The coffee is great and so is the food but the service is atrocious. The atmosphere and garden are nice. They allow dogs in the coffee shop and back patio, health code violation but not really my issue. Don't stop in to get your coffee before work here you will crazy late for your job. The communication system between the staff is abysmal, i have been grossly overcharged for pastries more times than I care to count. The baristas will forget your drink, you have to manage them. I know the owner (who is not American and could give two fucks about quality service) and am still treated like a second class customer at this establishment. If they weren't the closest place to me I would NEVER patronize them again. read more

Winter update: turns out the hot coffee (i.e. "coffee") is excellent too (see my previous review, if you care.)A cut above most of the coffee joints in the area, with the potential exception of Luv Tea (although that takes 5 minutes to get a cup.) It's a cute space that is 1 block from my apartment with a great patio to work on. The croissants are delicious. But other than that it is slightly pricy for what you get and when I was there with my boyfriend ordering breakfast we waited over 30 min for a parfait and ham/cheese croissant. I'm writing this in hopes to discourage anyone else from waisting their money in this establishment, go to Annex on Fultonit is a bit of a walk but so much better! The last time I went to Primrose i got to the door with my latte which was SO HOT, that when i spilled a tiny bit on my wrist I got a horrible burn that didn't heal for over a week. When I went back to inform them that perhaps they shouldn't make the coffee so hot, they didn't seem at all bothered :( Not my neighborhood coffee shop, the service is terrible, they have no community vibe, don't waist your time and money! read more

This review is for the food. Staff here are generally super friendly and the coffee is typically good. But $10 for 1 slice of toast and maybe 1/4 of an avocado?! I used to come here for their salami bites (salami, cornichons, butter and swiss on a really nice baguette). After having not visited in a long while, I tried ordering that same simple but delicious sandwich I fell in love with when primrose first opened and was served a deli roll and processed cheese and at an increased price. Huh?! At one point they started serving wine and beer but stopped because, as one employee put it, they "forgot to renew their license". Again, huh? I'm so confused. Something's obviously off. I would definitely disagree with the previous reviewer. I adore Primrose and it is my go to morning spot. The mocha's in particular are my huge weakness(homemade chocolate, hello yum!). The girl at the counter( with the red hair who the previous reviewer appeared to be less then taken with) is always so charming and nice, and knows my order the second I walk through the door and does not hesitate to have pleasant conversation with me. This place is super cute and I really enjoyed my almond latte and the chai I tried. There are plenty of seats and they have two outdoor spaces. One in the front, one in the back. The baristas were nice. It has a lived in feel. There is also free interest! There is a large food menu but I can't speak to it. $7 credit card minimum but one time I didn't have cash and they didn't give me a hard time. My only complaint is they are a little slow. read more

I've been to Primrose a number of times now and felt compelled to write a review. I really wanted to like this place because the space is lovely and it's right near my apartment. However I think there are a number of problems with the service & set up. Re: food. The last time I was here, they were out of everything-- bread, avocado, bagels, etc. This time they had all the ingredients so I was hopeful it would be a smoother experience. I ordered the TLV breakfast, which comes with eggs, toast, and a choice of other things (avocado, cheese, ham, or jam). The person who took my order didn't ask what I wanted on the plate. When it came out with ham and cheese (the 2 options I did not want, to be honest), I asked for the avocado instead. The busboy who brought the avocado for me was pretty nice about it but then informed me that unless the customer specifies otherwise, they'll bring you the ham and cheese for this plate. Why not ask the customer what they want when they order, instead of making that assumption? It didn't make any sense to me and I think in general reflects the lack of interest in the customer's experience here. Re: the wifi. You can ask for a code in order to connect (for 2 hours on weekdays or 1 hour on weekends) and they hand you a little slip of paper with a code on it. Mine didn't work; nor did the girl who was working next to me. I think it's very stingy to allow only 1 hour of wifi access in the first place, but if you're going to do that, it should be working. Overall I think this would be a fine place to get a coffee (not food) and talk with someone but I wouldn't frequent it for other purposes. Next time I plan to work on my laptop and get breakfast on a weekend I'll probably walk the extra 20 minutes to Stonefruit in BedStuy. read more

Primrose is a great addition to Greene Ave. It is a good place to meet up with a friend for some great coffee and delicious pastries (haven't yet tried the sandwiches, but they look amazing) or a place to go and get work done. The owners/staff have been so nice and informative. The atmosphere is definitely still a work in process, as it only opened a little while ago, but what is there is very inviting and it has amazing potential to be a very special place, especially when then garden opens in the back. i highly recommend going to support this neighborhood gem. Despite the awful reviews that I read came here with my friend because we wanted to check out Brooklyn flea and this was the closest coffeeshop. The backyard was actually very nice and they are okay sitting space. The cold brew was pretty good. They are ants hanging out around the sitting area in the backyard and I got bitten which make the experience quite memorable. Worth checking out though don't know if I would come back read more

A lovely place, good coffee, food and service. Prices aren't too too bad. I go there to work pretty often, but their wifi is pretty awful. The furniture is also not very good, and I'm always nervous that my table will take my laptop and coffee with it to the floor. Still a nice chill place. If you do have to go (Because it's so damn cute!) Avoid around 4:00 when the line is long, space is crammed, and there 10 kids running around at your feet. I have been coming to Primrose since it opened. I really love the location (around the corner from my apt) and near the bus stop! The cafe itself is very unique, being in a brownstone and all. I really like the selection, but unfortunately they seem to run out of items by lunch. This makes me sad because there are sandwiches and such that I would order more regularly if the stock of bread or bagels were there. :( Recently I have noticed that there are some new employees, which is good. There have been some real grumpy people working there in the past. There is a guy who is a cook there who draws on the cups, he is always very friendly, pleasant and accommodating (and handsome). Not to mention his terrific art! He is a joy to see when I come in for my morning coffee and breakfast. This place is improving. read more

Delicious coffee, an inviting, intimate space that's perfect for studying, reading, or quality conversation, and above all a fabulous staff committed to being a community space and producing quality goods and interactions. Recently decided to stop back in for a bite to eat in a Saturday -- was told there was no more food as sandwich service stopped at 4:45 (it was 4:49) and they had "already started putting the bread away." If I can give negative stars I would. I would usually take an extra 10 minute walk and go to a different establishment for my coffee and bagel needs. But hey, I was thinking this place looks cute and Its only 1.5 blocks away from me so why not. Big mistake! Went in for a toasted bagel and guess what, it took them a whole 13 minutes!! And my bagel was not cut when he put it in the toaster. Asked the barista to cut my bagel and he just used his hand that he was doing whatever with and cut the bagel with his bared hands. Come on!! You're in food service, don't do that when your customers can see it. And the most of it, it cost me 3 smacking dollars for that damn bagel. read more

The staff behind the counter are incredibly snobby and rude. As cute as it is inside, the people who work in there (other than the actual chefs) are atrocious. I live UPSTAIRS and every single time I have come inside I have never been greeted kindly. I once ordered the Nova Scotia bagel and received a $11.75 bagel with two microscopic pieces of fish. They don't "do" pick up either, even if you are a regular customer for the past 7 months...and the wait time for ANY food order at ANY TIME weekday or weekend takes an average of 15 minutes. (THATS A LONG TIME for a bagel with cream cheese). The staff look miserable, always frowning, never in a good mood. I have a photo of the salmon bagel if anyone is interested please message me. The place inside is sweet but they forbid laptops on weekends 8-4pm...what kind of café is this!?
