I love love looove that Prince Umbertos participates on the To Good to Go app! That's actually how I found them. Basically the apps partner with local restaurants to eliminate food waste. You purchase a surprise bag and show up in the hour/half hour before closing to pick up your surprise so the restaurant doesn't have to throw the food out. I got 4 slices of pizza and a rice ball. Not too bad for $4! And guess what? All delicious. I have a Sicilian slice when I got home and my family gobbled the rest of the goods the next day. I hope more restaurants get involved with the app, so happy to see some local spots. They were great at following covid protocols and really friendly. I don't remember my take out date. I remember ordering food for lunch while I was at work because it rained really bad and I do take a walk in most weather but tried to go outside and just couldn't. I didn't want to come back drenched and still having to work for a few hours with no change of clothes. I was impressed by the gluten free options it's exciting to have gluten free calzones and gluten free mozarella sticks on the menu. However when I got my food it was just okay. Pretty solid pizza. Good amount of specialty slices, calzones, stromboli and rolls in the display counter. Nothing to complain about but nothing out of this world either. Chicken vodka and chicken marsala slices were both good. Had the stromboli, chicken roll and sausage roll in the past and they were good as well. They have a tent set up outside to accommodate outdoor dining which seems like it takes up a fair amount of parking, but it was just too damn cold to sit outside. About two weeks ago my wife ordered over the phone a pie with half plain & half barbeque chicken pizza. The plain half was ok, but the barbeque chicken half had big chunks of dry chicken embedded in cheese and almost no BBQ sauce, making it pretty much tasteless. She also ordered 4 pints of gelato. The plastic cups in which gelato came were definitely smaller than a pint, and there was a lot of empty spaces inside between ice cream scoops. Today she called in and ordered a pie with half meatball & half pepperoni. There wasn't much meatball on the pie and the pizza looked like it was made without care. She also ordered 4 pints of gelato, and she told the girl who took her order about the fact that the last time gelato came in much smaller cups than a pint. Again, 3 out of 4 gelatos today were much less than a pint each. I feel that we're being ripped off here, being charged for a pint of gelato and getting much less than a pint. I went here after grabbing boba from swan crepes deciding that some pasta and pizza would be a fantastic addition to swap up my night. All in all, we ordered penne a la vodka with chicken cutlet, rigatoni with Alfredo sauce and shrimp, and baked ravioli with extra marinara. All parties involved, including the pickiest person of our group,was satisfied. We were able to have outdoor seating, and those heating lamps made SUCH a difference!!!! I came in on the late afternoon and stayed to the early evening, because I felt so welcomed,, this establishment has been owned and operated by the same family for nearly 50 years, they are the original owners,, and the food the weathers tasted the way that's prepared. It's almost like you were invited to somebody's house, and they are cooking in the kitchen,, Half of the restaurant has a pizzeria on one side, and the other side is the formal dining room with Bar,, It was a pleasant experience with Mary Jo.. she was fantastic. Service was great, her personality, very friendly, very warm, by the time the night was over, you feel like you've known her for 20 years, they have many locals that come to this establishment. Often, I had the pleasure of meeting Bruce who has been eating there for over 20 years,, all the food was delicious. there isn't anything I would change the food was very good, they even have traditional tripe, which a lot of restaurants don't have,, stop by eating here you feel like more that you're at someone's house as a guest, rather than eating at a restaurant,, The meatballs were absolutely juicy, tender a lot of taste, love the sausages,, I ordered stuffed peppers for an appetizer and I ate the whole thing,, The chicken cutlet all of vodka was fantastic, the sauce was creamy, With mushrooms and peas, really a meal within itself,, loved the tartufo ,, come by to this Franklin Square institution. Ambiance and wait staff: this place is the traditional pizzeria and Italian restaurant attached to it. You can order a few slices or sit down with wait service. They redid the restaurant portion fairly recently. We came and just ordered a few slices and sat in the pizzeria. This place is a mom and pop shop, everyone in there is always speaking Italian and grandma is always sitting