This was good. A lot of meat I think when you select different meats they give you the same amount of each selection. Yikes! You need a gogo gadget mouth to get a full bite in. I had to remake it myself.. I legit could've made like 3other hoagies with the meat! Still will choose Primo for my go to for hoagies

I am a sandwich person and have been eager to try Primo's since I became aware of its existence. It is a little out of my way, but a good sandwich is worth a bit of a drive. I had the Nonna's Veggie medium-size sandwich (9" long ) and it was amazing. Broccoli Rabe? Yes please. Sharp provolone and roasted red peppers? Yes to that as well... I even liked the eggplant cutlet. The bread was neither too hard nor too soft, and the sesame seeds on it were very much appreciated (there is an unseeded option too, but why would you do that?). The sandwich was filled to the brim with all the ingredients, and it was so much food I had to make two meals of it. I also tried the Primos branded Italian potato chips but I didn't really like the flavor. As a pescetarian, I really appreciated the veggie options on Primo's menu and I can't wait to try more sandwiches. The staff at this location were also very nice when they took my order and even showed me the different bread sizes.

This place is a joke and kind of a scam. They layer their sandwiches as if they are layering a hot dog. They put a bunch of meat in the middle of the bread and then they add the toppings on top. So when you're taking a bite, you're either biting into toppings or a bunch of meat. They do this because they are trying to hide the fact that they are using mini bread as if they purchased them in the supermarket and not regular hero bread as if you were getting it from your local corner store. Take a look at the bread compared to my two fingers. This place sucks. I hope people see this review and avoid this place because this sandwich pissed me off.

The sandwiches are generally good, however, 1. The price point is high for what you get 2. They do not cut the sandwich unless you remember to ask 3. They don't offer the wrap unless you remember to ask 4. The sandwiches are put together sloppy 5. The bread is so hard Otherwise, the store was clean, and associates were pleasant. I enjoy this place better when it's DoorDash delivery.

You'll need a bib to eat here. They are overpriced. The quality of meats and bread is good. I don't like the way they cut the sub roll. Veggies were good. They put too much of everything in the sandwich. Mine could have fed three people. The service was good. Great selection of chips. Lots of options for a side if you don't eat crisps. I might try them again.

I experience good customer service during my visit; an employee is willing to be accommodating and attentive to my order, Nonna's Veggies (without cheese). I like the Eggplant's crispy bread texture, Broccoli Rabe is so good (on its own, in a different context), and Roasted Peppers can offer a good flavor and texture. Yet, with all these enjoyable ingredients, it's difficult to find flavor beyond the Olive Oil which I have to let drip out into mini-puddles. Due to being on a time constraint, I don't take an employee's offer to remake the meal with less or no Olive Oil (thanks for offering!). The establishment takes multiple forms of payment.

Stopped here for a quick bite before hitting the road. The staff was nice and friendly and people were in the outside seating area laughing and enjoying their food. I got a primo ham and cheese with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, oil and vinegar, salt, pepper and spicy mustard. Over all this sandwich was good and it reminded me of a Blimpies sandwich, which is my favorite all time place. They also have olives, dirty pudding and other items available for purchasing. They have their own brand of chips too. It would have been a five, but the Italian bread was a little on the hard side as compared to other Italian breads that I've had before.

Roll cut all the way through, ingredients stacked such that every bite can get every ingredient, and in the proper proportions.
    Dan O.

Good quality sandwich, but put together sloppy - specifically, the guy who made mine treated it like a hot dog by cutting the bread into a v-shape, like a hot dog roll, and then filling up the ingredients one on top of the other across the whole open V-shape. With this design, if you want to get your toppings in the same bite as your filling, you either need to eat it open end up, like a hot dog, or only bite from the open side. And even. Then, you're getting the wrong proportions - one side has more bread and meat with nearly no toppings, the other has mostly toppings with less bread & meat. open top of sandwich BMTMB BMMB BB closed bottom of sandwich Vs BBBBBBB TTTTTTTT MMMMM BBBBBBB (B: bread, M:meat, T:topping) You can actually see this in all the pictures on the reviews here - compare those pictures to what the online menu shows, and it isn't a quality difference, but an arrangement difference. I see that Primo responds and is trying to use these criticisms constructively. It will be interesting to see if the change I'm talking about actually takes place. Date of this review is 12/12/2022. If you're getting a sandwich 12/13/2022 or later, a picture will show how effectively Primo has converted criticism into a staff training opportunity. Pics below from website with my own sandwich, probably the 3rd or 4th I've had.

