Carter's My Plumber - Ground filled and leveled after completion

Carter's My Plumber

Joshua did a great job with the hot water heater flush. He explained about the anode rod and how…read moreyou can detect when it needs to be replaced by the "smell" of the water. He also tested the water softener by measuring the "grains" of hardness in the water. Quick & efficient. I've been using Carter's My Plumber in Greenwood since Jan 2023. They have been good for me.

Unfortunately, that's where the professionalism ended and the upselling began. Within minutes of looking at my system, the tech told me confidently that I "definitely" needed an entirely new well pump. Price tag? $5,000. No discussion of alternatives. No troubleshooting. No checking the simple, inexpensive components first. They skipped straight to the most extreme and most profitable recommendation. Thankfully, I trusted my instincts and got a second opinion. The truth? My pump was perfectly fine. I didn't need a $5,000 replacement. I didn't even need a $500 repair. Or even a $50 repair. The real issue was a simple electrical problem that the power company fixed for free!!! and at most I needed a basic pressure switch replacement--something this tech should have checked first. But it gets better (or worse, depending on how you look at it). After I declined the wildly unnecessary replacement, the technician began calling and texting me about how his assessment was 100% correct and to chew me out for a negative review. The pressure to approve the job or his bad assessment bordered on harassment. Completely unacceptable and wildly unprofessional. So here's my honest summary: If you want a company that diagnoses correctly, looks for honest solutions, or respects your boundaries, look elsewhere. My experience was a textbook example of why homeowners lose trust in service providers. Strongly do not recommend! Carter's definitely NOT my plumber.

On a Sunday. Before the 4th of July. With these stars aligned, I called Weilhammer Plumbing. He picked up his phone at home while hosting family and was cleaning up. Not only did he clearly explain the issue (not an emergency, even though my wallet wouldn't stop shrieking), he gave us instructions on what to do to avoid further leakage. He said he'd come by the day before his vacation, but if he couldn't get to us, he'd refer us out. Then we laid hands of the thing and made it 10x worse. I sent pictures as he asked and told him the situation. He called me immediately to walk us through fixing our mistake. He did not refer us out, he came the next morning. He was no nonsense, low maintenance, quick and honest. He quoted me over the phone, stayed below the top range of the quote and was kind enough to say, go ahead and call around. No, sir, you've already won my business. I did check with a neighbor but she had the work done almost 10 years ago. He did the job for the same price. Inflation who?! He was in and out in about 2 hours, no issues, explained the new system, replaced the heater and some other things that were destined to cause heartbreak and panic in the future. Can't recommend enough. Thank you!

With the freezing temperatures, we had a water line burst and flood our furnace. I called Chapman…read moreand they scheduled us for both repairs the same day. The furnace tech diagnosed the furnace as needing at least a new control board and couldn't be sure other parts weren't bad. The furnace was full of ice. Based on the price of the potential repairs, it made more sense to replace the furnace. The installers arrived first thing the next morning and we had heat around lunch time. Everyone from Chapman was clean, courteous and did great work. It wasn't cheap for any of this, but we feel that the prices were reasonable, especially since we were 100% done the very next day.

This time around, I've gotten the chance to try out Chapman to address some electrical issues in the house. Truthfully, I wasn't aware that Chapman handled electrical. I'd begun having some significant electrical issues a couple weeks before Thanksgiving. I called another company that I'd used for a smaller project with good results. They came over and did some minor adjustments, however, they noted there were significant issues and planned to send me an estimate. They did let me know this "fix" was more like a band-aid and the significant work was inevitable. It was less than a day when the "band-aid" stopped working. I waited a bit anticipating their estimate, though also disappointed that they'd done such a weak fix. Finally, things got WAY worse. It was shortly before Thanksgiving and the situation was urgent. I left a message for Chapman anticipating that I was likely out of luck for the holiday weekend. My general sense was that was their plan, too. However, I think the rep (I believe her name was Hannah) heard the panic in my voice and I explained my situation. She arranged for a technician to visit the house the next day. This tech did agree that the issue was serious and warranted a few major repairs. He explained it well and explained my options. To be honest, I'm usually quite cheap. However, when he gave me two options I went with the more expensive option as I really wanted to make sure the fix was done properly. I was tired of band-aids. They used my initial service call as a down payment and the electrician, Rodney as I recall, scheduled it and made sure he would be the electrician for the project (NOTE: In reality, this ended up being a 2-3 person job). The only slight hiccup was that I'd been told they'd arrive at 8am. In reality, I called them at 10am and learned they were having trouble finding one needed part. That was fine, though I should have been called. Around 11:15, and somewhat surprisingly, they arrived and dug in. Seven hours later? They were done. I was particularly touched by a neat gesture - I'm a wheelchair user. In their estimate, the electrician had written that he'd be putting my new panel in at wheelchair height. This wasn't something I asked for particularly, however, it was a pretty cool gesture recognizing my needs. Rodney explained everything and was entirely work focused. He completed the work as promised and the cost was exactly as quoted. He explained a couple other concerns - including one that wouldn't be a Chapman issue, however, he explained how it could impact the electric. I've now had Chapman work on my furnace and my electric. Are they more expensive? Yeah, I'd say so. If you're looking for a budget electrician, Chapman probably isn't that. However, in all three visits the work has been done and done well. They've avoided band-aids and actually fixed issues. Their quotes have been accurate. The employees have been professional. With the exception of today's tardiness, the experiences have all been impeccable. Truthfully, I should have likely called Chapman first. While I may not call them for smaller issues, the truth is for me it's worth a bit more to get the work done right. The work is warrantied and I now have a system that should last for years and is also accessible. That other company? I still don't have their estimate. Chapman wins.

I hired Roto-Rooter to clear a kitchen drain based on brand recognition. The technician did clear…read morethe drain quickly, but I am extremely upset by the fee. Being charged $438 to clear a single drain, especially after a "senior discount", is extraordinary and unjustifiable for a job that took only minutes. What's most troubling is the lack of pricing transparency. Had I been given even a general fee range when scheduling, I would not have agreed to schedule their plumber. I feel blindsided and taken advantage of. I will not use Roto-Rooter again and would strongly caution others to do their research before calling and ask detailed pricing questions before calling.

While I appreciate…read morethat the company has agreed to cover the cost of the new flooring, vanity, and faucet, I've been left with unresolved damage to both of my closet organizers -- damage that occurred during the service, not from the original water issue. Despite sharing photos and explaining the concerns in detail, the proposed solution has been to paint over cosmetic damage and patch the units rather than replace or properly restore them. I've been cooperative throughout this process and just want a fair resolution that reflects the condition of the items before they were handled. What's especially frustrating is that this unresolved issue is now delaying progress with my insurance claim. I've tried to address this directly and professionally with their team, but so far, there's been no acceptable path forward. I'm still hoping Roto-Rooter will step up and make this right -- and I'll gladly update this review if the issue is resolved. Until then, I'm sharing my experience so others know to be cautious and thorough when reviewing post-service damage.
