And boy am I glad I did! We had 2 beers & 2 martinis (the price of beer was great compared to other places that will up-charge & the martinis were soooo good) We ordered 2 apps, the fried pimiento cheese & crab cakes. I have eaten there several times. The atmosphere is at least four star. The cocktails can be four-star. A few things are four-star like the appetizer crab. But I have found the entrées to be heavily Cajun spice did not to my liking. I think the bread was pretty good last time considering the pricing I would say, it's a special occasion, and if you don't like spicy Cajun style food, you might want to rethink it going there. read more

We ate at Private Property last night and were absolutely delighted with the food, service, and ambiance. Saw their menu online while traveling, and we were not disappointed! I've been to private property numerous times and can say the food is always outstanding. The staff are always pleasant and attentive. The fact that this restaurant is in an old home makes it that much better. You don't feel like you were in a totally open cafeteria environment and the set up in the individual rooms are private enough to have a nice relaxing meal. The staff was very friendly and our server (Chrissy) was very informative as well as attentive. I got Shrimp and Grits, and hubby got Blackened Red Fish with fried cream corn and mashed potatoes. Very initiate setting. Tables can be very close. Our server was great. She gave us great first time suggestions and explained the restaurant and cooking style. I was very impressed with how fast everything came out including the check! We had the alligator and juju shrimp appetizers. Both were good and would recommend. The blood orange martini was very good also. For entrees, the crawfish étouffée was loaded with crawfish, it needed just a lil more kick but overall pretty good. Now the redfish was the winner. Too many good things on the menu and not enough time to try them all! The She Crab soup is a different approach than other more traditional versions that are like canned clam chowder or a potato soup with a little crab. Their version is made with less cream, broth and more crab. The Fried Pecan Crusted Pimento Cheese was a big surprise and I will definitely order it again. The Blackened Alligator was very good, not overcooked and was great by itself but it went really well with the Cajun dipping sauce and coleslaw. For nicer restaurants, this place has very fair pricing for the portions and how tasty the food is. I ordered the bayou bounty entree and my boyfriend got the jambalaya. SO flavorful! I was pleasantly surprised at how every bite had great seasoning and sauces! None of the food was too dry or over cooked either, just perfect. The restaurant was upscale (white linen, low lighting, nice interior) and the prices were great for the quality you get ($30 for a good size piece of steak with two sides). Had the crab cake appetizer and for the main the rockfish and ribeye, loved all of it. The fried cream corn side melts in your mouth. This is a lovely restaurant- probably my favorite restaurant in the entire Lexington/Metropolitan-Columbia area! I have only lived in this area for less than a year, but have been here more than 5 times with my fiancé (he is from here and his family and him recommended it as soon as I moved here). Some of my favorites are the Mardi Gras Pasta & the She Crab Soup - both 10/10! The service is always on par. The setting is so cute, as it is in an old & a renovated Victorian Southern style home. Visited Private Property Saturday Night for Dinner made reservations for 9 Saturdays are really busy recommend doing reservations.The parking lot fills up fast but it's overflow parking in the lot across from the restaurant.We waited about 20 min to seated.Very simple menu server was extremely busy but she did her best and provided great customer service.We started with Crab Cakes they were ok for my main entree I ordered the shrimp and Grits and my wife ordered a bowl of gumbo with a side salad both entrees were awesome definitely recommend the shrimp and grits it was amazing.Seating inside the restaurant was very close really only downside to the experience.Overall great experience will be back.Thanks Again read more

We decided to try this restaurant for a birthday celebration after reading glowing reviews about their steak. We made a reservation for 2 on Saturday evening to ensure we got a table, though it wasn't too busy when we arrived and we probably would have been fine without one. We were seated quickly and greeted by our waitress, Kayla, who was great - she described a few dishes to us, helped us decide on an entrée, and was overall very attentive and friendly. We never had to look around for her because she was always one step ahead to refill drinks or ask us if we needed anything. We ordered the Swamp Tacos appetizer and they were delicious, I honestly wish I had just ordered another serving of them for my entrée! Neither person in my party had ever had alligator and we both liked these tacos a lot. The lemonade was also very good. I'm generally pretty picky about lemonades being too sour or too sweet, but it was just right. I ordered the Seafood Jambalaya, having never tried jambalaya before. I also tried cream corn for the first time here. They were both good, I'm just not a huge seafood fan so I can't really comment on the jambalaya. The other party member ordered the Blackened Ribeye with a side of mashed potatoes and pasta salad. The mashed potatoes were creamy and buttery. The pasta salad was mayonnaise-based and sweet. The ribeye was cooked perfectly, medium rare as requested and tasted delicious. Lastly we ordered Bread Pudding for dessert and it seems that they have started making it differently than they did 4 years ago based on the one picture of it here on Yelp. The texture was like oatmeal and while the flavor was good, we weren't a fan. Also regarding leaving a tip on the receipt, someone previously mentioned there wasn't a place to leave a tip if using a card but it would seem this has been fixed since then. You can leave a tip on the receipt if paying with a card. Overall the service and atmosphere was great. The food arrived quickly with the appetizer being served 10 minutes after we were seated and our entrées being served 20 minutes later, including the blackened ribeye. Only one of a few decent options in town and it is just not good enough to deal with its issues. First off, the Cajun food is just not really that tasty or memorable. Menu is limited and vegetables are a scarcity. I have tried most of their Cajun items on the menu and think they generally lack flavor or would be worth mentioning/recommending. Food takes WAY too long unless it is pre-made (soups, grits, etc). The wait and service here is just dreadful. Walk-ins can be seated before those with reservations who have been waiting for 30 minutes PAST their arrival/res. Lots of empty tables while people wait in the sitting area (guess staff shortages still). We got seated 30 minutes past reservation, 15 minutes for staff to come by and offer water, another 30 for an appetizer and then 45 minutes after that for the main course. If we spent anymore time there I was worried we would be charged rent too. Staff is generally unremarkable as well. Not rude but almost in a state of just being present. Not helpful and they seem unable to handle more than 3 tables. Do yourself a favor, unless you just want to kill 2-3 hours for average food, go elsewhere. You can belly up to the 5 person crowded bar too but somehow even then it would still be slow service. read more