We were seated in the back area as there was about 8 to 10 of us. The well drinks (tito, margarita, etc) were priced at $10 and appetizers priced at the same. I ordered a lemon drop martini to drink, grilled oysters and steak crostini to eat. My grilled oysters were okay, except for one that has some "crunch"...lol to it. My steak was medium and cooked as ordered. But the show stopper was definitely the lemon drop martini, it was a good strong. So I ordered a second. Also there is a parking lot, and they were offering valet when we went. I enjoyed the food I had as an entree (steak frites). What I didn't like was our waiter was constantly trying to up charge us. He kept asking if we wanted to add specific things to all our orders and even if we said no, he still insisted on it. This even occurred with shots of alcohol. I explicitly said I was driving and didn't want it and still shots were brought out with out us even asking. We thought maybe he was being very nice. Or maybe something was included we didn't know about ( what was added were things like a Caesar salad, Brussel sprouts, and sweet potato fries so it easy to see how we didn't see it was things out of the ordinary included as sides for meals) or we were for some reason getting something comped, but that was not the case. Our bill was ASTRONOMICAL. If we didn't have these items we didn't want added on, it would have been fine but this type of way of doing business makes me never want to go back. We considered fighting the bill, but we did eat the food because at the time we thought it was either included or comped. Please be aware of this if you visit this restaurant, and if you are insisted upon adding things to your order learn from our mistake and ask more questions if it's included or make sure you explicitly say NO.

Larry was very accommodating, and helped compose a vegan dish from the setup of another dish. He was considerate to recommend something that would feel "substantial" - something that I really appreciated. It's already a bit inconvenient to come up with a dish on the spot, but to go the extra mile by caring that it would be satisfying as a main dish was really very kind. And it turned out fantastic. This restaurant has so much going for it in the quality of its ingredients and dish compositions. I would encourage the chef to consider how the can apply their creativity to a dedicated vegan dish as well. The restaurant was packed when we arrived, with both indoor and outdoor dining, but they were expecting us for our reservation and seated us right away. The front-of-house staff was warm, friendly and even remembered my husband from when he called to make the reservation. The food was the standout. I ordered the short rib, which arrived with quite the presentation, a huge bone topped with incredibly tender, shaved short rib and mixed vegetables. It was delicious and the portion was enormous. I shared some with my husband at dinner, took the rest home, and we still managed to turn the leftovers into an omelet a couple of days later! My husband ordered the double-thick pork chop and loved it. We also shared the fried shrimp and calamari appetizer, and both the marinara and aioli were excellent. One small area for improvement would be helping the younger waitstaff become a little more comfortable guiding guests through the menu. When we asked for recommendations and what dishes the restaurant was especially known for, it took a little prompting before we got to Parmigiano. Our server was perfectly nice. It just would have elevated the experience to have someone confidently say, "This is what we do exceptionally well, and here's what I recommend." Overall, though, we had exactly the kind of evening we needed. We brought a bottle of wine, relaxed, talked, enjoyed the atmosphere and genuinely felt like we had gotten away for a while. Our bill came in at the $100 range, and we left completely satisfied. Great food, generous portions, a welcoming atmosphere and excellent value. We'll absolutely return.