in the back, I love it ! Food: we ordered the regular triangle, white slice, rice ball, garlic knots with sauce and a vodka slice. The white slice is amazing. Had big chunks of ricotta, so good! And their regular slice is very good too! The sauce isn't too sweet, it's really cheesy and delicious! The rice balls are good, just rice and cheese inside and crisp on the outside, very good! Prince Umberto Pizzeria & Restaurant 721 Franklin Ave, Franklin Square, NY 11010 Today 10/26/2023, I took my Honey for lunch for the first time to Prince Umberto's in Franklin Square, NY. We both love good home made Italian food. I read some nice reviews, checked out their menu online and saw items we both like to eat, so to not far away Franklin Square we went! It was about 2;30 pm when we got there, the pizzeria side was busy but the dinning area side was wasn't busy at all, and that's exactly where we wanted to go. Our waiter and server Johnathan greeted us and sat us at a nice comfortable table. I ordered something for my Honey and I to drink, nothing with alcohol, while we looked over the menu. I told Johnathan we were going to first try a few appetizers, and after that, if we were still hungry we would order something else. I asked Johnathan, please, DO NOT bring us all the food at once, as so many other restaurants seem to want to do! All that food at once just overwhelms you, plus sitting there, the food just gets cold before you get to eat it. Johnathan said, not a problem, tell me what to bring you, and I will bring it when you tell me, YES! We started off first with Littleneck Clams on the half shell, then we had whole backed clams that were just made, nice and piping hot, and so, so, delicious. Next we enjoyed a nice size pot of mussels cooked with white wine and garlic, Johnathan brought us their just baked HOT pizza dough bread with butter on the side, it was excellent especially when we were dunking the bread into the mussel juice! After that my Honey and I had to try their Trippa Napoletana, we both love tripe! This tripe with the sauce made at Prince Umberto's was so good, my Honey had to take some home! It had no potatoes, no peas, just tender cooked tripe in a delicious mild sauce, which I was also enjoying on the hot pizza dough bread too. Just delicious. Wow! While were eating, the owner, and the chef came over to us a couple of times to ask if everything was okay and to our liking, and if we needed anything else, which was very nice of them to do. We now were both pretty full, but I had to check out their dessert menu first, before we left. I spotted their Italian ice cream Tartufo, and my Honey spotted the Tiramisu. We suddenly found a little space to tackle dessert, OMG! They both were so yummy! Now as far as prices go in this day and age of high prices, this restaurant has very, very, fair prices for quality fresh food! And I might add, this is one of the very few restaurants that is not charging any extra fee for using your credit card, I hope they can continue doing that, we shall see? We shall return for sure. Their food was so good, and freshly cooked to order, just as if we were home, it was a delight to go to Prince Umberto's in Franklin Square today! Johnathan did an excellent job taking good care of us. And if I am going write an honest review, which I am, I have one wish, we both love clams on the half shell, ice cold. The clams on the half shell we had today were really fresh, but they were room temperature and not cold at all? I wish they can serve them ice cold, the next time we come. All in all, Prince Umberto's still gets 5 stars! One tip for all, go for lunch or early dinner, You will have plenty of space in their dining room! read more

Tonight, the mister decided he wanted some Italian and a specific snail dish...ok-i gave in and we ordered! Disappointed and grossed out is an understatement. My order of shrimp scampi come without pasta, when i called back to state the latter, the young lady was nice enough to acknowledge and advise that a pasta would be coming my way....ok-fair enough..then not even 5 min later i receive a call back that basically implied that the pasta was in the dish, at the bottom and i was either an idiot or a liar...then i gently corrected them and said, no, i was talking about the scampi dish....ohhhh ok!! Really??? So my first call was not expressive enough? Mind you, i was pretty courteous since my mamma raised me right, but the mister was not pleased. We finally received the pasta and we are famished...we open our dishes and....well, the pictures will give you an idea...everything was steeped in so much oil/butter...we were famished so we ate...the pasta was overcooked and the shrimp undercooked..not a great combo! I don't brake paleo for terrible food and i will forever regret this order...we will not do this again.
