from becoming chronic. read more

One of the best places in the world. When all hope seemed lost, Pro-Active Physical Therapy has been a blessing. Nupur is highly knowledgeable and I learned so much about myself. During times I felt like giving up, Pro-Active Physical has gave me hope. A few weeks ago, I suffered from a sudden catch in my lower back muscle and found it challenging to stand and walk. Akanksha, an experienced physiotherapist at Proactive, designed a custom program to help me manage and heal my pain without letting it affect my daily routine. Since I spend about 40-50 hours a week in front of a computer screen, Akanksha chalked out a program where I could perform simple exercises for short intervals during my regular work hours. She also suggested longer exercise routines that could be performed 3-4 times a week. During these unprecedented times, it was great that we were able to work together through my healing process using just virtual video appointments without risking exposure to COVID. With Akanksha's help I was able to strengthen my lower back and setup a more ergonomic work environment at home. I would highly recommend her service at Proactive. read more

Referred to them by my primary care physician, wasn't previously aware of them. I've recently "graduated" from around six months with the folks at Pro-Active for some troublesome sciatic and other issues I developed following surgery last year, and it's been a consistently great experience. With a combination of electrotherapy, rolling, stretching, and exercises, they've helped untie a metaphorical Gordian knot of muscular and other issues and given me excellent tools I can use going forward--the results have been great. I've also felt supported and enjoyed the personal, cheerful style of everyone there. Finally, they worked with my insurance effectively and smoothly. read more

Dr Nupur Oza, is one of the finest physiotherapists I have met. I started seeing her after my childbirth as I was experiencing constant pain in my tail bone - I was unable to sit for a longer duration or can't walk for a longer time. I went for a consultation and she caught the problem. Along with the treatment that she was giving, she also made a workout routine for me and taught me some exercise for the problem area. She recommended some postural changes in my daily life and vola!! everything worked great and I am out of pain. :) I also was suffering from chronic neck+upper back pain that was there even before childbirth, I never told her about that but she sensed it while treating my tail bone and during her analysis sessions. She also treated that pain and helped me increase my muscle power. I can only give her positive reviews. She has a magic in her hands and she comes with a good number of years of experience and expertise. Last but not the least, she greets you with a smile and will always listen to you and help you. read more

I tried pro-active PT with my rheumatologist's recommendation and I cannot be more happy with their service. I have been suffering from pain at a specific point in my upper back for past three years. I had tried several techniques(strengthening core, reducing weight, standing and working, taking meds) but nothing gave a lasting relief. With pro-active, from day one I felt the approach they took was in right direction. They first worked on loosening the upper back muscles and then aligning them and then finally strengthening them. Pro-Active Physical Therapy was able to help me get to pain-free long after I had given up on that being possible. I was doing a little of everything to help me get through the work week - massage, ice, heat, anti-inflammatories, acupuncture, chiropractic care. Each week seemed to get a little harder and by the end I was making use of my flex time at work to break up my work day into three parts so I could let my back and my shoulder rest. As someone who spends 80%+ of my time in front of a computer, the outlook was bleak. Nupur and Pro-Active was recommended by a co-worker and friend. The difference was clear from the beginning as I had tried physical therapy in the past. Nupur asked a lot of questions and evaluated my problem from first principles. She correctly identified the problem as not being my shoulder but my mid-back. She created a care plan and was clear in communicating what I could expect. The first few visits involved heat, deep tissue massage, some adjustments, and ultra-sound. Then slowly we added some stretching and eventually strengthening. I felt listened to and cared for every step of the way and couldn't be happier with the results. A year or so later my mom had problems with her sciatica. The doctor prescribed 2 cortisone shots and some strong anti-inflammatory medicine within a few weeks. It was bad. She had sharp shooting pain that woke her up in the night. I feel I could see her age before my eyes. She started having trouble with basic self-care and mobility. Pro-Active helped her get back to her old self and to enjoying her grandchild. Nupur had the ability to confidently and thoughtfully reach out and work with a frightened elderly woman who spoke limited English. I am so grateful. Thank you from both of us! read more

Run by a caring and pleasant staff, Pro-Active Physical Therapy was instrumental in helping me through a rough repetitive strain injury. I've been plagued with "Silicon Valley syndrome" for years. As time has gone on it has only gotten worse. Massage, heat, ice, Ibuprofen and stretching --- nothing helped alleviate the pain, it just kept worse until I was referred to Pro-Active Physical Therapy. Six sessions later and I'm back to 85% --- hopefully my doctor and insurance company will recommend a few more visits to get me back to normal. Thanks Pro-Active Physical Therapy! read more

The entire staff at Pro-Active is competent and caring, but it's Nupur Oza who sets the tone of the place and she is AMAZING. Two years ago, she helped my husband through healing his decades-old RSI issues in his back; he lives pain-free now, but is able to put in the hours at his silicon valley desk job. I knew Nupur was the person to turn to when I strained my rotator cuff and it wasn't healing up properly. I went first to my GP, then to an orthopedist, and they each said the same thing. "Well, as one gets older, these things take a bit longer. Just be patient and it will improve..." but it wasn't improving. It was actually worsening. I went to Nupur, and she took one look at me and said, "What happened on your right side? No, not your shoulder, your torso. Something happened?" It had been a year since my breast cancer surgery on my right breast and lymph node removal in that underarm area. Nupur saw right away, without looking at my medical records, that I had favored that side after the surgery, and atrophied the muscles in my core. This is what led to my shoulder injury in the first place, lifting with just my arm and not my entire body. Rather than working on my shoulder at the first, she had me rest it, and worked on my back, chest, and abdominal muscles, returning them to their original strength. Only then, is it time to work at rebuilding the shoulder to carry heavy loads again, with a solid foundation of muscle through the whole body. Go to Pro-Active if you're interested in a holistic thorough healing that will last you the rest of your life. I highly recommend them. read more