The Carciofi alla Giudia, the classic Jewish-Roman deep fried artichokes were beautifully presented. A good bit firmer than you'd find in Rome but were still well enjoyed and recommended. Tonno salad with fresh seared tuna was plentiful and packed with flavor. Speaking of flavor the porchetta sandwich was rich and delicious. Really this is closer to a bbq pork than authentic porchetta but still recommended. The star of the show is the chicken parm and eggplant parm. The eggplant was delicate, thinly sliced melt in your mouth. Luckily you get a huge plate. Chicken parm is also excellent and HUGE. While there is $10 plate fee if sharing a main they are fine if you order several items and share all. Very generous with their shaved Parmesan if requested. Prices on the higher side but not all that bad considering the quantity. This feels more like the type of place you come to with a large group than as a couple. Unless of course you are very hungry. We arrived at 6:35 p.m. and chose to sit on the Terrazza so we could enjoy the live band. Unfortunately, the service was incredibly slow from the start. It took about 15 minutes before our waitress came to take our drink order, and another 15 minutes before our drinks arrived. We were enjoying the music, so we didn't mind waiting at first. We understood that restaurants get busy and were happy to be patient. Our order wasn't anything complicated. We ordered a salad and a sandwich, which made the wait even more surprising. We had tickets to an 8:15 movie, so around 7:30 we started getting concerned that our food still hadn't arrived. Even then, we didn't complain. At 8:00 p.m., we simply flagged down our waitress, explained that we had to leave, and politely asked her to cancel the remainder of our order. She apologized, took my credit card, and said she would take care of it. While we were waiting, we saw at least two other tables cancel their orders and ask for their checks after experiencing similar delays. About an hour and a half after we had been seated, our food finally arrived, even though we had already canceled it. We told the servers we no longer wanted it. By then, another 15 minutes had passed since we had given the waitress our credit card, yet we still hadn't received our check. We finally walked over to the bar to ask what was going on. That's when we learned our waitress had been holding onto our check so she could add the food to it. We explained, again, that we had canceled the order before it was ever served and would not be paying for meals we never received. Instead of understanding why we were frustrated after waiting over 90 minutes, she responded with attitude, which was honestly the most disappointing part of the evening. The manager overheard the conversation, apologized for the delay, but that was the extent of it. No offer to comp our drinks or appetizer, no attempt to make up for the experience, and no acknowledgment that we had spent over an hour and a half at the restaurant and left without the meal we came for. During that entire time, we received one round of drinks and an appetizer. No one offered another round of drinks, or provided any meaningful updates about our food. I understand that restaurants have difficult nights, and if the only issue had been a long wait, I probably wouldn't be writing this review. What made this experience so disappointing was how it was handled. We were patient from the moment we sat down, and simply asked to cancel our order because we had another commitment. After all of that, being met with attitude for refusing to pay for food that arrived only after we had canceled it, and seeing no real effort from the restaurant to make things right left us feeling like our experience simply didn't matter. We were genuinely excited to find a new local restaurant after moving to South Orange. Instead, our first visit was so disappointing that it will also be our last.

On a prior visit with a larger party we had a Cakebread Cab that was slightly more than $100. They have wines by the glass too, as well as several interesting cocktails too including a Macha Tea one. The service is always pleasant and accommodating. The host/owner when present is likewise. This night we had two appetizers. These were the fried calamari and the shrimp tempura. Both are favorites that we have had on every one of our three visits. Both are reasonably sized and really good. The shrimp tempura is pretty spicy, so just be aware. The mains were a filet mignon, the bacon-wrapped filet mignon, and a lobster tail. The bacon-wrapped filet comes with sides of steamed veggies and scalloped potatoes. The other filet came with a few thinly shredded onion rings, which are unlike the regular side order. The tail did not have a side, but the creamed spinach, which is loaded with meat too (believed to be bacon and prosciutto) and is terrific, was ordered. This just represents a small sampling of the menu. There are several different cuts and sizes of steaks and many sides and appetizers from which to choose. There are also several children's offerings. All in all it's pretty darn good. It's not the best place we've ever dined, but it is very good and when considering the offerings, the service, and the value, it's a "family" 5-star experience.

It has been quite a few years since I last visited and was pleasantly surprised by the upgrades to the place. Initially, we were shunted off to a side table and had to ask for a window one, which we were reluctantly given (there were many open ones). The wait staff was pleasant enough (the water and bread service being the best), and we proceeded to order drinks. This is where the issues started. They grouped sparkling wines with roses, which made me think I was ordering a sparkling one when I wasn't. No biggie, but they should change that; I can't be the first or last to make this error. Now to the food. We were very excited to order the tomato & stone fruit salad, and very disappointed when what we got was a tomato salad with three (very thin) peach slices (at least I think they were; not very tasty, so I could not tell). One strike, so I was hoping for better luck with my entrée. That was not much better. I ordered the lobster ravioli, which came with a dense sauce and pasty ravioli, and an overcooked lobster claw buried in it. Not what I expected from a 5-star place. My wife's sashimi was much better, even if her double order of Hamachi was strange. We were not charged for that, and she was given a new choice. The dessert menu listed bread pudding with a 30-minute prep time, but if the staff did not inform you earlier, it's not really a choice, so I ordered the cheesecake, which was acceptable but poorly plated, with not enough fruit or sauce. I see that all the 5 stars are from people who call themselves foodies. I have real reservations about any of them having real five-star food outside of NJ; they should consider trying Manhattan to get an education. In the end, the view is the best part of the place (must give the hard-working staff credit for a nice evening). Will I be back? Probably not for another ten years. (it will not let me upload photos)
